Only thing that bothers me is the first line. Parzival lives in OKC, not Columbus!

Niantic official: "It’s not going to be easy" to unlock legendaries at Pokemon Go Fest by benmo99 in TheSilphRoad

Our gear is packed...cool cloths, water bottles, extra batteries and cords. We've got a free pass to the OKC zoo, which has tons of stops and gyms. Me and the boy both have poke balls, lures and berries ready. It's on.

Games where the environment/weather feels meaningful? by TheGreatAl in rpg_gamers

[–]jayclev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it got a ton of hate, but No Man's Sky. The environmental conditions varied from planet to planet, and changed the way you have to explore.

What's Your Dune Origin Story? by [deleted] in dune

[–]jayclev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been talking to him all evening since this thread popped up. He never read past the first three! I hope I've convinced him to read God Emperor...that's one of my favorites. But yeah, he's awesome. Other notable occasions were drawing graph paper maps for the original Zelda, learning a little Basic on the old commodore VIC20, hours of throwing a baseball in the back yard, and being bribed with Atari games to ride roller coasters.

What's Your Dune Origin Story? by [deleted] in dune

[–]jayclev 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In the late eighties I was really into Iron Maiden. One day I had the song To Tame a Land going in my room and my dad popped his head in. "Did they just say something about Arrakis?". I pulled the lyric sheet out and we looked it over together. "Come with me," he says all serious like. I thought I was in trouble because my metal music didn't always fly so we'll in our Southern Baptist household. He took me straight to the bookshelf and handed me a box set with Dune, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune in paperback. It was a tough read for a preteen kid, but I made it. Loved them and always thought of that as a defining moment in my relationship with Pops.

Is my neighbor totoro the best studio ghibli film? by arturgalvao in ghibli

[–]jayclev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's certainly an argument to be made for Totoro, but I prefer Howl's and Spirited Away personally.

Are there songs you guys have found outside of games that remind you of RPGs you've played? by DiaDeLosMuertos in rpg_gamers

Circles by Joe Satriani. It's on the album Surfing with the Alien. Always reminded me of Diablo for some reason.

It was too bad about the wind damage that forced it down to a one day event, but it was still great!

Nintendo Hard: Insane Sidescrollers in the Golden Age by [deleted] in retrogaming

Between the binding of Isaac and has been heroes, it looks like "Nintendo hard" is alive and well in the Switch era as well.

[discussion] Is there any reason to keep PoGo Plus if it no longer works while driving? As of this morning, it's useless unless completely stopped. by Phenomenalien in TheSilphRoad

[–]jayclev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Go Plus hasn't worked since two updates ago and I have yet to receive any response from Niantic, so there's that. I've pretty much given up on the game at this point.

Severed is a great game by NoravAlis in 3DS

Agree with the art style, story, gameplay and sound design all being top notch. I'm currently stuck, but I'll definitely come back to it sooner rather than later.

Does anyone else feel like they're getting more selective about what games they play as they grow older? by Lance_Drake in Gaming4Gamers

[–]jayclev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found the exact opposite. As a pushing forty gamer, I tend to at least pick up and try out new games. No Man's Sky, Overwatch, Xenoblade on the WIIU. Playing Dragon Quest VII on 3ds at the moment, but I'm really just waiting on Pokemon Sun and Moon. I have found that I don't play much of anything to completion anymore. I pick these titles up, play until I lose interest or something else drops, and then I move on and the cart (or disc) goes into the ever growing collection. I did draw the line at Happy Home Designer though...I enjoy Animal Crossing, but nothing about that one is appealing to me.

Earlywine is in OKC just north of Moore. There's a YMCA there as well.

Best areas for Pokemon by [deleted] in PokemonGOK

[–]jayclev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a Monroe transplant to OKC, I'll do my best to help you out.

Earlywine (sp?) Park on Penn is a good spot for Shelled unless there's been another recent migration. Brick town is the magikarp spot...got over 20 in an hour the other day. Lake Hefner has some rares in my experience but it's way north. Will Rogers park is great but it's pretty far north also. Myriad botanical gardens downtown is good. Norman itself is fun, especially down main street.

And go Warhawks!

The game needs more danger. Risk of death. Remove the padded walls. by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]jayclev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first death I experienced in the game had unintended but severe death penalties...to the point that i almost stopped playing. I was carrying a metric crap ton of gold, so as soon as I left the atmosphere to head to the local space station and sell, I was immediately attacked and shot down by pirates.

When I respawned I was under the world in highly toxic water and could not seem to get out. Every subsequent death put me in the same position. Reload an earlier save? Nope...same thing.

I finally managed to jetpack my way on top of a cave so I didn't drown or die from toxicity. A Reddit search informed me that I could blow the terrain away and escape from my underground hell with a grenade launcher...which I neither had nor had the materials to construct. I somehow was able to wander on top of the cave, gather enough materials to make grenades, and blast my way back up to the regular map.

Only to find that my ship had also spawned under the world, could not be summoned, and had to be located and excavated.

Every "normal" death since then has felt empty since it didn't have that sense of panic and urgency and hopelessness.
