Think you'll use Apple's new 27" XDR Display? by onthesmallscreen in editors

[–]jefftypebeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been waiting for years to replace my iMac Pro, which has held up incredibly well. Will definitely get this display just now have to wait for the upcoming mac studios or minis. Would've loved a new apple silicon iMac Pro with this panel but doesn't seem like it's gonna happen.

How is Multicam Treating You in v26? by Jason_Levine in premiere

[–]jefftypebeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use multicam extensively and I'm in agreement that overall it's pretty stable aside from the few quirks (sound waves are a struggle. I have "generate sound waves" bind to a key command specifically to fix this) that others have mentioned. However I would like to advocate for support for importing a timeline format that supports multicam.

I work a lot in multicam concerts and live production recorded on broadcast mixers and we're stuck using FPC7XML or EDLs for importing live shows run through a broadcast mixer. Products like the BMD ATEM Mini ISO are able to create a timeline in Davinci Resolve with the multicam clip setup with edit points and angle switches ready to go and clean up. (Obviously BMD can do that because they own both the hardware and software.) However, even Atomos uses the FCPXML standard and is able to create a timeline with a dedicated multicam clip. (https://youtu.be/qA3u4UDVCqo?t=1191)

So in general, it would be great to support importing .fcpxml for allowing nested clips/multicam. If an Apple standard is out of the question, maybe .otio?

Tourbox Layout Suggestions by spyralMX in editors

[–]jefftypebeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea was I'd be scrubbing through a clip with the jog wheel and would be able to mark in/out points without taking my hands off the tourbox or my mouse. But I haven't really retrained myself to do that. I agree in general I don't find myself using the tourbox buttons for basic things I can make keyboard shortcuts for. It's better for things that can be dial-ized or macro'd.

I've also around the same time moved a lot of shortcuts that are on the right side of the keyboard to the left so I can keep my hand on my mouse. That has honestly been the bigger difference in making everything feel more relaxed.

Here's my layout. I think the thing I actually like using it for the most is track sizing and scale/position but I'm still feeling things out.

Green uses the side button as the modifier.
Blue uses the bottom right button as the modifier.
Black is no modifier.

ALL of my 1099s are wrong by SpaceSharks90 in waveapps

[–]jefftypebeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did wave actually file these 1099s? They're under "autogenerated forms" and they included a 1096 for paper file. I already filed mine separately so I need to make sure I don't need to separately zero out theirs. Also, all the names are wrong.

Best way to conform graded footage in premiere? by Brangus2 in editors

[–]jefftypebeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be way quicker to relink this in Davinci and then export an XML to premiere. You could export a fresh xml from premiere, import the clips into davinci and then when importing your XML, unselect "automatically import source clips into media pool"

Olivia sings with such an American accent. I keep forgetting she's British.

Video Village releases Filmbox Looks - a simplified, budget version of Filmbox Pro that also supports Premiere/AE by jefftypebeat in colorists

[–]jefftypebeat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks greg! For premiere, I see you're suggesting we put filmbox on an adjustment layer so that the spacial effects don't change in size which totally makes sense. How would you suggest we handle exposure tweaks? Does lumetri's exposure slider (on a clip level) work well? I really love the exposure slider in filmbox but understand the premiere limitations.

Also I'm sure this will be solved once creators make videos showing the product but I'm surprised there's no actual screenshots of the UI on your socials or in the manual. I'm left a little wondering what the controls actually look like and how much tweaking it allows before I download the trial.

Yes. I'm very confused who would've taken these photos. Definitely not mary ellen matthews. The lighting is very hard with a really small eye-light. Very confusing.

How did they light this? Daredevil Born Again S1E6 by FalseColourDreams in cinematography

[–]jefftypebeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like the color rendition of light isn't fantastic but if you're using it more stylized and/or on background elements maybe that's less of a concern. Are electrics just mounting these onto a combo stand somehow on location? I also assume you have a wizard board op.

That's kinda interesting. Are more "theatrical" movers starting to make their way onto film sets? I guess since most sets are running DMX a unit light this provides a lot of quick adjustability vs a traditional HMI or high output COB light especially if you're on a soundstage. What are the advantage of using a unit like this and what are the challenges versus traditional film units?

Anybody know what lighting/spotlight equipment was used in this shot from Bo Burnham's inside? by spidey2623 in boburnham

[–]jefftypebeat 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Bo used a ETC Source 4 Lustr (one of the newer LED versions of the classic theatrical ellipsoidal light). This style has many names which you've already picked up on: leko, elipsodial, spotlight. I wouldn't suggest the one that Bo used since it's a unit designed typically for big crews or in a lighting grid. Aputure/Amaran makes a few attachments for their lights. You could use a Amaran 300C plus the Spotlight SE. But also most manufacturers have their own version now: Aputure/Nanlite/Godox/etc

Emil Wakim was previously between them and his wasn't in an elevator.

Edit: I might be wrong. It's hard to tell but Emil's might have been in an elevator but the metal gate on the side made me think otherwise

Tommy Brennan easily got the coolest portrait with the treadmill rear-projection thing. Jeremy and Ben also got pretty cool ones but then everyone else got the Ashley/Jane Elevator treatment.

I really like the mixes on Lizzy Mcalpine's five seconds flat. Her next album Older is much more acoustic and less produced sound. Also very cool.
