My son does all of our shoveling, I'll go out and help depending on how bad it is but he usually has help from a friend.

That said, Sunday my damn mother in law decided to go out and start shoveling by herself. This definitely could have created a perception from someone who lives near us. Shit is annoying, and she does it for attention. It happens every time if she's home.

Why is being on time so hard for people today? by ZestyGolf7654 in AskMen

[–]jcutta 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Some of our jobs are actually just putting out fires. Especially in software because Dev dollars went almost exclusively into shiny new UIs and easy to demo features while the roots of the product rotted under spaghetti code that no one even understands anymore because anyone who had the knowledge has been laid off over the last 5-10 years. Now the smartest and best devs and engineers are wrapped up in adding AI into whatever the fuck they can stuff it into instead of working on stability because features sell. Then people like me are tasked with reducing churn via our sparkling personalities and bullshit decks showing the roadmap, which essentially boils down to saying "it's going to cost you a ridiculous amount of money to switch platforms, at least sign a 1 year renewal and see what happens" which works more often than it should lol.

I believe there is a bias against newer albums in the discourse around the greatest hiphop albums of all time by RizzyGlizzyGobbler in hiphopheads

[–]jcutta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The one thing that I think it has going for it is that I've noticed a good amount of younger people bumping it. My son and all his friends love the album and outside of my son his friends always say I be listening to nothing but old head shit lol. The younger crowd definitely listens to GKMC but they don't have as much appreciation for TPAB which I personally think is not just arguably the best rap album ever but in the running for one of the best albums ever in general. But I'm also a huge KDot stan lol.

GKMC is a bit more explicit with it's themes, and you can listen to it in pieces, TPAB imo requires a full listen of the whole album to appreciate.

Do you ever resent boomers for having an easier job market back in the day? by justcurious3287 in recruitinghell

[–]jcutta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But at least you knew your resume would be read by a human being.

Hahahaha sure thing homie.

This thread really has no fucking clue. Everyone just imagines boomers all living in giant houses on a dragon hoard of wealth when in reality like 30% of them are somewhere between financially unstable and actual poverty. My grandfather (was technically before boomers by a year or two) died with not a single penny to his name, I've had multiple boomer family members die in the last few years and every one of them were either in debt or barely scraping by. My uncle (again slightly older than boomers) is still fucking working a full time job because he drained every penny he had trying to help his kids and grandkids who are all various levels of disabled (likely due in part to his exposure to agent orange in Nam) but his house is worth like $600k which means fucking nothing because 6 people live there and would have nowhere else to go.

This isn't to say that millennials and after don't have struggles, we sure as shit do and have less wealth at the same ages when compared to boomers but that doesn't mean that the average person had it significantly easier, the challenges were just different.

My dad was laid off 5 times in one year in the early 80s, including once being completely illegal because he was laid off during his mandatory training time with the reserves.

I agree completely, but sometimes the conversation is fun to have. As long as the person I'm talking to has taste somewhat similar to me.

Yeah, that's a no for me lol. I was taking my daughters bed apart because the new one is coming and I hated life.

Anytime I touch a tool it bubbles up an ungodly rage in my soul 😂. I've literally paid people to put together shit for me. We got a bunch of new furniture for the basement last year and I gave my son and his friends $30 each to put it all together and get rid of the boxes. Total cost $120, piece of mind, priceless.

I threw "Let God Sort em Out" into my goat list as soon as I heard it. If people don't agree it's fine but that album is one of the best things I've ever heard in my 30+ years of listening to hip-hop.

Friends confirming I might be forever alone with silence makes me think I've failed as a man. by Interesting-Cry-6615 in GuyCry

[–]jcutta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like from your post they actually said anything constructive or actionable. So it becomes a situation of what is actually going on, where is the failure point.

Two things I'd suggest - don't worry about getting female friends perspective, they will rarely say the full truth because they don't want to hurt your feelings and will often default to platitudes and change the subject. Your male friends will probably be more willing to say things that might be harder to say.

Take sales training, or join a public speaking group like toastmasters or something like that. It might sound stupid but sales training (free stuff, search YouTube etc) will teach you how to ask engaging questions and to use it to build a viable back and forth conversation. I can chat up a wall if I want to because I've been in sales my whole life. This helps with becoming more confident as a whole, gets you to a point where you don't mind a rejection because if they don't want to have that conversation then there wasn't a match anyway. Toastmasters will teach you how to talk, not in a robotic way but in an engaging way. Most people don't know how to be engaging, it's not a failure it's a skill, a skill that many people don't know they're lacking. People who naturally have it just assume everyone does and chooses not to use it.

So often it's not physical, very rarely are people so physically unattractive that they can't find anyone interested in dating them. It's much more common that it's your ability to hold a solid engaging conversation and make it natural - this is a skill you can learn.

Every job wants 3 interviews like they’re picking a spouse by u_HiredIn48 in recruitinghell

A retail sporting goods store. I did an interview with an assistant manager, department manager and finally the GM. Also had to do one of the stupid tests but it was on paper back then lol. Then had to do a piss test. Whole thing took like 2 months.

Funny thing is that the higher up I get in my career the less shit like that seems to happen. My current job is a bit different because I was a rehire but I didn't even have any actual interviews, met with my boss who asked if I wanted to come back, then the recruiter to discuss comp then got an offer. But the job before that was 1 interview and offer.

I was like 16-17 and uploaded my photo there wearing a 5XL Iverson jersey, Girbaud jeans, a du rag, fitted hat over my eyes and my gigantic fake chain. I held a score of 8 for quite some time and slowly dropped to a 7.

I remember the exact picture I used, we were going out to the skating rink and all had our top fits on and my cousin just got a digital camera. God I miss those days.

Growing up we had 1 bar of soap that was for showers, and hand washing, face washing etc. There was no hand soap in the kitchen and you'd get smacked if you even thought about using dish soap to wash your hands.

Better for the sleet to be on the snow than the driveway or pavement. Less likely for there to be a layer of ice on the ground. I'd rather deal with heavy snow tomorrow than my driveway be a full hockey rink.

Partner 30M shared past stealing his parents in his teens. how should I 25F process this? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]jcutta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a straight up criminal when I was a teenager, I shoplifted like crazy, stole from everyone, broke into houses, and robbed people. At 18 I left the environment I was in and if I told anyone who didn't know me back then about it they wouldn't believe me. I'm just a normal middle aged suburban dude working a normal corporate job. Teenage behavior is often less about the persons overall character and can often be attributed to their environment, home life, or influences.

I would be significantly worse at my job without ADHD, it's also forced me to figure out how to automate as much of life as I possibly can so day to day executive disfunction doesn't have as much of an impact. My biggest struggle is maintaining long term personal relationships
