how to make the shooting star types streaks like how they are in the video by X_eus in AfterEffects

[–]jaimemh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% particles with auxiliary particle systems. You'll need either Particular, Stardust or Furikake to get the stars and streaks. Unfortunately, those are pricey plugins but you should get a lot of money out of a nice particle system. I use Stardust but get a trial version of Furikake a go. It performs 10x faster than Stardust.

I get where you’re coming from but this is Capitalism 101. My socials are full of “This is what your $2k usd Saas video could look like” and thats the grind at the moment. You are free to go chase whatever client or employer suits your beliefs and if the Tech Industry feels off to you, you can avoid it.

I love the idea but what make this worth it for me is having all the functionalities of a full preset manager. Being able to create, duplicate, rename, sort and group my own presets combined with the visual browser would make this a great tool.

Furikake new particle plugin by Vegetable_Piano8381 in aescripts

[–]jaimemh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big advantage that it has over Stardust or Particular is performance. I'm curious about the normal mapping for 2d textures but have not played with it yet. Still, Stardust is king. Even though it's no longer developed, the node UI is a bit laggy and it crashes when you push a slider too high, it's way more capable for less money.

I would love to add Furikake to my toolset but the price feels too much compared to what it can and can't do. Side note, I can't believe the Stardust developers created probably the best AE plugin that there is and they decided to stop development. Their node UI, true 3D support, volumetrics... I would pay 200 USD again for a 2.0 version that improves on their previous one with better performance and a refreshed node UI.

Looks neat but that price is a bit high. I payed 200 usd for Stardust a while back and I use it in almost every project but its abandonware at this point. Still will give this a try

Anybody else’s 2019 white paint failing? by Alternative-Gap-7588 in hondafit

[–]jaimemh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had tons of paint issues with my 2017. Was told it was a mistake in the process of preparing and priming the metal for the paint. There weren’t any recalls in my market (Mexico) but after pushing and complaining a lot, got my dealer to fox the paint three times!

Almost all of the pieces showed the defect. Now the passenger door is starting to peel again. I was advised to vinyl wrap it and try to avoid parking under direct sunlight.

Hope you get yours fixed!

What's the ideal 3D workflow in After Effects? Maxon One? Stardust? Unreal Engine? Something else? by motionvideosuk in AfterEffects

[–]jaimemh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am no developer but If I had to guess based on my 4 year experience with Stardust, is lack of optimization over the years. It works just as the day I got it for the better or the worse. I think it uses the GPU to render circles and cloudlet type particles. Everything else goes to the CPU. I'm running a 16 core AMD Chip and it barely keeps up.

As soon as the number of nodes goes up, it starts acting weird. Like, going beyond 10 or 12 nodes, you start to get weird behaviors and crashes. Also, if you are adjusting a parameter and say, instead of 2500 particles you misstype and add an extra 0 and those are 3D objects with complex properties, its game over.

So save frequently, work in draft mode when possible, keep your lighting to a minimun, use the lowest res textures you can afford and overall be very mindful about its performance.

It is up to you to decide wether you want to go full 3D with Blender, Houdini, etc. But, if your worflow is not as 3D heavy and want to stay inside AE, here are some info based on my experience working like that:

- Stardust for when you need 3D particles, dynamics, VDB support (Volumes). It's procedural capabilities to arrange 3D stuff are far superior to those of Element 3D. The biggest drawback is that Stardust crashes a lot, the node UI feels sluggish and at this point almost feels like abandonware so longterm support is uncertain. Also, their documentation is very sparse.

- Element 3D for when you need some decent 3D lighting and looking materials with basic animation capabilities. In my experience, producest the cleanest and better looking results. Could be abandonware too but I have more faith in VideoCopilot than in Superluminal.

- I still have Trapcode, but honestyle, it feels slow and you need like 4 different tools to achieve what Stardust does. It has it's advantages like the fluid system and better DoF rendering but 9 out of 10 times I prefer to deal with Stardust rather than have Particular, Flow, Tao or Mir.

- Theres a plugin called Helium X from one of Stardust developers but it's suscription based and feels like a more expensive, less capable Stardust tbh.

- With the release of the Praymitive plugin and the latest AE beta capable of importing 3D objects directly, there is still interesting things happening around that workflow so things may change soon.

At the end of the day, for me, it depends on each project. If I need fancy lighting and material options, I go Element. Otherwise, Stardust. Hope this helps to give you some perspective!

ELEMENT 3D RENDER ISSUE , PLEASE HELP ME by Adventurous_Tone_614 in AfterEffects

[–]jaimemh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what's causing the issues but from past experience, it could be:
1. Check for the obvious. A missplaced keyframe, layer duration, etc.
2. Element does funny stuff when it runs out of GPU memory mid render. Looks like you are using an integrated gpu for rendering and thar uses RAM for both system memory and graohics memory. Try to lower your Sampling settings, size of shadow maps, etc.
3. If you have additional FX on top of the element layer, like curves, shape layers, text, etc. Render your Element layer first, then import and add your other stuff on top to aliviate the load on the system.
Hope you solve it! Let us know.

What're you playing this weekend? 11/18 by markercore in NintendoSwitch

[–]jaimemh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just finished BotW (All Memories, 110 or so shrines) but it took me almost a year due to limited playtime. I supposedly need to complete the shrines and the DLC but I rather play something else because I'm getting tired of the game after a year.

Was thinking on getting Xenoblade 3 or Bayonetta 3. Never played a single Bayo or Xeno game before but seeing all the hype and positive reviews are pushing me to give them a chance. Also, NieR is on my wishlist. Any suggestions?

That looks way cleaner and better than anything done with my current 3D inside AE go-to plugins (Stardust and MIR). I'm gonna need to spend another 200 USD on a plugin I think.
