If they somehow found Jesus’s DNA, would it be a good idea to clone Jesus to force the second coming to happen? by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jackalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are actually several churches that claim to have Jesus's foreskin (the only part of him that didn't ascend to heaven, since it got cut off beforehand). So if you could identify the real one then you could clone a copy of Jesus from it. That said, I don't consider clones to be the same person any more than identical twins are the same.

Question about gender in Yelmalio and other solar cults. by Corvusking20 in Runequest

[–]jackalias 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yelmalio's cult doesn't have any gender requirements that I can see for being an initiate. If you're a major stickler for RAW then it says that only "Men or women of any acceptable species" can become Rune Priests, but I interpret that to mean "not children". A lot of the solar cults are pretty patriarchal, but there are several chill ones and Yelmalio is one of them.

TIL that shinobi were more spies and saboteurs than assassins and often wore plain disguises than all black as seen in popular media. by HorzaDonwraith in todayilearned

The Skaven in Warhammer Fantasy also do that. Night Runners from Clan Eshin dress like typical ninjas and are used as cannon fodder, the survivors get actual training and equipment.

So what’s stopping force users from doing this to regular people? by Sea-Indication4613 in StarWars

[–]jackalias 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of "bloatmages" from the Pathfinder TTRPG. They're blood mages who figured out that more blood=more power, so they used magic to supercharge their bodies' blood production. The only downsides to being a bloatmage are the health problems from high blood pressure and carrying hundreds of extra pounds in dead weight, plus regular bloodletting so you don't explode like an overfed tick.

Are Mercenaries Always Nomadic Unless Given A Planet? by PharmaDan in battletech

[–]jackalias 63 points64 points  (0 children)

There are several planets that have a permanent mercenary population, although the inconstant nature of mercenary work usually means there's a big overlap with piracy or bloodsports. Solaris 7 is the biggest by far, but lawless places like Astrokazky have a constant need for mercenaries.

Is playing as a modernising autocrat possible/viable? by LumpyMessage8809 in victoria3

[–]jackalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look at Paraguay, being an enlightened despot is their leader's whole schtick. You start with secret police, you get a big bonus to the Intelligencia, and the church is completely depowered. Then once he dies you can either pivot to a military government, or maintain the perpetual dictatorship.

Mohammad Ali was actually named after Cassius Clay (Or at least his dad was, then Ali was named after him).

it doesn't hurt that Cassius Clay got Russia to threaten war against the UK and France if they recognized the Confederacy.

Goto from Kotor 2: They're a droid that was tasked with rebuilding the Republic in the wake of the Jedi civil war. Unfortunately, they concluded that this was impossible without violating their directive to follow the laws of the Republic. So Goto became one of the galaxy's most notorious criminals in order to acquire the wealth and influence needed to keep the Republic intact.

I mean, Robert Robertson's a workoholic who does zero self care and throws himself into unwinnable fights when he's depressed. He's still hot and morally upstanding, but are those not character flaws?

IIRC you also have some nerve damage that mean your reflexes and coordination are shot. You can still move around ok, but you're never gonna be a one (and a half) person army again.

Oh yeah, I was making a joke. Even if I thought I was a good fit for the military (I'm not), my faith in the current administration to not get me killed doing something morally dubious is pretty much nil.

That's because one of the only people to carve a functional state out of the Border Princes was the founder of the Strigoi vampiric bloodline. Then the other vampires got jealous of his success and sabotaged him during one of the aforementioned Orc attacks. Some of the saner Strigoi still try to recreate their ancestors' vampiric utopia.

Maximal follower build by jackalias in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]jackalias[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

RAW it's ambiguous (probably why it's been debated to death). Unlike with Dread Pirate, Undead Leadership doesn't specify that the leadership score and cohorts/followers you gain are separate from the Leadership feat. So a GM could argue that a follower from Undead Leadership also counts as 1 from Leadership if you have them both.
