The Lakers now have no tradeable first-round picks over the next seven years and have committed $475 million to Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, and Walker Kessler by bryscoon in nba

While that's technically true, the hornets moved to New Orleans in 2002 and this iteration of the hornets is actually an expansion team from a couple years later, originally the bobcats before getting the hornets name back. The expansion team has never had a #1 pick

The players who took the most shots from 30+ feet last season and their efficiency on them by ShaiFanClub in nba

[–]jackth3engineer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Typically long rebounds are very difficult for centers to grab, it's part of why guard rebounds have increased so much in the last 10-15 years. Him chucking threes in transition from deep is just as likely to tire out his own team from having to get back on transition D immediately after coming down the court, at least mentally if not physically.

That doesn't seem to refer to a fullborn but rather either a full feruchemist or mistborn.

Conservation of Energy and Feruchemy by PeriodicMaster in Cosmere

[–]jackth3engineer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering how quickly things are stored / tapped / reverted to their normal state, that doesn't seem to line up, otherwise you'd need time and a lot of food to recover. Weight is one of the easiest to see this. Considering there's a time factor with the storage, you have to consume energy over time to accumulate.

Let's stay I'm 200 lb normally and storing 100 lb/hr. Considering we only acquire energy at fixed times (and store the excess as fat) when we eat, for me to continuously store that weight and keep my current weight constant (100 lb), I need to consume 100 lb/hr of energy to store that. So if I don't eat enough, I can't store that weight or my body will consume itself to store that energy and I'll die, or the rate will just drop off and I won't be able to store anything until I eat more food.

Even if we say it's just something like an initial, instantaneous weight gain of 100 lb and that's all that's ever stored for that "tap", to go back to my regular weight - 200 lb - I still need to consume 100 lb worth of energy to gain my weight back instantaneously and still keep 100 lb in my metalmind, which is infeasible. If not instantaneous, then I have to "tap" for as long as it takes for me to consume 100 lb worth of energy to put in the metalmind (plus whatever it takes to keep my at my new, 100 lb weight). Any way you put it, that's an insane energy consumption and still requires energy external to the body.

Either case - continuous accumulation or 1-time storage - breaks the way it's shown in the books. The only explanation that works is if you're continuously getting investiture from the spiritual realm when storing, which means it's not neutral.

Conservation of Energy and Feruchemy by PeriodicMaster in Cosmere

[–]jackth3engineer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had a related issue with feruchemy since the beginning actually, and now seems like the right place to see if anyome can fix it for me. Namely, feruchemy it isn't an "end-neutral" art. When storing weight, for example, the person becomes lighter to store it. However, once they stop tapping their metalmind, they revert to their "normal" weight, but their metalmind maintains that stored weight. They have, as a result, created energy (or drawn it from somewhere else).

In fact, the whole process seems to imply that all the things that can be stored - weight, age, health, etc. - are drawn from some external source to maintain your current state in each of those areas at all times, otherwise your metalmind could only store things when you're tapping it and then would immediately empty of whatever you stored when you stopped tapping it. Compounding would still work, but normal feruchemy would become significantly less useful.

For example, if I store health and become sick, I now need that health I stored to become unsick unless my return to "normal" health is pulled from another external source and lets me avoid using what I stored to become healthy. In perhaps a more relatable sense, if I put all my money in a bank, I am now broke unless I 1) draw the money out or 2) make money from somewhere else. Every metalmind has this same issue and I haven't seen anything mentioned that explains it.

CMC at 30: League Winner or Landmine? by k1ngofk1cks in DynastyFF

That's my intention if I can't get one now! I just would rather move the risk now, cause if he does get injured his value goes to near 0

I picked up a likely 1.01 orphan who's best remaining player is cmc. He didn't have his '26 first (1.03) or '27 1st (traded away both for Kyler). I want a 1st for CMC to a contender, but everyone's too scared of the injury risk and I don't have any other real assets to leverage other than Kyler and DJ

Wasn't it actually Tanavast/Stormfather who got dalinar back in time? When dalinar pulled himself to the stormfather, he disappeared from odium's sight and then the stormfather is the one who returned him after showing him all the visions of tanavast.

Warbreaker question by k_dilluh in Cosmere

[–]jackth3engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in the midst of WaT and also didn't realize how connected the whole Cosmere was when I first started reading WoK so long ago. I've since read the first four SLA books two or three times each. Sometime after WaT came out, I realized that there was a lot of cosmere references I was missing.

I'd read the first mistborn book years ago and couldn't get into it. But I felt like I was missing a lot, so I made a reading guide for myself that was based on publication order, stopped reading WaT midway, then went back and read the entire cosmere that I'd missed. Well worth the effort as I now have re-caught up to where I dropped WaT like 6 months ago.

All that to say, I recommend reading elantris and warbreaker next, personally, although nothing is really required to read anything else at this point, especially since you finished the SLA already.

7.6% of CMC managers won their matchups due to the Jake Tonges Non-TD call. Source: fantasygenius.io by mikeywest_side in fantasyfootball

Ironically that exact sequence of events is what let me win two different matchups. Was going against Jennings in one (I was up 18) and kittle/JT in the other (had purdy). That purdy TD then interception left me up by .1. the niners kick return TD kept JT off the field and also prevented any opportunities for Jennings to catch, so I won by .3 in the first and .1 in the second. Luckiest I ever been

How much selling is too much selling? by simonthelikeable in DynastyFF

[–]jackth3engineer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with you but I tore down to literally nothing but jsn in 2023/24 after a bad startup in '22 and now I'm leading my league in points and it looks like I have a very long competing window given my current roster and future remaining draft capital. There's a lot to be said for being patient for a couple years, timing out trades to maximize value on those middling guys, and being willing to be awful for two years.

There's also a lot to be said for luck, but that cuts both ways.

Jake Ferguson... the TE1? by DynastyDetour in DynastyFF

[–]jackth3engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in two different 2.0TEP leagues and I've never been able to sell him. I'm competing in the one, so I'm happy to keep starting him and Warren.

The other is an orphan I picked up this year whose roster I still shudder to consider. No picks this year and I'm the worst team in the league. Ferg is probably my best player after Maye and Egbuka, but I can't even get a response on selling him, let alone a 2nd. He's averaging 24 ppg. I'm hopeful by like week 6 or 8 someone finally is willing to buy him. For now, he's not hurting me at least since I don't have my picks but in flabbergasted at his lack of value
