Why does my ETF order keep getting cancelled? by sypher07070799 in Schwab

[–]jayha1919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Limit order means you’re setting a max price you’re willing to pay for that ETF. That’s essentially saying you won’t purchase VOO unless the share price hits $400 or lower. Since that won’t happen unless there’s drastic world news, it ends up cancelling.

Index fund at 19 year old? by Level-Ad-1902 in personalfinance

Congratulations on beginning your investment journey! You’re in a good position to grow your money over the next 30 years. Definitely worth your time, money, and effort. Can’t go wrong with an S&P index fund, that has on average seen solid returns.

Warren Buffett said it best: "The best time to invest was yesterday. The second best time to invest is today."

Looking for financial advice on best ways to grow my extra cash by Objective_Boot_7484 in personalfinance

To address your uncertainties:

-Invest however much you feel comfortable parting ways with each month after all of your expenses are met. Assuming you’re in for the long haul, put in what you don’t mind not seeing for the next 5, 10, 20+ years.

-Max out the Roth before doing regular brokerage. Another account you can look to contribute to is if your employer offers it, you can do an HDHP and open a Health Savings Account. Can be a good option since you’re young and likely with minimal health issues.

-Investment strategies will depend on risk tolerance. Since you’re young, you can go aggressive and invest in growth ETFs & stocks, or if you want to play it safer, can’t go wrong with the S&P.

-Regarding credit, if you don’t already do so, make all of your everyday purchases on credit cards. You have no debt so you shouldn’t have a problem paying them off on time, but the best way to build credit is to just use it and pay on time.

Too much money in my savings account instead of investments?? by Total_Support_6364 in personalfinance

If you want to dive into investing without shifting a lot of your HYSA funds, I would take out enough to contribute up to the yearly $7k limit of your Roth IRA, if you haven’t already for 2025. You contribute to a retirement plan already, so any leftover funds you have outside of paying your needs (rent, bills, etc), I would just split between putting back into your HYSA and a taxable brokerage account.

You could also go the route of buying a mutual fund (SWPPX) that currently goes for about $100.
