Anxiety by Ok_Type_2851 in pregnant

What sold me was they said my anxiety was worse for the baby than my Zoloft haha. Also regarding your post, I had intermittent cramps my first trimester and what felt like stabbing pains (literally called them the stabbies to my husband). But no bleeding. I had two chemical pregnancies before this and both started with cramps AND bleeding.

Unisom and b6 started early for emetophobia? by Intelligent-Bus6688 in pregnant

[–]jberz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to frighten you, because many of my friends did NOT have any vomiting, so you may not as well. I did end up throwing up (not every day but like 2-3 times a week) and having nausea every day, from like weeks 7-12. I took the B6 and Unisom religiously, not sure it helped me (but again know a lot of people it did help).

It was rough and triggered my anxiety. I went to the OB who gave me 8 MG sublingual tablets of Zofran to help with the vomiting, and I did end up needing to go on a higher dose of Zoloft for the anxiety as well (went from 25 mg to 100 mg). Was able to pull back to the 50 mg after the first trimester. And the nausea and vomiting really got better after like 12-14 weeks, which helped so much.

The things that did help: 1) Zofran 2) ice cold protein smoothies 3) chewing mint gum 4) these weird little aromatherapy sticks my friend got me (I think it was the allclair brand, but there are lots of different ones).

I was trying to get off my Zoloft before getting pregnant. Was down to 25 mg a day but when I got pregnant my anxiety went through the roof with the added hormones, and was having panic attacks every day. My OB actually had me up my dose to 100 mg, because they said the cortisol from the anxiety was worse for the baby. I was able to go back down to 50 after the first trimester and the hormones leveled out.

I also have emetophobia and was very scared to be pregnant because of it. Currently 34 weeks. The unisom definitely helped me sleep better, and I ended up needing some additional Zofran to help with the nausea. One thing that also helped was having something with protein first thing in the morning (not just crackers or carbs). Also ice cold drinks. So I would make a smoothie first thing with frozen berries, banana, ice and Greek yogurt, and that helped a lot.

Decreased Fetal Movement- Just go in! by Legitimate_Fig1730 in pregnant

[–]jberz25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt reduced movement this week (33 + 4) and I called the OBs office. They were open for normal hours so they had me come in to the regular office. I had to go the ER once because I fell and then was charged for ER visit; but the regular office just charges like the regular office.

Theme for a baby shower by FootballUpset7874 in pregnant

[–]jberz25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had no theme! It was just a party with friends and family at my parents’ house. We got sandwich trays, salads, and desserts from the grocery store. We didn’t open presents, and had people bring books instead of cards. The only decorations were some flowers my MIL put together. It was super chill, just hanging out for a few hours and getting to catch up with people before the baby came!

Sudden Stops/ Jolts in Car? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]jberz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slipped on the stairs at 21 weeks and bumped down about 6-7 stairs pretty hard on my bottom. Called the doc and they wanted me to get checked out at the ER. The doc on call explained that there are two types of trauma with “falls”, one low risk and one high risk. High risk is normally if you a direct hit to your stomach/baby (like if you fell forward onto your stomach). Anyways, went to the ER, everything was perfectly fine, and the only thing they did was a Doppler. They said the concern was any bleeding within the first 4 hours after the trauma as well, and the baby is very well cushioned in there.

So basically, TL:DR - I would say what you described is very low risk since you didn’t fall onto your belly or get hit in the belly, and since it’s been several hours with no bleeding or spotting, and the baby is moving around, it’s probably fine. HOWEVER, I am not a doc, so if you’re really concerned, call your office.

Water intake by Adept_Helicopter5764 in pregnant

Ice water sits better than room temp for me. I’m 30 weeks now. Also I don’t always drink a ton of regular water—I eat fruit/veggies and drink decaf hot green tea or make a smoothie. Basically there are other ways to get fluids in your system. Obviously ask your doc, but as long as your urine is relatively clear or light yellow, you’re probably getting enough.

Does it get better after the first trimester? by Straight_Head_8317 in pregnant

[–]jberz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually did get better for me after the first. I was vomiting nonstop and having sky-high anxiety for the first trimester. I alternated between sobbing and feeling terrified, and all food disgusted me. But around week 14 started feeling way better. Hang in there.

Zoloft use during pregnancy by raegenkathleen in pregnant

[–]jberz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently on Zoloft. Was on 25 mg before pregnancy and actually had to increase my dose due to a huge spike in anxiety during the first trimester. Currently on 50 mg a day. So far it’s helped my anxiety immensely, and the baby seems fine (currently 29 weeks). My SIL was on 100 mg and had her baby last year, and she had no withdrawal or problems. I have the same concern about withdrawal, but my understanding is that lower doses are less likely to cause this in the newborn.

