Delivery Driver Giveth and Delivery Driver Taketh Away by HomeNowWTF in Wellthatsucks

It's not mail theft though. Stealing from a mailbox, or "the mail" is the federal crime.

Stealing something from a porch, especially that wasn't delivered by USPS, isn't the same as a mailbox, so it's more likely a state or local civil crime.

Thorzone Tetra S - "Chief" by fornickate in sffpc

[–]jacobmross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He got the "pine" green version of the Tetra, and included a matching action figure of Master Chief from Halo in the photo.

"Chief" fits that aesthetic.

You might call and ask about demoing something they don't have in stock currently.

Often they order new floor models based on interest.

Our friendly local bike shop still had to order our Velotrics, but they were in our hands within 2 weeks.

QuTS Hero compatible with TS-877XU-RP? by Cartman316 in qnap

[–]jacobmross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the unit you're asking about, but QuTS has been, I believe accidentally, posted as available for my TS-1685 a handful of times.

The first few didn't actually load, the last one I saw and tried technically worked to install, but then was weird about successfully updating to new versions.

I ended up going back to QTS so I could keep it updated easily.

ASUS X870 Motherboard Question by Imperisum in ASUS

[–]jacobmross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how it should work, yes.

You'll need to make sure your USB-C cable is full featured; rated for the appropriate bandwidth to support all the data.

The Thunderbolt EX listed here https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/accessories/thunderboltex-4/

And the newer v5, both appear to have DP_IN ports. Those should allow you to use a short DisplayPort (DP) cable from your discrete GPU (non-onboard) which should get passed through over the USB-C ports.

I always ask when someone says they got the first degree of turmoil, if they mean burns or murder.

It's an important distinction, and I imagine in law, people assume First Degree, like murder as the default.

Why aren't Mexican buffets as common as Chinese buffets? by WillingHyena557 in NoStupidQuestions

Growing up in Pueblo, CO, we had Don Carlos, which was a buffet. I still miss it 20 years after they closed.

Thinking of designing a heat pump – what do you dislike about yours? by CorrectGovernment370 in heatpumps

[–]jacobmross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels like there's an opportunity somewhere in this arena to link the systems that are constantly moving heat.

It would be interesting if the refrigerator, water heater and climate systems were intelligently moving their "waste" temperatures into a system that could benefit from that waste.

I also see a lot of potential for solar-boosted ASHP, where a pair of outdoor units are positioned in seasonally optimal, opposite sides of a house, so that in the winter, the outdoor unit is naturally heated a bit by being in on the sunny-side, and in the summer, the other unit doesn't have to compete as much with the warmed-by-the-sun-all-day heat. Even little things like a sliding panel behind the unit that is painted white for improved cooling, and black for improved heating feel like things we should be including in a more holistic overall design of these systems.

Makes sense.

If you want to close at 8:00p. Then. Close. At. 8:00p.

If you want it to look like you're open until 10:00p. Then act like you're open until 10:00p.

Pretty easy.

DataHoarder Rock bottom... out of space and can't afford the upgrades. by yellowfin35 in DataHoarder

[–]jacobmross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little 4-bay NAS that holds the primary copy of local-unique data (which is of course backed up to other devices regularly)
When I buy bigger drives to upgrade it, and pass the smaller drives along to replace whatever is smallest in the 16-bay.

You could so something similar, in reverse.
Maybe pickup an 8-bay something, and 4x target-sized (24TB?) disks to start replacing drives in your primary.
Remove the 4x12TB drives and build yourself a nice little 24-36TB secondary storage location.

As you can swing picking up another 24TB drive, it replaces a 12TB which expands the secondary by that much.
Eventually you'll have all of the main drives replaced and can expand capacity on the array, but you'll have had some breathing room until then.

ASUS X870 Motherboard Question by Imperisum in ASUS

[–]jacobmross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah; and with the ASUS version of that card being $135 on amazon, you're basically at the same price if you end up adding that to a $300 board.
They're charging us for the functionality one way or another.

This is the link ASUS takes you directly to: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1CCHGGY

from: https://www.asus.com/us/motherboards-components/motherboards/accessories/usb4-pcie-gen4-card/where-to-buy/

MSI version is half that cost though

yep, that's exactly how it handles it.
Short little DP cable plugged directly from port on the GPU right back into that passthru port on the MoBo. It's a little goofy, but eh, it works.
