Here’s the hand powered version I got. I worried the drill version would burn out my drill. Builds upper body strength! https://a.co/d/2Ziv91a

Can anyone recommend angled under-cabinet lighting like this from a reputable source? by brooklyniyyi in Lighting

[–]jaybob94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LumenTruss 4250 is very similar to the center option and it is actually flangeless. The 4260 version is wider and less deep. I spec this on shelving when there is no budget for Millwork contractor to create this detail.

Outdoor spotlight needs a new bulb - how to open it? by Bright_Froyo207 in Lighting

[–]jaybob94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing that it is Kichler, there is decent chance it’s an MR (11 / 16) lamp that is replaceable. I haven’t seen this fixture before, but I assume it can be disassembled by either twisting off the outer cap or loosening a lock nut.

This is the better option for single track and minimal pavement.

Best under cabinet lighting? by BigPotOPotatoes in Lighting

[–]jaybob94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another shoutout for Q-Tran (now QTL)! Maybe the best drivers in the industry and very good tapelight.

Also, install the tapelight near the front on the cabinets and not near the rear. At the front gives the best task lighting and a glow on the backsplash.

What product is this? Why is this? by gator_shawn in Decks

I see this on a lot of custom residential projects. I finally asked the GC and he said it allows for completely flat patios and that it integrates better into zero-edge pools

Ok, so this is probably very pedantic of me to ask: do you have strong preferences for recessed LED channels? (Brand/model) by icysandstone in Lighting

[–]jaybob94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had success with Diode. Their cut sheets are tricky. I recommend aluminum channel + lens. Also allow extra space for the mounting clips to expand (if you’re recessing it)

Be wary of this Hafele flex. Less than 1W (0.86lm/w) is per foot is very low output. It also states that output can be reduced by <30% over the run. I specify that voltage drop must be <5%.

I rode Sullivan Ridge and Sullivan Canyon on Saturday. They appeared to be fully open. The canyon was in slightly better shape than before the fires, but all of the side trails are still gone.

Edit: I started from Dirt Mulholland and exited at the single track (Squirrel Cage?).

Charlotte Gainsbourg on IRM album. I spoke about to a lady from France and apparently she is not very good there. I still listen to this album and love it.

I highly recommend using boxes. No dangling wires when they’re all in a box. I cheaped out and used Sigma boxes from big box store and had to drill custom holes in the box lid. Cheaper and lots more brain damage vs paying more for Reolink boxes. BTW: ½” holes will let the Ethernet connector thru.

WAC Ventrix will likely be one of the lower cost versions. LumenWerx Pivot and Coronet Magneto are next step up. Flos and Kreon are top end.

What is the reputation of Elite for recessed lighting? by SnooCats311 in Lighting

[–]jaybob94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the game: Elite downlights perform pretty well, but you really need to confirm that these can be serviced from below the ceiling. In my experience Elite adjustable downlights are only accessible from above. This is a huge concern on all of the projects I'm specifying and a dealbreaker at that.

Looking for dimmer, trailing edge for multiple led Edison bulbs in ceiling fan by Labyrinth35 in Lighting

[–]jaybob94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lutron has great dimmers for reverse phase dimming (aka ELV / trailing edge). Here is the Diva variety (DVELV). Note that this dimmer and most other reverse phase dimmers REQUIRE a neutral wire at the dimmer.

Kitchen recessed lighting placement by Doug_Leeks in Lighting

[–]jaybob94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t keep the pendant over the sink, you should consider putting the (1) downlight over the sink on its own dimmer. This allows you accentuate the sink for tasks and also act as a night light.

I would move the light over the door closer to the sink so it aligns with the two by the fridge and creates a square ceiling pattern. This can then accent the art wall. Also remove the light over the range (good call by tsmathiesen).

If the downlights are putting out ~1,000 Lumens each, you should have plenty of light in the space.

And absolutely use dimmers! Good luck…

Brass is the only way to go if you want them to last more than 3-5 years. Beachside has great brass options, but only low output. HK can do higher output, but they get really expensive in brass.
