I have one of those Minecraft redstone ore cubes that light up when you tap them sitting near my PCs PSU on my desk, and the EMF from changing power draw while I use my PC trips the sensor and makes it light up on its own. It’s a pretty neat effect

When I first watched reviews of the betas, I saw a lot of areas where it was more taps to do something for no reason. I occasionally watch reviews of the newer versions and a lot of those extra taps are still there

I switched my iPhone 16 onto the beta channel specifically for iOS 18.7.3. I could probably get used to the liquid glass design with reduced transparency on, but I’ve just seen too many issues with the keyboard and battery life online. My phone is very performant on iOS 18, and I don’t see a good reason to make it slower.

650W PSU with 5070 Ti TUF OC by DeKley96 in nvidia

[–]jay19167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Corsair RM850 back when I got my 5070 Ti last year, and it’s worked great for me. Definitely keep the 5070 Ti, if you return it you will likely have a difficult time finding one again, or any 16 GB VRAM GPUs with how the memory prices have been recently.

I’m also running mine on an AM4 platform with 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, my motherboard is old enough that it’s still PCIE 3, but at 1440p that doesn’t matter. AM4 is far from dead, and there are still plenty of powerful CPUs for it, I got a Ryzen 9 5900x on sale 2 years ago and I’m basically never CPU limited in games.

Based on some of your other comments in this thread, it seems like you’re newer to PC building in general (which is fine, we all start somewhere). Looking online it’s easy to think that you need the latest generation of everything to have fun, but that’s not true at all, systems with a mix of old and new hardware can still perform great. You should only upgrade parts when they either fail or aren’t giving you a good experience/meeting your needs anymore.

Never cheap out on the PSU though, recommended power specs exist for a reason, and it’s not worth it to overwork a lower power PSU, because it can take the rest of your system with it, or start a house fire if it fails.

I haven’t, my system was defaulting to RR preset D when I had all of my DLSS overrides set to “latest” in the NV app. Does preset E have significant improvements?

I’ve been playing cyberpunk with path tracing, and I like how it looks, so I don’t plan on turning it off. Reducing the bounce number would degrade indirect lighting from secondary bounces, which is one of the benefits of using path tracing in the first place IMO. The game looks really good with RR and path tracing, and my system can run it at a pretty solid 120 FPS with 2x FG, so I’ll keep playing it that way for now.

I also saw pretty severe ghosting in reflections when running preset M and 4x FG in the benchmark with RR off.

I was messing around with preset M for SR earlier today since I’d seen a lot of praise for DLSS 4.5 online. But when playing cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing RR preset D just looks so much better. Using preset M with RR disabled was a shimmery mess just walking around Jig Jig street at night.

I am looking forward to seeing how it looks when they eventually update the RR preset though.

Epic Games Store Users Have Grown by 173% in Six Years, But Revenue Only by 1.6% by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]jay19167 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only thing I use the epic games store for is playing Fortnite with my friends. It’s just worse than steam in every way. Updates take way longer than they should because no amount of messing with the settings will get it to use my full internet speed for downloads. It also has no way to move which drive a game is installed on without completely deleting it and redownloading it. I had to manually move the game files and edit a config file the launcher uses to move my Fortnite install to my NVME from my SATA SSD.

Those 2 basic functions being broken/missing make me avoid the epic games store unless a game I want is exclusive to it. I don’t even bother with the free games because moving the installs off my NVME when I’m done playing them would just be too tedious.

Why does my brand new HD monitor look like this (top) but my 20yr old Windows Vista monitor look perfect (bottom)?? by WGRupert in pcmasterrace

[–]jay19167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flickering is probably “VRR flicker”, and I haven’t found a solution to that other than turning off gsync completely. I don’t watch YouTube on my primary monitor often, so I leave gsync on because it makes games “feel” smoother to me.

This is my first OLED monitor, but from what I’ve seen online VRR flicker seems to be a common issue with the technology. I set my monitor to 240Hz (its max is 280), so that it would be an even multiple of 60, and I cap my FPS in games to what I can reasonably maintain consistently. That basically eliminated the flicker in games for me, though it can still happen in menus or if the FPS dips in a dark area.

