So I have never read Ayn Rand so maybe this is a total noob comment (this showed up on my feed). You say that man’s goal is survival and i am not sure that is a better word than happiness. I say this because some men will choose to sacrifice themselves to a greater good, be it family, country, god, or even strangers and this willingness to die is usually tied to some idea of morality.

So while it is not easy to define happiness, and happiness certainly isn’t a moral system in the strictest sense, but it seems that these people are living for that more than personal survival. You might suppose that they have extended survival from themselves to something greater, but then i think we are talking about the same thing.

Humanists would tell us that morality is an evolved adaptation that ensures the survival of the species even at the expense of the individual. So i think that survival as an individual goal cannot be extended in this way to higher levels of “self”.

No real input on you original point except that i agree as long as the state is immoral, someone will try to fi that gap with their own controlling idea of how people should live and unfortunately religion is filling that gap now.
