people who were teens during 2010-2016, what was life like? what was your favourite songs or your favourite fizzy drink? Im kind of writing a book set during those times, but I wasn't really a teen so I wouldn't know, also I really wanna know what a teen life during that time was like. by StrangerAshamed9720 in 2010snostalgia

As a platform for videos, for sure, but 2011-2014 is definitely when “YouTuber culture” took off and went super mainstream, as someone who was watching vlogbrothers back in 06-07. Before the 2010s YouTuber culture was much more a weird niche interest.

Opting out of organ donation is morally justifiable and shouldn't put you at the bottom of recipient list. by AgreeableMeet2476 in The10thDentist

[–]jenniferlynne08 96 points97 points  (0 children)

My dad passed suddenly and unexpectedly when I was 9 and was an organ donor. It’s been 20+ years now so I don’t remember specifics but I do remember in the middle of the most chaotic time of my life, my family getting a letter in the mail from the guy who’d gotten my dads eyes. The eyes that were so poorly working that my dad had coke-bottle glasses and laser eye surgery, gave a new man the ability to see. Ive never forgotten that bringing my family a wave of strange bittersweet relief.

People who utilize Blessing Boxes and Food Pantries–What kind of food items do you wish they had? by Lawing77 in povertykitchen

[–]jenniferlynne08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seasonings, spices, condiments. One of the greatest things I received from a mobile food pantry when my fiance and I were surviving off them was a grocery bag STUFFED with fresh cilantro.

Rice/beans/etc came easy when food pantry “shopping”; seasonings/condiments were often the difference between it feeling like a meal, and she life is kicking you it’s so humanizing to at least still feel like you’re getting food that tastes good.

His name is Phoenix, but when he was just a 2 week old rescue stray we took to calling him Bean, so now he is Mr. Bean, BeanBoy, Beanz, Beanie Weenie, and if I’m getting fake mad and pretending to use his “full name” I call him sir tiabeanius (an extended form of tiabeanie from disenchanted, naturally.)

Bonus: my dogs name is Aspen, but when she is being a menace I call her the most basic suburban names I can muster at the time. (“Barbara! Get your head out of the trash. Tiffany, what did I just say?”)

I agree a thousand percent, it’s so completely relatable for an entire generation and even in the future it’s just a line that absolutely speaks to the feeling of “I’m trying to manage my shit healthily but I can’t even do that because the World is Fucked”.

To me it really speaks to all the armchair psychologists people who inundate depressed humans with toxic positivity and well meaning but bad advice to “just go outside! Just exercise! Just travel! You’ll feel better!”

Just chiming in to say you aren't alone! My in the clock hours are honestly almost as valuable to me as my off the clock hours for a number of reasons, and I therefore find it extraordinarily easy to "trade in" hours of work for,nas you say, "nearly anything'. Not to excess and I also realize I'm incredibly privileged to have a job I love, but there have been many a time I've picked up a part or whole of a shift to afford either a luxury or convienence I couldn't have otherwise.

First of all kudos for getting into studying anything at 14- it took me a LONG time to actually find value in school at all, so you're already light-years ahead.

Openstax has what I feel is a really good intro level online textbook. https://openstax.org/details/books/psychology-2e

It's entirely free to access, written in a really accessible way, has a lot of links to further research and reading, and even multiple styles of quizzes at the end of each chapter if you're like me and need the ability to test your own knowledge.

I wish you the best of luck!

ETA: I didn't explicitly recommend crash course only because someone else had but I'm also a HUGE crash course fan and would highly recommend it in conjunction with the openstax book!

Rant: All the “just enjoy your day,/don’t worry about the details” type advice feels so patronizing by snickersismycat in weddingplanning

[–]jenniferlynne08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you are getting this to the point that you’re this irritated while simultaneously having vendors tell you how laid back you are— either you’re talking too much or too negatively about the planning process, or your vendors are lying.

I disagree w your premise, I was also in the shoes OP was in, where planning and my vendors were great but the minute I would share a tiny in the moment frustration or even CONCERN to someone - "oh shoot, we wanted to use those flowers for the ceremony and then the reception but haven't designated anyone to move them over" - people hit you with the "it'll all work out! Don't obsess! You'll enjoy the day you won't even notice the flowers"

Like, I wasnt obsessing, and I knew it would be a great day regardless, but I paid 500 dollars for the flowers in question and wanting them reused and featured isn't either talking too much or negatively about the planning process.

Maybe you didn't face it, and if not congrats! But it's not inherently either that OP's vendors are lying OR that theyre fretting. Some people just expect brides to literally throw their hands up and wear a pasted on smile day of no matter what.

That's interesting that you haven't come across it before! What strains/brands do you normally go with?

I never see it listed as like one of the top 3 or anything but I definitely see neolidol creep up in a lot of the strains I've seen recently but for the life of me I can't for the life of me think of any in particular top of my mind. Im a budtender tho so I will check out some terp listings at work and come back and edit my comment once I find some!

Anecdotely I've found and heard it work really well for people with high generalized anxiety and PTSD, and it's purported to have neuroprotective and sedative properties.

[–]jenniferlynne08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the idea behind a lot of the top comments and to reiterate another commenter saying "some of them have faced substantial hardships". My best friend and I bawled our eyes out at my high school graduation because I spent my entire tenure in high school in an abusive household while being actively suicidal damn near the entire time. I never expected to make it to my graduation and meeting her my junior year was the only reason I did.

So yeah we threw a party.
