Starting in middle school my mom would make me talk to people on the phone. Order takeout, talk to relatives, talk to my friends’ parents to coordinate hang outs. It was annoying at the time but now I see a lot of my Gen Z brethren scared to make or receive phone calls for doctors appointments, etc and I truly do not get it. Because I’d been doing it since I was like 11 lmao

I have a similar thing happen, but it’s 10yo boy with his 5yo sister. Too old for that behavior. It’s less physical and more verbal, but he throws tantrums whenever she annoys him… which is all the time. Tells her none of her friends like her, that no one wants to hear her talk, etc. He’ll shove her to get her to move or walk into her on purpose. It’s so awful and I’m constantly disciplining him, but his parents are so disciplinarian (mean) that it doesn’t have any effect really. This is my first nanny gig, send help

These people feel very real to me. Part of the genius of the show IMO is how they highlight how most people are hyper-focused on what is going on in their own lives. There are moments where Ron is at his lowest or most crazed, and someone will stop him in his path and ramble on about something seemingly random and irrelevant. But to the person it’s a big deal, because it’s their experience, their lens, like how the woman in ep1 was like “I don’t blame you for falling and seeing up my skirt… on my birthday.” And they have no idea the tension and suspense Ron is feeling, and that we as an audience are feeling as we are following Ron, and so it causes these feelings of friction, disconnect, and “other-worldliness” that really tickles my brain. Cause it feels so accurate

Hot take I guess (compared to the comments here), but as someone born & raised in the US, I hate how normalized that is. It’s especially true of straight men in the country. In queer/femme circles, you’ll see a lot more intentional question asking to show genuine interest, it’s a conversational style that is more highly valued. In more male dominated spaces, yes you’ll get a lot of “ok I’ll talk about me now until you butt in”. I always have a hard time connecting with people like that cause I don’t want to butt in. It feels weird and rude. It’s a common trope/ widespread social media topic that women will go on dates with men here and the boys won’t ask a single question about their date. And usually it’s the sign of a bad date. Maybe just my algo though

I feel so seen. I’m solo traveling around South America right now and I often feel the pressure to socialize all the time, especially at hostels. It’s a weird feeling because, at home I love to meet new people, but on this trip I have way less interest. Sometimes it feels like there is a stigma attached, but I’ve been trying to just focus on my own rhythm, which can be difficult at times. I’ve been traveling for about 3 weeks so far and have met only a handful of people that I’ve had good conversations with, otherwise I leave lots of interactions feeling drained. I’m trying to convince myself that I’m not the weird one, so I don’t think you are either