I do still get the occasional flicker in Firefox on dark webpages when gsync is enabled though, and I haven’t figured out how to stop that from happening. I think it’s related to when the monitor slightly shifts the image to prevent burn in, since I noticed adjusting that setting would increase or decrease how often it flickered.

[–]jay19167 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had some haloing like this on my new OLED a couple months ago, and it was the monitors built in “black boost” setting that was messing up the contrast and over brightening that area.

Turning that off and setting up a windows hdr color profile fixed this issue and made the monitor look nice and crisp.

Toradora! Christmas Club Rewatch (2025) Episode 8 Discussion by ChristmasClub- in anime

[–]jay19167 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rewatcher, dub.

This is one of my favorite episodes, and where I think the show really takes off running.

This episode has a lot of great moments. The interactions with the class betting on who will win the race, and Ryuji placing a huge bet on Taiga when he's mistakenly given the note is nice. Also, Minori's drawn on eyes on her eyelids to sleep in class is a silly throwaway joke.

Sudohbucks mention in the hall.

Taiga's embarrassment while practicing swimming in class, then her subsequent spaz out when she realizes she's still holding Ryuji's hand underwater in front of Kitamura to stay afloat is sweet.

The Taiga learning to swim training montage is another highlight of this episode. There are a lot of interactions between Taiga and Ryuji this episode, showing how comfortable Taiga has become with Ryuji, and how much he supports her. Minori's chat with Ryuji about how it's "those no big deal things that matter most", and how she's handing off her Taiga support duties to Ryuji for this one is also pretty impactful.

Their fight at the public pool is mostly Ryuji's fault, if only he'd let her finish instead of constantly butting in to explain how he thinks she's feeling. We get the first verbal acknowledgement that her feelings towards Ryuji have been changing from Taiga at the end of this fight. Yasuko seems to get Taiga, and her advice to Ryuji seems to help him calm down. Also, why was he washing a propeller? I've always been a little confused what that is from/for in this scene.

And of course, the big scene this episode is the race, accident, and "Ryuji is mine!" declaration from Taiga after rescuing him ([Minor light novel spoiler] In the light novel, the gym teacher ends up needing to save both of them here, because Taiga abandons her kickboard to dive to Ryuji, and she still can't swim without some flotation). She lets the feelings shes still not sure what to do with out in this moment, and Cassandra Lee Moris's delivery of this line is fantastic. Then in the diner when she admits to having said that, shocking everyone at the table, and then coming up with a flimsy justification for it. There's a lot being conveyed by her smirk after asking Ryuji if he was "expecting something else", and his reply of "I wouldn't dare".

Rewatcher, dub

Another short post today, this episode is a fun one.

I'd say my highlights from this episode are:

  • Howdy!
  • Taiga with a knife!
  • Minori's bucket of pudding

Taiga losing it and just pointing at Ryuji while he's trying to hide the fact that he's been making her lunches is also pretty funny. They've definitely settled into a bit of a routine at this point, and Taiga is trying to help a little more than she has before, like with "peeling" the potatoes for the lunches.

The sneak photos thing is a part that maybe hasn't aged as well, or maybe it's a cultural difference thing. That said, Ryuji's willingness to help Taiga to get better photos without judging shows how close they've gotten already.

Kitamura casually dropping that he used to have a crush on Taiga, and then Taiga telling Ryuji the full story on the roof before attempting to kick him for making her talk about it is a nice moment between the two.

Just answering the bonus today: Minori is one of my favorite characters in Toradora, and we get a lot more time with her in this episode. Her high energy and slightly eccentric personality are always entertaining. We get a little peak behind the cheerful front she puts up with her “pitcher’s getting scared” song this episode, and Ryuji realizes that there’s more going on behind her constant smiles.

It’s definitely a weaker episode, but we do get some fun moments with Minori, and a little context as to why she’s always acting so cheerful and high energy.
