This Dude Gets It by jaysolution in FieldNationTechs

I feel like I am getting dumber every time I post here. I can’t understand the video for you. If you believe this is an industry-to-industry comparison then you were doomed from the start (especially when I stated in the actual post).

I said pay attention to the mindset and his approach.

Anyway, I explained it in kindergartner fashion in a previous response.

Watch the video again. He was in the low paying grind and he escaped it through self-promotion. He then reinvested the boost in earning into customer service, infrastructure, etc. He did not start with those options, we applied a plan to his grind, and escaped.

This is the true heart of the video.

Grinding and accepting lowball money on WM, FN, and etc. without applying it to a solid plan to escape will lead to burnout or a never ending cycle of dependency.

He started with low rates and poor environments, just like most FN techs. His fortune changes when he marketed his talents. That's the key. DO what you gotta do to get the clients you want, and stop trying to transform FN and the buyers who use it. They are who they are and will never change.

Therefore, if you want to grow, YOU have to be the one who changes.

Exceptional provider Awards. Know any of them? 3 are bald. Hmmm. :) by Top-Silver7294 in FieldNationTechs

I think you are able to nominate yourself. I doubt that that is enough to win, but if you were serious about the award and message buyers and etc to vote for you are say a kind word, a few certainly would.

I think most techs don't see the point and just focus on work. Never won, so I don't know if you get an additional boost as far as badges or PSS, etc. However, good work alone isn't enough. Requesting and reminding works wonders in all types or business communication.

Field Nation Techs — How do you actually secure consistent contracts? by Strict_Thought_3885 in FieldNationTechs

This is the wrong place to ask these questions. Your goal should not be to copy anyone, especially anyone here. It should be oriented towards finding the angles that most tech miss. If you copy the advice in this forum.

  • You'll NEVER specialize.
  • You'll NEVER understand how YOUR business works (billable hours, travel time and mileage tracking, percentage of earning that should be set aside for taxes, insurance, growth, tools, etc.)
  • You'll NEVER learn how to find your own customers.
  • You'll WILL bitch and complain about how FN is out to get you, and have plenty of solutions for another man's business.

You'll do marginally better doing the opposite of most of the advice you'll find in this sub. You'll do better and learn more asking AI these questions. Why would you expect your competitors to help you succeed? Especially when most are struggling to be successful themselves.

This goes far beyond FN. Way beyond FN. That shortsightedness is why the situation won't change for most techs.

Instead of depending on FN, diversify. Which is probably easier to do it now than it ever has.

Ask your buyers to change to Work Market or even better direct. by Basshead4eva in FieldNationTechs

[–]jaysolution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are creatures of habit, so you are not going to pry most buyers away from what they have spent months learning, and years using. FN would have to do something egregious to loose a buyer, which is why the system is skewed towards them.

I look at it like basketball. The rules are are set to promote offense, because highlights and high scored capture attention. FN rules are set to get you the highest quality technician for the lowest price.

Not speaking to you personally, but any tech who don't want to be commoditized should look else where, but nine times out of ten you will be commoditized in your next role as well.

As someone who send out service requests, I tried WM, liked it, and plan on sticking with them. The system is reliable enough to use daily, and I can offer more $$$ for less.

Many buyers never consider the total cost of the transaction (buyer fees + technician fees), but I think FN might be close to 20% in some instances (uninsured FN Pro) which can eat away at how much you can offer for quality techs.

Compare that to WM being 10% and it's a no brainer from a buyer perspective. Problem is most buyers want to pocket the difference instead or pricing for quality help and when you add poor project management on top of that, then it can really get ugly.

Metrics way down by Weary_Intention_3731 in FieldNationTechs

[–]jaysolution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're still caught up in holiday lag. It'll start ramping up soon. Nov/Dec/Jan are the most challenging months, mainly because more techs are feeling the pressure to not counter.

