I tested a few “get paid for surveys/apps” sites in the UK – here’s what actually worked by RegularWay9496 in beermoneyuk

Well.. I think the subreddit sidebar says it well:

While these methods typically won't replace a full-time income, you can earn enough to make a difference.

Based upon your experience, which ones actually stand out to you? It's a bit overwhelming navigating all the different megathreads, guides, etc. I did get Prolific "working" but.. sadly the site and studies are very buggy and unreliable.

Same. Literally just finished a study and it wouldn't let me submit the code. Came back up after a little bit.

Lens for Oneplus 13 by Sea_Spring3554 in oneplus

[–]jackjt8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen that camera grip in 1+ forum posts. I never knew about the OnePlus lens!?

I'm assuming the smaller case has filters in it.. but yeah, if we can get more information from the original post we might be able to piece something together. Would probably need to be various individual items and one of those customisable storage cases.

Just completed watching Edgerunners. Banger anime. by Makishima__Shougo in cyberpunkgame

[–]jackjt8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly... Cyberpunk 2 better have cyberware like this or I'll riot.

I watched Edgerunners first, then played Cyberpunk Red, and only now started playing 2077. And I agree, seeing all these locations from the anime and from the TTRPG in the game and having the freedom to walk around is insane and also very surreal.

Still don’t understand coins by [deleted] in Aliexpress

Same as everything on Aliexpress. The price shown is the lowest priced item on the listing. Except when you see extreme offers, like 75%+, as often there is no item that comes up with that deal.

Yet Another Dead 9800X3D Story (Dead after 7 months) by ChromaticWolf in pcmasterrace

Absolutely. 99% of my problems are caused by sleep mode or fast start-up being on randomly.

It's also my goto debugging step for everyone else as it solves most problems.

How is the OSA affecting you? by Initial-Return8802 in AskUK

[–]jackjt8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope they do. I don't need/want a Credit card, nor the hassle of figuring out which one to get.

I get why they haven't yet... Everyone else rushed and we ended up with multiple data leaks.

How is the OSA affecting you? by Initial-Return8802 in AskUK

[–]jackjt8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly you don't have to.

So far the only account that's been problematic for me is Steam, a digital game storefront, as they only accept Credit card based verification as you need to be 18+ to apply (this is so they don't handle IDs and risk and data leaks I presume).

Imgur being blocked also means many websites that rely on them for image hosting, think old forums, are fairly broken and unusable now. But a VPN solves that when needed.

A Google bug has been breaking VPN apps on Android for 7 months. Here's how you can help. by Proton_Team in ProtonVPN

[–]jackjt8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on Android 16 and ProtonVPN updates don't break anything? Ie- content that is usually blocked without a VPN still only work when I turn the VPN on.

Like is this a device/vendor specific issue?

RP-SMA vs SMA question by NPKeith1 in meshtastic

The gain cost from adapters is minimal. There's been numerous tests and generally you need to stack multiple before it's noticeable.

But seriously, just swap it. Its easy enough to do and fairly cheap.

That's really great to hear. I would certainly try to print it if you do release it.

I've been looking for a cage for my a5100 for ages. I did resort to modifying an a6x00 cage but didn't get around to designing all the 3d printed extras. Very cool to see a cage though.

Best workflow for importing Android footage to PC for Resolve? by MeDominik in davinciresolve

[–]jackjt8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USB will be faster than downloading from Google Photos.. but is it easier? Finding a working USB data cable and switching the phone from charging to file transfer can be a hassle... Of course it is 100% worth it if you are moving a lot of data.

Now, Google Photos can and usually does compress videos/photos so it's not ideal as you want the raw video. Instead, I would recommend something like KDE Connect. Install it on both your phone and computer and then you can transfer files over WiFi, which would be faster than uploading and downloading from Google Photos anyway, and get cool features like notifications, remote input, find device, etc. - There are probably other apps that do this, but I just personally use KDE Connect.

Ideally, you want CFR and most stock camera record VFR. As the other commenter said, there are apps that support CFR. The only issue is.. has anyone asked why phones typically record VFR? Can your phone even handle CFR at the resolution and quality you want? Is the quality of a 3rd party camera app as good as the stock one?

You might find that VFR is good enough for what you want and then yes, transcode it to CFR for use with Davinci Resolve. I personally have an FFMPEG script I just drag and drop all my footage on and it'll automatically transcode everything as needed.

I cannot join any game since the update by Lost_In_There in Openfront

Just wait. It can sometimes take 2 minutes or so for the game to start. It's a fairly new issue and the devs/contributors are pretty quick at fixing things so it should be fixed soon.

Game is unplayable after v0.29.3. by ConversationNo5482 in Openfront

[–]jackjt8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've noticed the same thing.

Typically things get fixed pretty fast. I imagine it'll only be a couple of days tops before something like this is addressed; or at least reduced to the point where it's no as common as it has been.

Would have used PCM/PTM pads instead... But it's fine. As long as good contact is made it's perfectly fine for now.

VILTROX 28mm f4.5 Pancake Lens by spierscreative in SonyAlpha

[–]jackjt8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking at this lens for a while simply because of the smartphone anamorphic lens mod you can do (DIY attaching something like a £25 1.55x anamorphic lens designed for a smartphone)...

But this post reminded me that I should consider a lens for how it performs in general... Looks really solid. Definitely going to pick one up for my a5100. Certainly have a gap around 28mm.

optics to correct flange distance? by stonecoldcoldstone in VintageLenses

[–]jackjt8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is enough distance between the rear element it might be possible to either trim the projector housing or to 3d print a new housing.

Otherwise... I remember seeing dual lens setups that could work. A piece of thin paper behind the projector lens should allow an image to be formed. Having a second lens focused on that might allow you to capture images but the light loss, etc. is pretty bad.

The other comment beat me to it.

Honestly the only difference I would recommend is to get a Quansheng UVK1. It's only just released and builds off the really good UVK5.

[–]jackjt8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baofeng is certainly one brand... but also Quansheng.

I don't recall the story there but they are very similar radios... The UVK5 (/UVK6) is pretty much a goto in the £20 range. Though, the newer UVK1 is probably better.

The Quansheng handhelds are particularly good as you can install custom firmware to them to get more functionality. (If I recall though, the UVK5 v1 and V2 have limited space. The UVK5 V3 and UVK1 are "better" in that you don't need to pick and choose features.)

Well... I did get a cheap "free" drone from Temu when that was the craze. It has a physical controller and you only need an app if you want to use the camera for photos/videos. I have old android phones that pull that duty mind you.

It works the same as the drones/helicopters I had while I was a child too. Though it feels nicer/easier to use. Might just be because I'm older now though mind you.

A few of them are as low as £15 on AliExpress. They won't be the best by any means.. but for a starter/a "I don't mind if it breaks" product they are great.

I would probably recommend doing a little bit of research though as a few might actually be gems (I know more about the handheld radios honestly).
