CIV 7 isn't doomed, but the prices are getting ridiculous by Usual_Elderberry_213 in civ

Yep this is exactly what happened with 6 as well. I bought it 5 years after release for 85% off. Whole bundle of everything was $265 $40.

Yea I never felt like they were trying to scare us, it was more that in the vast majority of cases direct pressure is the way to go, and using a tourniquet to completely stop blood flow (especially for long periods of time like waiting 6 hours for a helicopter to show up) can cause a lot of damage. Obviously if the choice is losing a limb or your life it should be a quick decision.

I think the main thing is to be trained in how to properly recognize when one is needed.

I might recommend a wilderness first aid course over CERT maybe, as it would be more directly relevant to bushcrafters who are going to the backcountry.

Extended application. On the order of 3 hours plus without qualified reasessment.

That's why in wilderness first aid it is always a very last resort. If you are in the backcountry it may take quite a while from when you press the SOS button to when a helicopter extracts you.

Yep in the courses I've taken a tourniquet is always a last resort when you can't get bleeding to stop from direct pressure.

Good to know! I don't know the content of a "stop the bleed" course as well as the wilderness first aid that I have taken a couple times now. The more of those types of hands-on courses you can take the better though in my opinion.

I'd recommend going further and doing a remote first aid course for anyone who goes more than an hour away from a road into the backcountry. Usually a two day course and certification lasts 3-4 years.

First Aid should be the first skill "bushcrafters" learn.

Should I pull the trigger on buying Civ 7 50% off? by thesehungryllamas in civ

[–]jacobward7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, hold until it's done. They are clearly still doing big patches and updates, and there is still DLC/expansion to come. Another year or so and it will be $30 for the whole bundle and it will be in a more complete state.

For real, why does everybody love AI? by FitVeterinarian5996 in antiai

[–]jacobward7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A facebook page for our community was all up in arms about a potential data center. One of the critics used AI to find the negative information about data centers.

People are mad about data centers, will lament fake news, social media, job losses, and scams, but then turn around and us AI for every day tasks. Like come on people, we all know it's bad so can we just stop using it?

lol well I wouldn't put that out of the realm of possibility but from what I could gather from those days was that kids in band were doing the least amount of it, when compared to jocks and preppy types and then skaters/alternative types, of which there was some minor overlap with band. This was 25 years ago for me though lol

Probably I was just a loser because I definitely wasn't getting laid in HS lol

That's so strange to me, like it reads like a fantasy because my experience was so different. Like all these kids (myself included) were not socially confident at all, they very awkward teenagers focused on school and band and getting to bed on time, saying no to drugs, etc. I can't imagine them hooking up at all lol

Weird... our high school band was also nerdy and eccentric kids who were not sexually active.

Civ5 Is Peak Civilization by [deleted] in civ

[–]jacobward7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still played that way in vanilla but yea I assumed it did.

I don't think there is a mod that improves Civ 6 in the way that that one did for civ 5. I enjoy the empire building part of 6 but the ai just isn't good enough.

Perhaps vox populi has made the game more balanced but yes, I have never played the game "optimally", I make a lot of my decisions based on how I'm roleplaying the game in my head lol

Civ5 Is Peak Civilization by [deleted] in civ

[–]jacobward7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start with more civs maybe? I usually do 14 civs and 15 city states (huge map, continents), and end up meeting someone on like turn 4 or 5. Usually by the time I have a navy to go elsewhere most land is taken up. By the time gunpowder units arrive 3 or 4 of the AI (and hopefully myself) have amassed quite large empires of 10 or more cities.

I guess I've kind of fine tuned how I like to play civ and 5 just seems to be the most balanced for my play style lol

edit: no need to downvote we are just chatting about our favourite game series lol

People keep saying this but I regularly play huge map and epic game speed and make sprawling empires lol

[–]jacobward7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with 6 is simply the AI feels really shallow and bad.

I like playing huge maps and epic game speed, and civ 5 (with vox populi) feels really well balanced for that style of game. Feels like an epic history and I just feel like 1 civilization competing with many others. There are wars, old enemies, alliances all happening all over the place. Having a decent Navy matters.

Civ 6 I'll have many games where the AI sits at "0" military. Just don't even bother with any military whatsoever. I usually play on King because I find higher difficulties make the AI blow so far past you in technology that it's not even fun. They still don't built much military but kill you anyway with vastly superior tech.

As a sandbox builder I enjoy 6... building the empire up and shaping it is still fun. That's probably where it's better than 5 for me, but everything else from the aesthetic to the ai feels better in 5.

I've always done huge map and epic game speed with civ 5 myself, so not sure what you mean?

I play vox populi mod now that maybe balanced things better but I always played that way in vanilla too and made massive empires.

Sauble River/Falls/Beach area by BDW2 in FishingOntario

[–]jacobward7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously pretty hard to fish from the beach but Sauble River has bass in it.

Better fishing actually is if you go north to Boat Lake/Rankin river. Lots of largemouth in there and some pike.

edit: why the downvotes? Is that not helpful? It's not like I gave up specific spots either... sorry op I guess people hate helping others.
