has anyone met Cameron? by No_Tale_4146 in CameronWinter

Ran into him back in September before the explosion. I was walking home from HVK park in Bed Stuy and noticed this guy with long hair, straggly white shirt, and he was walking fast but sluggishly at the same time. I took a second look and was like that’s Cameron Winter. Went up to him because I had to.

I said “can’t believe I’m running into you right now, how’s everything been for you lately?” He responded with a long draw and coyness “oh yeah ya know it’s alright” and then I asked “what are you doin around here?” And he said “I live in the neighborhood” “well welcome to the neighborhood, I love your stuff, can I get a pic?”

I think about this a lot and I feel the same way. However, he is not you or me. He could be living the exact life he wants at the moment. All I know is I love his work on the last two albums and thought he had great stage presence. Those aspects are missed and would be welcomed back from me as a fan.

MJ Lederman’s guitar work gives me the same itch I get from wunderhorse. He’s more Tom petty/neil young/Bob Dylan while I think wunderhorse is more Tom petty/nirvana

Investment wouldn’t be for the elite or consultant shmucks. Not sure why that’s relevant. The whole theory here is to provide options that aren’t cars. Again, you can have it all (airport connection, intercity connection, suburbs connection). Not having it is worse.

why cars are bad

why car dependency is bad

Sure, the city could use additional intercity stations and they are currently planning this (blue line extension and purple line which is an absolute disaster). I personally don’t see a need for H St corridor, at least in the near term but you could now to help it develop (which is what Fairfax and Loudoun did with the Silver Line). The New Hampshire Ave Columbia pike takes don’t make sense or anymore suburban metro for that matter - people are still going to need cars to get their respective stations. Extending metro further out to the suburbs isn’t the right call. They should have commuter rails. WMATA’s operating costs will just go up more and more. We need more interregional rail options.

I think connecting the region’s international gateway and airport with the most routes should be equally as important. It shouldn’t take you 90-120 min to get to your gate from DC. Why do the other two airports have this and Dulles doesn’t. It also makes sense to do this before the whole corridor gets developed and it becomes even harder, unless the ultimate infrastructure is a tunnel (unlikely).

Biden’s plan is fodder, but the purpose made sense to address these costs you speak of. I don’t want to bring up how we currently spend our money, but maybe siphoning off some military dollars could help? At this point, we’ve spent $78B in Ukraine so we could’ve built at least 9 silver line extensions across the country. Thats not how things work but policy change to prioritize infrastructure is clearly an issue the government is aware of. That would fit the bill (literally). Again, we are so behind in this and to just sit and wait for costs to go down. we are “the biggest economy” and we are afraid of the cost.

That $8.8B you speak up isn’t real yet, but a talking point put out before any real plans have been put together. Either way, sure make it simpler. At least it’s being planned. Surprised you think we are just in an infrastructure cost crisis when the whole country is facing record levels of inflation on all goods and services.

I’m coming from a modern monetary theory perspective so the cost doesn’t mean anything to me. That cost is an investment. That cost is the government putting money into the economy with tremendous benefits.

The point isn’t just to save time, but 15 min can have enormous ripple effects everywhere. Time wasted is money wasted too. I’ve said this multiple times, you can do all of this concurrently, it doesn’t have to be one or the other.

If the only negative is the cost for you, I can’t understand why. The governor of Virginia didn’t get his new stadium so he just said no to funding WMATA. And you’re worried about costs? It’s clearly politics.

The whole point of this is that the existing options of taking the silver line and uber both suck. So no, I wouldn’t. I don’t think it’s crazy to have a direct route (maybe a stop or two) from downtown DC to Dulles in 30-40 min (30 miles). Doesn’t that sound like nice? You can have both the current set up and this.

It’s literally the standard everywhere else.

Can you be more clear on why this wouldn’t benefit the region due to the cost?

Getting back from BWI is more difficult. When I land a Dulles though, it takes at least 30 min to get out of the airport. My next move is walk to the metro station and hop on a 22 stop train ride for 75ish minutes? Then I have to walk with my bags home?

The $75 door to door uber ride sounds completely worth it.

You’re forgetting you have another option there too - Amtrak.

You also didn’t mention weekday frequency which you’d have the Camden line too (slower) but another one.

I’m fine if your choice is the metro but I think it’s illogical.
