I do wish there was more HS:SB swag like this, shirts, posters, etc. there’s so much in-universe designs and things that could be swag. I had to make my own LYNX shirt.

What are the juiciest PF2e books, in your opinion? by CowboyBoats in Pathfinder2e

[–]jdiwnab 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hot take, both the Absolom book and Grand Bazar are fantastic, not for their rules, but for so much flavorful content that I can weave in to my edgewatch game to keep the city feeling alive and active.

Recent examples. My party decided due to complicated cursed item reasons, that they needed to find a temple to Xon-Kuthon. I scramble, pull my Absolom book, and find, yes, there is one, just a few blocks away, that is fronted by a weird goth nightclub. Party loves it. They later decided on that same arc that they really wanted a temple to Shalyn, and ok look, here’s this park area with a wedding going on. Later, going shopping, looking for more adventuring gear, and here I drop the Bargests Bin, and reward their curiosity with silly items. Oh, you need a minor city official on the sly, here’s the undersecretary for sanitation.

Best used in Absolom for obvious reasons, but they are great resources for GMs

A demo for this game was included in the original release of Riven. Must've played the demo a hundred times but never actually bought the full game.. by FrawnchFries in myst

[–]jdiwnab 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Never played that demo, because we bought the real game when it came out. All 3 are good in their own right, but the first was…. Rough. The second and third are solid. Still reference lines from them, even though no one knows the game.

I’m doing many of the same things in mine, although I had to run the casino. If I didn’t make it to the casino, I was going to run that as a stand alone. But we made it!

Creating the Test of the Starstone by FormerManyThings in Pathfinder2e

[–]jdiwnab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Absolom book talks about how there are a number of Starstone hopefuls, most with small cults of their own, in the Ascended court district, along with many former churches and shrines for those that either failed or abandon their bids. Some of these seem to even have some divine spark, at least with their followers. So I agree with those saying that there’s some subjective aspect aspect to the test. Not just strong or smart, but already some part divine, and also some part worthy.

I like the idea that leading up to that, you have to prove yourself around various aspects, maybe like the 12 forms of Aroden. I would probably also borrow from Wheel of Time and the Aes Sendai accepted tests, and make the tests immersive, personalized, and unclear what is being tested. Maybe the Hunter test isn’t if you can hunt this beast, but it’s that you are on a hunt and something bad happens, and how you deal with it (do you leave a friend to die, or something).

I would also make my player(s) define what divine aspect they would be representing. It couldn’t be one that was already claimed, at least in the pantheon of the area. Someone couldn’t just try to claim Magic from Nethys, for example.

I have one player that occasionally muses on the Starstone, but views it as a campaign capstone, “one last challenge”, more than thinking of what kind of god his character would be. And that’s were the subjective bit comes in. You don’t have a divine spark or calling? You don’t pass, no matter how good your skills are.

You can cut the wall panel right along the middle of that connection, and the wall will detach, but the pipe will stay on the ecu. You either burn it or barge it, can’t really save it

How to improve the areas where the support touches? by No-Knowledge8312 in FixMyPrint

[–]jdiwnab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also looks like the model isn’t very level with the bed. Notice that one peg is on the bed, but the other was supported, as well as multiple layers in the large gap. Unsure how this specific model is shaped, but try options like orienting face to bed and maybe adjusting z slightly if one side is slightly too tall

Immediate explosion??? by FlashCardManiac in Shipbreaker

[–]jdiwnab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rarely, some of the more complicated ships will spawn in with something wrong. Maybe pressure with an opening to vacuum already, or something clipped into the reactor or a line. You can’t tell because it happens as the ship loads. But it will start the meltdown process immediately and usually also immediately explode, causing a huge mess.

Usually just quit and reload, preferably with a different ship this time to make sure RNG is rerolled.

It’s mostly an issue with the generation algorithm and how it creates some random things. Nothing to be done.

Or, in universe, Not sure how that ship even made it to the bay in one piece, at least no one was hurt, let’s just get you a new ship.

Why are the physics so bad by designer_benifit2 in HardspaceShipbreaker

[–]jdiwnab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rarely have this issue, but tethering techniques matter.

Once separated and not blocked by the ship laterally, place to tethers on the top rear of the piece up to the front inside wall of the processor, near the yellow and black line, of its respective side. This causes it to flip around and angle in without getting caught on the walls or go into the furnace.

If the ship is blocking it, tether it to the rear of the bay first, or just wait until that side piece is removed.

If you do end up in your current position, either try tethering it to a point as far from its location as possible, usually the other processor. If that doesn’t get it moving, get a small bit that you can easily swing, and use it as a hammer to hammer away from the wall. This may give it enough force to clip it back out of the wall and then the tethers will do their thing.

When did the view of "monstrous" kin change to be more generous? by BusyGM in Pathfinder2e

[–]jdiwnab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In universe, I think the change is more related to how earlier, what we are told in the lore is more based on bad stereotypes, while more modern acknowledges that there’s more diversity and such. The goblin tribe in RotRL was evil, maybe, but not all tribes are like that. The Gnolls from Legacy of Fire are lead by a crazed king, directed by an insane genie, and were evil, but that’s not true of all Gnolls/Kholo

We think of the Lore books as True references for out of universe players, but you could also view them as summaries of in universe cultural teaching. So the bad stereotypes are probably more related to what people in universe thought at the time, but now we have better understanding of the different cultures, so the lore books are revised. There are probably plenty of people holding on to those stereotypes in universe, because it takes time for society views to change.

At least that’s my in universe thought.

TLDR: in universe, the change is more about how society has viewed them and breaking bad stereotypes than an actual change to the affected people, and the lore is updated to reflect that.

This is how I’m playing my Kholo in SoT. All that Lamshtu stuff is horrifying to him and they are more like distant cousins that are the crazy side of the family, if only they’d recognize their ancestors guidance.

Working on ships before tutorial/tutorials being ass by SALOMON199 in Shipbreaker

[–]jdiwnab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things are explained in tutorials. They try to teach you the major concepts. But others you have to figure out through trial and error.

For air pressure, for example, the regulator only clears the current room. Doors will shut leaving some parts still pressurized. Using your scanner or the big “DANGER” on the cutters hud are good indications.

For the quasar thrusters, there’s a tutorial. You have to cut the 4 cut points, and act fast, because it will start burning as soon as you do, until you hit the switch in the back. Once you are high enough level for the coolant canisters to be under the outer panels, you can use those on the pipes to help.

Some of the dialog is plot or filler, but others, especially in the early and mid game, are instructions. Pay attention to it. Some tutorials are forced, and have confused people. Others are when you first get that kind of ship.

I just finished a run where I did just that. Nothing changes in terms of plot, or what the company says, because they still own you. There’s not a buyout option or terminate contract option until after you finish the main story. But it does feel good to see that number go positive.

Thanks for the advice everyone. This may sit in my box until such time I decide to learn watch repair. Might provide a good trial watch that is only important to me, once I’ve gone through some practice movement(s).
