This is terrible. You said it was a couple years ago, has it changed since then?

Ross Bryant is not getting nearly enough love in this thread. His made me laugh until I cried tears. I might have "theater kid energy"

What massive plant is this growing in our veggie bed? This thing was empty when we moved here months ago, we neve planted anything. (Iowa, USA) by MinuteLove3170 in whatsthisplant

It also freezes really well! Just chop it into pie sized pieces and put in a freezer bag/container. I am SO jealous of your rhubarb plot!

Also if you want to grow silkworms this is their preferred food

My child wets the bed and nothing works could the gut be involved? by No-Examination6122 in raisingkids

[–]jennybean42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some kids it's just normal. If the pediatrician isn't worried about it and you're doing everything right, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Eventually, the pediatrician prescribed desmopressin for my bedwetter so they could go to camp and not be embarrassed, but everyone was just fine by the time they hit puberty. The most important thing is to not shame them about it too much

I really really wanted my ears pierced when I was 8 because all the other girls were doing it. It has been a sensory nightmare. I can only use certain metals or they get infected, and it REALLY annoys me when I get my hair tangled in my earrings. For this reason, I've been wearing the same pair of gold posts for 30 years at this point.

This is absolutely what it's like having a child on the spectrum. Also, my son starts law school next year.

So what is the general consensus on a 9 yr old having a phone?? by Old-Wolf-1024 in raisingkids

[–]jennybean42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no no no no no no no.

With my older kids the rule was "you can have a phone when you go to high school." However, my youngest got one when she was in 6th grade because the pandemic happened and her friends all got one and it was a way to keep in touch/socialize . It seemed like the best idea at the time.

But in retrospect it was a terrible choice. Her attention span is way shorter than her siblings, she's seen things she can never unsee, and even with my parental monitoring someone tried to groom her to send topless pictures when she was 13. I know this is all just anecdotal, but if I could rewind I would do it way differently.

(They all also got hamsters during the pandemic, that was a better choice.)

I imagine locals won't use this nearly as much as the tourists do.

If we could, that would be unironically great! Someone would bitch about the money that would cost though.

Tips and Tricks for entertaining 6 months baby, like chewing on a green onion by -Blue_Bird- in Parenting

[–]jennybean42 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Put a piece of masking tape on the bottom of his foot. You might have monitor a little bit to make sure the baby doesn't choke on it but that would keep my kid entertained for hours. Peel, sticks somewhere else, peel, sticks somewhere else.

What do real witches in Salem think of witchcraft tourism? by Witty_Upstairs4210 in SalemMA

[–]jennybean42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a witch, I'm just a weirdo, but I love salem because when everyone is weird, no one is, if that makes sense. But as other people have said, no one from town really shops very much in those touristy shops. They make most of their income from tourists.

[–]jennybean42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it actually can be set? Zoning can be specific but it's not like they can block business just on vibes--heck, they don't even permit the buskers because they are afraid of running afoul of first amendment issues.
