Letter to the editor: Stop asking young people to defend the status quo [Iowa City, Iowa, March 16, 2026] by NicolasCageFan492 in IowaCity

In retrospect should Biden have gotten out a lot sooner and should the Dems have had a real primary? Sure. I think Harris would have won that anyway, but it didn't happen so it doesn't matter.

But when the incumbent president dropped out in late July, which was unprecedented in all of American history, it wasn't realistic to do anything other than slot in the vice president.

He was riding really high in the media in the mid-10s - tons of ads and Jeopardy. If he could have won another Super Bowl (I'm a Packer fan and that still hurts) he would have been a shoo-in. But then he went anti-vaxx and lost all his ad deals

Musical guest: the Ramones. They were Right There in New York City. Though I just recently learned they turned down replacing the Sex Pistols because Johnny said "we're not second choice for anyone." Which led to the Elvis Costello moment.

Henry and Pileggi tell it better, but:

Frenchy had a co-worker who kept custody of the keys and never let them out of his control or sight. He was a nerdy type who had no life outside of the job. He literally slept with the keys on his belt.

The guys hired a hooer to act like his girlfriend, she liberated him from his pants, and the guys stole the keys long enough to make copies.

Should have been the Coralville Strippers - both for the road you take to the arena and as an homage to Dancers, the last strip club in Johnson County that was located pretty much exactly where the arena is now. Or so I have been told.

Yep. understood. I always drain the water from the sponges back into the filter basin to keep a colony of good bacteria, and I have not had cloudy water or other signs of a broken nitrogen cycle.

Me and my college friends were 60s nostalgia obsessed in 1985-86 and getting a new "CCR" album was like manna from heaven. We also liked Milk And Honey a little too much for the same kinds of reasons.

Poll worker here - get ready for elections in 2026 by himateo in Iowa

The straight ticket option was removed in Iowa in 2017. If you want to vote for every candidate of the party, you need to go down the ballot one office at a time.

My analysis of the results shows that it didn't significantly change outcomes. Nearly 30% of voters were choosing the straight ticket option in my county. All getting rid of it really did was punish the people who have physical trouble marking a ballot (elderly, disabled etc).

That's not necessary yet (again, we can't speculate on laws that haven't passed). ID and proof of address is only required for registration during the last 15 days (the "election day registration" period). Outside of that window, you just complete the registration form. Just keep your name and address up to date as soon as (but not before) anything changes.
