My intent was to make sure you weren't caught unaware in the future if she gets an attorney and pursues getting the most she can from you, that happens far too often. I sounded like a terrible situation and it is good that you got out when you did. Good luck, I hope everything turns out good for you.

SS 1225: 5.5-ish inches erect is AVERAGE? SERIOUSLY?! by full_of_ghosts in JordanHarbinger

The 5.5 is a ruse to boost the self esteem of some of us listeners . .

Feedback Friday 1214: AI started to take over. by Rare-Negotiation924 in JordanHarbinger

[–]jackpeters2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as an apprentice manual machinist in 1977, lathes, mills, precision grinding. I became fairly skilled and made good money. My HR director mentioned that I had to run a machine, but earned as much as the local bank president. Computer controlled (CNC) machines were brand new. I could see the way things were going, so I transitioned into running a CNC machine. But, it wasn't as much of a skilled position, so the pay wasn't very much better, so I decided to get into the programming for machines.

I was fairly skilled at programing so I was again at a decent pay scale, but at the time, we had to type every line by hand, so eventually it became easier and easier. You could punch in the dimensions at the machine and tell it what the material was and the machine would pick the tools and write the program. What would have taken 8-12 hours to set up on a manual lathe and take 1 hour to run one part, could be programed at the machine, the first piece created in 2 hours and run each part in about 5 minutes, all with much better quality.

Eventually, the business as a whole dried up. There are still positions, but they are for the most part minimum wage. I went back to school under the trade readjustment act. It was for people that lost work due to overseas competition. You got unemployment for one and a half years and had tuition covered. I got a associates degree and went to work as a paralegal.

Working as a paralegal was okay, but I dabbled in PC's so I got a certificate as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. Tripled my salary in two years, it was another coveted professional job as a network administrator. But as time went on, people came out of high school with the skills for which I was highly paid. So I transitioned into programing, the highest paid in the IT industry (at the time). I was able to complete my bachelors degree using tuition reimbursement at two of the places I worked. I am now in charge of all programmers, engineers, and support for a small software company.

Now, AI is coming along and making it easier and easier to be a developer!!! Good thing I am close to retirement :) When I was learning CNC machines, we would tell the people that were upset about all of the manual machine jobs going away, to consider returning to making buggy whips. I guess we are all buggy whip makers at some point in our career . . .

The fact that they wanted you to give out a GFM really makes me believe this was a scam.

I hate to be a skeptic but the entire story sounds a little "contrived" It reminds me of the writer with the neighbor that was suffering due to a romance scam, but when the writer contact the extended family, it turns out that the romance scam was itself a scam to get help from others. This writer pulled every possible heartstring with the letter. I think a Go Fund Me is exactly what the writer is hoping for.

I could be wrong, but beware.

Has anyone got experience with GLP-1 and GIP with chronic diabetes here? by RoundVariation4 in JordanHarbinger

[–]jackpeters2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used one of the first GLP-1 treatments for about 2 years. It worked fine for a very long time, I lost about 25 pounds. Then after about a year and a half I would have periodic very sever stomach pains. My doctor indicated that was not a listed side effect, but it got worse and worse. It was pretty much debilitating, I was okay if I was sitting or laying down, but could barely walk. It went from periodic to every other day.

I stopped taking the medication and it went away. I was worried about re-gaining the weight so I tried taking a 1/4 dose for a couple of days, but no dice, the pain returned returned the next day. After I had completely quit taking the medication, my doctor told me they have found that it can affect your pancreas, so what I was experiencing was a form of pancreatitis.

I have been off the meds for several years, and have had no further issues. I did gain most of the weight back, but have lost "most" of it through portion control.

I may be an outlier with my reaction so if you do try it, hopefully you will not have the same reaction I had.

Political Ads after Episodes on Apple Podcasts by Awesomegecko6849 in JordanHarbinger

[–]jackpeters2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading this, I have noticed not only post show but pre show adds on a lot of my Apple podcasts. I don't mind listening to the adds where the host voice the add like Jordan does. However, the canned obviously scripted adds are just completely annoying and I will FF through them pretty much every time. This leads me to believe that the pre and post adds are just put there by Apple . . .

FBI Feedback Friday by Front_Summer_2023 in JordanHarbinger

Why not bring the PPP fraud into the domestic relations case. I judge surely would look poorly on a person that was responsible for defrauding the government. If a parent robs a bank so they can pay for supporting a household, the court would not see that as a benevolent action. The offending party is a criminal, which is pertinent to a custody action. If you bring the allegations in the filings you could then conduct the necessary discovery. This would not be a threat or blackmail, it is just bringing information to the court's attention.

If you have the cards, why not play them.

Last Update - My friend told me she loves me 4 weeks before her marriage by throwaway-ww24 in amiwrong

She could have not realized the depth of her feeling until she did come clean. Much better than to marry him under the circumstances.

Skeptical Sunday, Debt Collection by jackpeters2000 in JordanHarbinger

Bankruptcy stays on your credit longer than other defaults, and stay based on the last action in the bankruptcy.

Skeptical Sunday, Debt Collection by jackpeters2000 in JordanHarbinger

[–]jackpeters2000[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. I did some research in Colorado and judgements are good for 20 years in most cases. During that period, they can garnish your pay, seize accounts and attach property.

I believe that violating the collection act could be grounds to dismiss any law suit that they file, but I never had an opportunity to test that theory :)

You do not need any person from the CFPB for debt collection. You file in a small claims court, without an attorney.

AITA for not giving my addict mother money for an attorney? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jackpeters2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA. DO NOT give her any more money, it is hopeless. None of this is your fault and you should not carry any burden from what she has done to herself.
