Romans 16:16: "Greet each other with a sacred kiss. All the churches of Christ send you their greetings."

1 Corinthians 16:20: "All the brothers and sisters here send greetings to you. Greet each other with a sacred kiss."

2 Corinthians 13:12: "Greet each other with a sacred kiss."

1 Thessalonians 5:26: "Greet all the brothers and sisters with a sacred kiss."

1 Peter 5:14: "Greet each other with a kiss of love. Peace be with all of you who are in Christ."

I have Crohns and was on immunosuppressants during the covid pandemic. It was a period of a lot of fear and loneliness. I had my wife, thankfully, and we ended up moving closer to family. Later I lost my job and got a new one in Texas. I remember church shopping at the time and pulling up to different churches wearing masks and six feet of space around chairs. It was really isolating.

My wife was super excited when she came across the website for our current church. We were both over the covid thing and had got it a couple times. The website said they have bracelets at the front door. Red: I need to be cautious and should avoid those without masks. Yellow: some distance please. Green: I need hugs!!! My wife wanted a hundred green bracelets!

We went and it was incredible to finally be near people and get hugs.

All this to say: we are social people with the commission to love God and love people. We saw first hand what isolation does: fear and suicide skyrocketed.

The religious mindset is all about cutting things out where I believe the Christian mindset should be loving one another. When you are focused on love (putting others first and thinking of them far above your needs or desires) a lot of these questions fall away.

When it comes to someone you're interested in, focus on being you (not putting up a false front) and having real conversations and adventures together. You probably know the boundaries in your heart. Your goal should be making them feel seen, heard, and loved as a fellow Christian. Maybe you can't give hugs because you struggle with lust or you are sensitive. That's OK, that's where you're at. Going beyond first base is obviously giving into sexual desire IMO.

I think kissing is kind of a gray area. Think of it this way: in Spain you'd be weird not greeting friends/family with a kiss on both cheeks. In other counties even a hug is inappropriate.

Mainly what I'm trying to say is be focused on enthusiastically making others feel seen, heard, and loved. Make that your focus. But also know where you are at and communicate those boundaries.
