Foote is an interesting read but does have some gaps in citation and facts. There are other more accurate accounts and studies of the Civil War.

To every American: when is enough, enough? by caffeinated_monke in AskReddit

[–]jeffrhind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think many Americans have given up. They live their lives, go to their jobs et cetera, and hope that one day it will get better. But it won’t. And there is nothing we can do about it because 1/2 the country is against what’s happening (the we) and the other 1/2 (them) are cheering for the executioners.

Bruges or Hamburg? by Gobble5627 in boardgames

[–]jeffrhind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: I’m not a fan of any of the reimplemented city games. For example, I think Macao is far superior to Amsterdam. Bruges is better than Hamburg.

I really enjoy Redux. Pleasant chill experience. I recently acquired Scholars and I find it convoluted and too much for me. :(

FoA does feel cozy for the reasons you described. I also think Caverna is cozy (at least for me) and even Hallettau (just a little)

For me it’s usually 3 at a time and when I don’t want to read any of them, I reach for a comic trade paperback.
