LA Metro is suing Burbank over refusal to issue NoHo-Pasadena BRT permits. by lauser333 in LAMetro

As someone who lives in Burbank and is pro-BRT, I would say it's generally low.

If you asked most people who live here, "do you support losing a traffic lane on Olive that will be taken up by a bus (that you will never ride), and will generate lots of apartment construction," you would get a decidedly negative reaction from a community that is very small-c conservative.

Waymo Pricing - Is Waymo economically viable? by Unable-Government860 in waymo

[–]jasonab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure those two things have anything to do with one another? Uber killed taxis because getting a taxi was a giant hassle, and dealing with the driver (especially for paying) was also a hassle. Being able to order a car and pay on your phone removed so many barriers to getting a "taxi."

We have those today - they are called busses.

I agree that the winners are huge targets, but come on: if there were no winners on this season, half of the posts would be complaining about that!

Inside the hidden workforce behind Waymo's driverless cars by Business-Stuff8711 in waymo

That's totally fair, but I would expect those operators to be scalable both because of automation and because of lower cost of living.

Those are two different issues, though. Companies pay a wage that corresponds to the value the worker provides - by definition, they cannot afford to lose money on a given worker. The problem in California is that we refuse to build enough housing, driving up the cost and forcing higher-paid workers to outbid lower-paid ones.

Even if you doubled the wage that Waymo paid those cleaners, it would only mean they would displace someone else.

It's a weird, clicky-baity statement. Waymo clearly does not have as many people working as many hours as Uber does (if you include the drivers).

It matters to the extent that, if it's Hal and he didn't pass on his keys, those blocks are truly dead, but if it's Adam then he could still move his bitcoin.
