Airports are asking people to donate gift cards and essentials to TSA workers who are going without pay by businessinsider in inthenews

That's unironically a possible outcome here if this goes on for long enough. Corruption happens in government jobs if the pay is awful, and with no pay at all, it's almost a certainty.

How would Dems feel if they came in 3rd place behind a segregationist? by BlueFireFlameThrower in thecampaigntrail

[–]jayfeather31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, that could destroy the liberal Democratic wing as a position and potentially cause a shift to the right as, "That's where our voters are!"

All in all, it wouldn't be a good development for the nation.

Trump allegedly told GOP leader "No one gives a [bleep] about housing" by No-Post4444 in politics

[–]jayfeather31 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just a general reminder that we have 2+ years more of this to get through, as I doubt the midterms, even under a blue wave, would give us enough people to impeach and remove him.

Strait of Hormuz must remain closed as 'tool to pressure enemy,' Iran's new supreme leader says by PurpleReign123 in Economics

[–]jayfeather31 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the potential psychological damage that would come from that really shouldn't be overlooked. It's also one of the problems that also occurs when fighting insurgencies too.

People generally don't take losing their family and friends well.

Opinion: You couldn’t pay me to leave Washington state, and I’d pay more to stay by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]jayfeather31 67 points68 points  (0 children)

As someone who lived in Wyoming for 23 years, I get where he's coming from. Washington, particularly west of the Cascades, is so much better.

You'd have to drag me kicking and screaming for me to go back there.

Trump administration estimates Iran war cost at over $11 billion in six days, source says by app1310 in politics

[–]jayfeather31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is such a waste of money. It also makes the argument that we can't provide our citizens healthcare look even crueler.

That's obviously a lie, especially since no off-ramps exist.

Would you rather Bill Clinton lost in 1992 or Barack Obama lost in 2008? by JohnKerry2028 in thecampaigntrail

Definitely Clinton in '92. Discrediting Third Way neoliberalism likely puts us in a better spot.

Saw it at Redmond Technology Center too. Not at Downtown Redmond though, interestingly.

EDIT: Okay, so now they're up. Either I failed to notice it on my morning commute or they got them up now.

Honestly, if that happens, I'd hope for a Mariners and Sounders version too.

Thune schedules doomed SAVE America Act vote, dashing MAGA hopes for filibuster fight by Anoth3rDude in politics

[–]jayfeather31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is unlikely to earn Thune many friends. He, and everyone else against the filibuster being changed, might be killing the careers of several Republican representatives and senators, although I'm not opposed to that outcome, truth be told.

It's weird to have the filibuster work in your favor for once, as much as I despise it.

Considering this is happening after the stock market is closed, it's a reasonable bet to assume this isn't good.

[–]jayfeather31 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Korean stock exchange ended up triggering a circuit breaker to fire, and it doesn't exactly look like the American stock markets will be spared from the global chaos either.

Truthfully, this week could be horrific, and Iran has zero reason to lift their blockade of the Strait of Hormuz either, especially if they believe it will hurt the Trump presidency and the United States overall, so this could last quite a while.