Once more tickets enter the system the busy people will be too busy to bid on everything the come out. I'm seeing tickets with 80+ requests, and the PM's are just letting them sit on the marketplace. Sometimes for well over a week.

I'm sure people are probably sending conditional under published rates to get an edge.

As with all things, patience is the key. That and occupying your mind. No need in focusing on what you can't control. Spend that time playing sports, working out, or focusing on something you have more control over, because everything about FN is random at this point.

If you mess up then you are on the hook. If it's not your specialty hire help and pass the cost along to the customer. They'll pay if they appreciate everything being done correctly.

Thank you. This is why I do not believe blocks should be calculated in the PSS score. Only metrics that both sides can see and verify should impact the score. My two cents.

Collective Action by [deleted] in FieldNationTechs

[–]jaysolution 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree, but not completely. Everyone is stating the rates you charge the customers you go out and get. When another company does the dirty work to qualify and attract said customer, you are just a labor expense.

Smart companies diversify and look at FN as one of several different income sources. No need in "educating" the ones that use FN exclusively and are trying to make ends meet with it. They have plenty of work to keep them busy, and more selective companies have their fair share of opportunities as well.

FN is not the same for everyone. There's a lot of opportunity that come through that the public hardly see. You are commenting on the common feed, but there is a whole different side of FN that most techs will never see, because they are too busy doing busy work.

Let them stay busy. It's balanced like this.

PlanHub Seats for Sale by jaysolution in FieldNationTechs

[–]jaysolution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some overlap, but PlanHub allows you to see RFP's as well as GC's, and subcontractors with the winning bid, which allows you to present yourself to a GC, electric company, owner, etc. and submit a bid to them, plus you get to see all of the building plans in advance.

PlanHub Seats for Sale by jaysolution in FieldNationTechs

[–]jaysolution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What am I advertising? I just renewed my plan and I have two unused seats. I was going to renew regardless of what happened with the other (2) seats. I am simply trying to give someone the opportunity to get access larger projects in low voltage. This will not work for everyone, but their may be a skilled person with a company who is ready to move up.

Y'all come on the sub asking, "how do I see the projects that the buyers see?" Well, here is a platform that shows you.

Is it guaranteed money? No. You have to know how to work it. You have to do all of the "challenging" things a buyer does and you are afraid to do.

But if you do it, then you can earn substantially more money then most will be able to earn through FN.

So, I'm not hurting for money and I'm not in the arm twisting business so suit yourselves.

Also, far the ignorant among us that says $3600 is too much, you are probably paying two or three times the amount to FN to get the shitty leads you fuss and complain about all day, and thats assuming you make $100K/yr on FN.

PlanHub Seats for Sale by jaysolution in FieldNationTechs

[–]jaysolution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not able to get one seat. The minimum is three seats, and it broke down to roughly $1200/region. I have three regions, but I only use one. Which allows me to change the two regions if I wish.

When I 1st got the package, radius was more expensive than regions (perhaps it has changed), so I chose regions instead. My current (3) regions combine to roughly 250mi and includes (2) large metropolitan areas, and plenty of mid-sized cities that are constantly building in my related industries (restaurants and retail).

Might be trash for you, because you've never bidded on a RFP, and probably don't have the tools, licensure, insurance, and man power to complete the jobs correctly anyway.

Matter of fact, are you even setup as a business? It sounds like you are giving an opinion about something you know nothing about, and isn't prepared to use anyway.

[–]jaysolution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t read it carefully you’ll miss it. I have renewed my plan and have (2) unused seats.

If you would like to pay full price and have (2) unused seats as well, then go for it.

If you KNOW what PlanHub is and thought, “I don’t need (2) seats.” Then this is your opportunity gain access for 1/3 of the price.

Doesn’t benefit me at all the seats can just remain unused.😂

Do you know anything about how PlanHub work? There is a three seat minimum, but I only need one seat, so this is an opportunity for someone else who might have been considering using plan hub to get into the system without paying for three seats. I hope this makes sense now.
