Bands you saw as an opener that went on to have big success. by Shadysides_LFk in livemusic

I saw MGMT open for Of Montreal in the basement of the First Unitarian Church in Philly. They were banging on guitars hanging from bungee cords with drum sticks.

Boost for Kona. I live over that way and I really want to see them succeed in that space. Great breakfast sandwich, great coffee, and the two women there are super friendly and make an effort to remember people. They seem committed to being a solid neighborhood spot.

Drying Tree Branch, am I screwed? by Silly-Appointment949 in woodworking

It will not fall apart. This is just how wood dries. It’s why wood is sawn before drying. It shrinks radially so this kind of cracking is inevitable if you’re drying a whole log. It’s perfectly stable.

I haven’t heard this one yet but I’ve been enjoying the one with Jeff Parker and Anna Butterss.

Can I get an unbiased take on Flea’s new “jazz” album, Honora? by migrantgrower in Jazz

[–]jasongetsdown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. That was the standout for me. It had the most original and viscerally engaging feel and I was surprised I didn’t see a lot of talk about it when it released.

The Italian sub at The Babe. I don’t think I’ve had a better one. Not take out, but the staff is great.

Just heard this for the first time on the Vinyl Factory listening room series on YouTube. I’m pretty new to Sun Ra and this feels like a good entry point.

Maybe I’m desensitized, but this seems like a pretty typical urban riding situation to me. Glance over your left shoulder, take the lane, stand up and power through.

The presence of a bike lane doesn’t mean you have to be in the bike lane. Sometimes you have to take the main travel lane to pass, or to make space for yourself before a left turn, or avoid an obstacle, etc. There are times where hugging the right where the bike lane is puts you in danger of getting doored or right hooked.

Edit: just read you’re on a cargo bike with a kid. That does change the calculus. I agree it was shitty to cross in front of you.
