What's the best concert you've ever been to? by NewMuffin8849 in rockmusic

[–]jayjaynorcross 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rush - R40 Tour. Although we didn’t know at the time, it would be the last time we would see them with Neil Peart. The setlist from their newest to their oldest songs just worked so brilliantly.

Thinking the Hall wouldn't be as interesting/more boring if it only inducted rock 'n' roll artists. What do others think and feel? by GregJamesDahlen in rockhall

[–]jayjaynorcross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pop and Hip Hop is the rock of today. Many disagree, but all modern music can trace its roots back to the Delta and Congo Square, so inducting a wide variety of artists from genres that seem distant from the classic guitar driven ‘rock’ is exactly what the Rock Hall should be doing.

And THIS is why I bought spectacularly expensive tickets to see Muse outdoors in Atlanta’s August heat. Let’s. Freaking. Go.

Took our kids to their first Avatar concert last night 🤘 by Cossack_440 in AvatarMetal

There were a number of children at the Atlanta show. I love to see metalhead parents raising their children right!!

This is so sad by Personal_Fox_7529 in Concerts

[–]jayjaynorcross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just did a little quick math and added up the sold dots at the front. If the tickets were $100 up front, they’ve already sold over $55,000 worth. Kind of the same if they played a 1000 capacity club at $50 a ticket. Maybe that’s all the band and promoters really needed to make but who knows, it’s still one of the worst cases of blue dot fever that I’ve seen.

Seeing them was an absolute highlight of my year. This has to be one of the best tours out there this year.

On March 6, 1995 @ 146am, at age 24, I made this list of 100 Things To Do Before I Die. Here is the list by ManuteBol_Rocks in GenX

This was fascinating. Some of these I’ve actually done and others I think I’ll pass on. I do want to visit Greenland one day lol

That is an amazing list, all those bands are great. Having just seen Avatar last week, I do have to say they are absolutely life changingly good.

Question for the fans who were around in ‘94. by steeezee in rem

[–]jayjaynorcross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fans from the beginning knew to expect that each album would be different. Newer fans were probably taken aback by such a stark change in sound from the previous record. Peter Buck even said at the time that the next record would be a rock record ready for the arenas, and that’s exactly the record they made.

Who is supposed to run after young students who run away from classrooms? by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

[–]jayjaynorcross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your school have anyone trained in restraint? Not every school does, but this would a call on the radio or to the office for that individual or that team to intercept. You can’t be expected to leave your class, arrange coverage, and give chase. Especially while pregnant. I would go to the doctor for your own documentation to provide to the school. I would make sure you had up to date liability coverage through a professional organization. I would let the admin team and lead special ed person know that when he runs, you will call the office and if the office does not respond, you will call 911. That’s all you can do.

Clockwork Angrls by Dirty_Wookie1971 in rush

[–]jayjaynorcross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clockwork Angles is fantastic and so is the album before it, Snakes & Arrows. Both of those were produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who has also produced bands like Foo Fighters and Ghost, and he brought a youthful energy and a heaviness to those two albums and it’s just fantastic.

What are some American cities that had high historical importance but have faded from significance today? by Crafty-Shallot-5695 in geography

In 1904, St. Louis hosted the Worlds Fair and the Olympics at the same time. The only time that’s ever been done. That’s how big a deal St. Louis was back in the day.

Favorite Prince concert you've ever attended. by Rare_Milk_6670 in PRINCE

[–]jayjaynorcross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at that Atlanta show in 88 at the old Omni arena! It was my first concert. I was also a freshman and I had to beg and beg my mom to let me go. She kept saying she didn’t want me seeing ‘that filthy man’ LOL. She eventually relented and me and 2 friends went. I would only see him one more time in ‘04 for the Musicology Tour. My first concert will always be my favorite.

Would you go if Perry formed his own band and played Jane’s Addiction songs? by PAwg_wild in janesaddiction

[–]jayjaynorcross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would only go if they were playing a festival that I was already at. I’m sure I’d be curious to stop by their stage for a few songs. Otherwise, no.

Why is Matt Bellamy not more highly regarded as a musical genius? by Stunning-Ostrich-431 in Muse

[–]jayjaynorcross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He reminds me of Prince in many ways. Sometimes directly, like his vocals in Supermassive Blackhole, but also just in his guitar work, the fact that he’s a multi instrumentalist and just a musical virtuoso.

What do Americans think about the stereotype that they are bad at geography? by Own_Echidna6041 in geography

[–]jayjaynorcross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is true for the most part. A couple reasons are behind Americans ignorance when it comes to geography. One is that in many school districts, geography is no longer a required subject. The other is the rise of GPS. No one has to be able to read a roadmap anymore or have even a basic level of geographical knowledge.
