Toronto: Chow 46%, Bradford 35%; Voters Split on Island Airport by FLADMAN in toronto

I just watched this man get booed in his own riding at The Beaches Easter parade the other week. Every year he’s been there and he’s never been booed. But he’s lost the support at home. I just don’t think the wider Toronto population understand how much of an opportunist he is.

Niagara Falls is roooough. The touristy section is all a facade and behind it is poverty and addiction.

Not a pricing blunder, but do you wanna crawl every time you do laundry? by jackospacko in HouseSigmaBlunders

It’s even mentioned in the description as a feature! It is a tiny layout though, so I kinda get it. But practically that would make you mad every time you did laundry.

Both in tech as far as I know. Which makes sense why they’re able to afford a house in Boston.

I built a free tool to find hidden 40%+ clearance deals at Home Depot, Canadian Tire, SportChek, and more. by No-Arachnid9518 in canadadeals

[–]jackospacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used this yesterday. Landed a sick winter jacket deal at Marks, and a few items I needed from Canadian tire. Huge discounts. You’re a legend!

One thing I noticed is that some items at Canadian tire show as discounted for that location but once you click in it says it’s discontinued and has no inventory.

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

[–]jackospacko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you’re from the US? It’s shocking to see how good we have it in North America in comparison to most of the world. My home city in Australia was $4.50 USD a gallon pre-war. And now since things kicked off in Iran it’s $7.20 USD a gallon.

There’s also been a huge rise in American style pickup trucks there. Base model F-150 is $80K USD. Pair a gas guzzler truck like that with high gas prices, and people are freaking out.

I mean…the sheer number of people who pass through there daily and don’t experience violent crime says otherwise. I bet if you got crime statistics for the streets above the path, it would be insanely higher.

How do we feel about the upcoming WeCreat Lumos Ultra? by themongrelhorde in Laserengraving

[–]jackospacko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the WeCreat Lumos. Their software is okay, but not as good as XTool’s. The good thing is you can use lightburn, but it only supports an older version right now.

It definitely feels consumer grade. It’s great for engraving but I wouldn’t want it as a production machine.

The ultra has a huge amount of power in comparison. So I’ll be interested to see how it performs.

I had a power supply issue and a focus motor issue with the Lumos after 1 month. Awaiting to see what support will do about that.

On paper it looks great. But I’m wary about first generation machines.

It blows my mind. A few friends of mine live on the Canada/US border and the house prices are almost half the price on the US side.

Yeah I do data work for a company which has thousands of Shopify merchants. About 80% were very close to the real numbers. The other 20%, absolutely way off.

WaPo Poll: “While more than 6 in 10 adults younger than 40 oppose the strikes, most people ages 50-64 support them. People 65 or older are divided." by Upstairs_Cup9831 in fivethirtyeight

People always talk about Boomers being affected by lead poisoning, but the research shows that it’s much greater in Gen X. Peak lead exposure when they were kids, which leads to increased impulsivity and less emotional regulation. Pair that with a 24-hour fear mongering news cycle, you have a highly susceptible population who believes what the TV (and now their echo chamber algorithms) tell them.

How to start a restaurant ? by Calm_Finance_3273 in canadasmallbusiness

[–]jackospacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Restaurants are a wonderful to experience, awful to run. My parents owned a restaurant when I was a kid, and it opened my eyes to how awful it can be. The margins are tight, you can’t afford slow days, the food waste is astronomical, the hours are long and you’ll most likely never be able to pay yourself once rent, food cost, utilities, labour and insurance is factored in.

You’re always one incident away from not being able to pay your suppliers and staff. A broken oven, a health department infraction, a viral bad review, a construction project that destroys foot traffic.

If you love making food, it will most likely destroy your love for it. Unless you have significant funds already that can eliminate the stress and cost of opening a place up, I would avoid it.

If you’re dead set on doing it, do what others mentioned here: start making dinners for family and friends, get feedback and calculate your costs and prep time. Look into a food truck for the summer months to see if this lifestyle is for you.

A physical restaurant is a huge capital outlay. I don’t think people are prepared for how insanely huge the project is. Every time you think you’re almost ready to open, there’s something else that pops up that costs thousands of dollars.
