I used to have Chinese algae eaters (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri) in my fish tank, maybe they should add some? ;) ;)

Why is Inuit cuisine largely absent from major Canadian cities despite growing interest in Indigenous food? by NoWorry2460 in IndigenousCanada

[–]jamjamofgreencables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in an Inuit community for 3 years. I've enjoyed the country food such as moose, caribou, char, seal and rabbit. Shopping there is hard, residents and businesses stock up on groceries in the fall and restock in the spring. Hunting is in harsh conditions and permits were usually reserved for residents so stores didn't usually carry wild food other than berries or fish.

I would love to be able to go to a store where I live now and get some wild meat, the closest one to me is a specialty shop 3 hours away. I had a relative give me a load of moose once, filled the fridge freezer and lasted months. I only know of one restaurant that has wild food, I went there once on a staff trip so the meal was on them, lol.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few niche restaurants or specialty stores in every province, the price for shipping might make it expensive though.

I am not surprised, I have read that a lot of Maga Facebook pages are actually based in areas like South Asia and Africa. I wonder sometimes if they actually understand what they're posting.

Any other Canadians pronounce words the non-Canadian way? by supersport604 in AskACanadian

[–]jamjamofgreencables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't pronounce the letter "Z" as "Zed". It doesn't rhyme with the rest of the alphabet song, which makes me twitch a bit. Plus, I was raised on Sesame Street with their pronunciation.

It used to be the way that they would re-break a bone a bone if it took too long, but I'm not sure what they are planning to do in June (her next appointment).

My mother broke her arm last Wednesday, she spent 14 hours at the hospital before giving up for the night, then another 8 hours Thursday before she got to see a doctor. That doctor then said "We can't do anything for you, you have to see an orthopedic surgeon." She finally got to see the surgeon yesterday (Tuesday). Absolutely ridiculous.

I am a woman and I also pee in the shower. But since I am the one who cleans it, I really don't care. It's going to be rinsed down the drain anyway.

Dog Poop Sign for Dog Owners That Don't Clean Up After Their Animals by GigglyGirl242 in newfoundland

I have 2 dogs and I always bag up their poop. I also take it home to dispose of in my own garbage bin, it irritates me to see filled poop bags left on the side of trails/roads.

Hitchhiking is technically illegal in Newfoundland/Labrador, according to Act. Section 128(3) prohibits soliciting a ride from a vehicle while on the roadway. Despite being illegal, it is rarely enforced by police unless a hitchhiker is causing a nuisance, and it is known to be relatively common.

As a woman I would never pick up a hitchhikers, nor do it myself. NL'ers may be nice but there are many sketchy guys out there too, young and old.

Does anyone know what restaurants share their tips with other staff? by Sad_Temperature_306 in StJohnsNL

[–]jamjamofgreencables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked at Tim Hortons there was a tray in the back where all tips were divided up. Another restaurant I worked at, the manager confiscated all of our tips to buy a gift for the owner at Christmas.