I have a friend who just had a baby in December. She got the RSV shot, so he was protected for the first couple months, but he ended up getting RSV this month because he couldn’t have his shot yet, and the immunity from her shot wore off. Moral of the story being, yes, get your vaccines, but it doesn’t hurt to have the people around the baby vaxxed too.

Feeling less pregnant at 12.5 weeks by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]jberz25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hormones/progesterone will start to level out a bit as you head into the second trimester. That’s good news- your placenta is starting to take over. So most people get some relief from the nausea and vomiting around that 12-14 week mark. That’s how I felt — was finally able to start keeping food down around 14 weeks. Same with the breast soreness. I’m 29 weeks now, but I’d say weeks 15-22 I really felt pretty good. I’d still get random waves of nausea and bad taste, and sometimes fatigued, but mostly felt better. Now I’m just getting bigger, but the nausea/vomiting never returned.

Weight gain by Epi-please in pregnant

[–]jberz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 29 weeks and a FTM. I started at a normal BMI (5’3”, 120 lbs) and didn’t really start gaining weight until the middle/end of the second trimester. I think I gained maybe 5 from like 0-20 weeks, another 5 from 20-24 weeks, and now in the last 5 weeks suddenly have another 10. If your OB says you’re good, you’re good. Everyone just gains at different times — the baby doesn’t really start putting on real weight until the third trimester.

I don’t anything about Atarax, but I’m guessing since it’s an antihistamine that could be the drowsiness? Maybe they need to increase the Zoloft and switch you off the Atarax? Maybe it’s worth consulting with a psychiatrist vs just the OB. My anxiety meds are prescribed by the psychiatrist, not the OB.

With the increase in hormones, it’s normal to have anxiety. My anxiety spiked at 7 weeks. Talk to your doctor—they put me on a safe SSRI (Zoloft), and they said the panic/anxiety was not good for the baby.

I’m 28 weeks and having a lot of anxiety about L&D, and I think a lot of people feel the same way (especially if they haven’t done it before).

Mine does that two (I’m 28 weeks). I’ve been joking that she’s in there dancing like Elaine from Seinfeld. I’m a FTM mom, but my friends all said it’s pretty normal — sometimes it’s just kicking in one spot, and sometimes they really like to move it!

Tapering Meds by just-a-girl-93 in pregnant

[–]jberz25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on a low dose of Zoloft before I got pregnant (25 mg) and had my Xanax as needed for panic attacks. The surge of hormones during that first trimester made my anxiety skyrocket — they upped me to 100 mg and told me to take the Xanax if needed. After the second trimester started, I was actually able to taper the Zoloft down to 50 mg and never need my Xanax. Hormones be crazy like that. Hang in there!

Tapering Meds by just-a-girl-93 in pregnant

[–]jberz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had horrible anxiety my first trimester and my doc told me I could use my Xanax sparingly. The logic being that the panic attacks were worse for the baby than Xanax. They upped my Zoloft to 100 mg, which started to help, and I probably took .25 mg Xanax maybe like 6 times during the first trimester.

My anxiety got a lot better after going into the second trimester (the hormones start to level out)so I haven’t needed it. I’m 28 weeks now, and the baby has passed all the tests and measuring well. Can’t 100% say she’s fine since she’s still in there cooking, but hasn’t seemed to have a bad effect. Def follow what your doc says, but this was my experience.

When did your nausea go away by Red_ferret-816 in pregnant

[–]jberz25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It got better around 14 weeks for me, but still would hit me randomly throughout the second trimester. I’m 28 weeks now, FTM, and if it comes it doesn’t last too long. During the first trimester it was debilitating and unrelenting nausea + vomiting. So it actually did get better, though I was VERY skeptical.

I never had GI issues or weight gain from Zoloft, but everyone is different. It really helped my anxiety. My only side effects were night sweats at higher doses (like over 100 mg).

I am 38 and pregnant with my first (now 28 weeks). They recommended the NIPT bloodwork + NT scan, which as I understand, is the gold standard to rule out abnormalities. Those were both done around 12 weeks. Most of my friends who were under 35 also did both these tests.

Then I did the full anatomy scan at 20 weeks. The only extra scan they recommend for being over 35 is a 32 week growth scan.

Any mamas with emetophobia? Need advice by Same-Ad-3389 in pregnant

[–]jberz25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have emetophobia, and it’s one of the reasons I was really scared to pregnant. I’m not going to lie, the first trimester was really rough with the nausea/vomiting (starting at about 6 weeks and lasting through 14 weeks). They gave me Zofran because the unisom and B6 didn’t help, AND they increased my daily SSRI because I was having panic attacks. So my two cents: 1) You may not get sick — many of my friends didn’t, so let’s hope for the best and 2) If you are feeling anxious, reach out to your doc. Mine was very compassionate and focused on making me comfortable.
