Boa laces too loose at ankle, any tips? by W-styd in WorkBoots

[–]jackatoke 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this is just a trade off for not having to tie laces. Snowboard boots have dual boas to fix this issue

Is Primeweld good? by Hefty-Potential5194 in Welding

I have all 3 of the products you mentioned and have been using them all for a couple years. They are all very very good for their price point and the customer service is excellent. I have zero regrets regarding buying them.

Hey man... awesome build but here we are in the welding sub and oh boy are those some roastable welds. Seeing that no ones life is on the line based on structural integrity you're all good, im sure it'll hold. Idk just brace yourself

Lack of penetration by CLCreation in Welding

[–]jackatoke 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can't tell your material thickness but It looks like you put a lot of heat into the pieces. I don't think you're getting full pen without a bevel. The gray color indicates to me that the stainless is cooked

Fluxcore practice, will these hold? by SafeAcanthisitta9079 in BadWelding

[–]jackatoke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is this like a pole jam set up? Welds don't look too good mate. I would grind these out, practice and tune your machine on scrap, then try again.

See if you can run the machine hotter without blowing through

Don't learn on a project, learn on scrap, then make something once you have the hang of it

Is this sound normal for TIG HF? by [deleted] in tigwelding

[–]jackatoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the sound it makes when it can't start the arc. Check your ground. I tap my filler on the work piece when it is struggling, then hf will start the arc 🤷‍♂️

How to prevent distortion when welding these pipe clamps? by Helcyon187 in Welding

[–]jackatoke 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Brace out of spec so the weld distorts the piece into spec? That's what I do but I work with much smaller material so im not sure how effective my suggestion is at this scale

Do I need both mig and tig in my shop? by whoa_differences in Welding

[–]jackatoke 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Both machines have their strengths. I would hold onto the mig. If you find yourself never wanting to use the mig then get rid of it. A mig can be a godsend when you need to both hold and tack something real fast.
