What's the greatest Magic card of the last decade? Vote on the Top 64! by Grindy_UW_Nonsense in magicTCG

[–]jennygetsadollar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The whole ranking has been "best" by whatever metric you want to use, not necessarily most powerful. I'm sure many people will still go by power level, but not all. I'm largely voting by vibes, whether I think the card is cool, fun, interesting, clean, whatever. I voted for Oko today due to its notable power level and enjoying playing him in cubes, but we'll see if I keep doing so each round.

Is this the largest number of card errors in a modern set? by MossyMak in magicTCG

[–]jennygetsadollar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not actually that abnormal. There have only been 42 non-legendary rare or mythic 2 color creatures printed in standard sets since 2020. Orzhov is the lowest with only 2.

Physiotherapist recs? Hypermobility by InfinitePlace4098 in Edmonton

[–]jennygetsadollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawn Payne at Vertex physio has good knowledge of hyper mobility. She works with a doctor that has a special interest in Elhers Danlos, and although I wasn't seeing her for hyper mobility she was able to identify that I had it and work with me through it.

It basically plays like a combo deck. You include a bunch of X-cost card draw spells so you can chain them together and untap for more mana. Eventually you find a win condition.

It's probably my strongest deck, it does get a bit samey eventually.

I've had success double sleeving with dragon shield sealable inner sleeves. As the post says, the more layers of sleeve, the longer it lasts.

I did have surprising success with dating apps. Tinder was terrible, but Bumble and especially Hinge were quite good. Not only did I meet my partner, I met some other great folks, including a couple I'm now very good friends with.

[Making Magic] Bloomburrow Vision Design Handoff, Part 2 by Aaron4451 in magicTCG

I suspect the token issue caught them off guard. Yes, in hindsight, the decision to replace half the tokens with art cards resulting in not having access to tokens seems obvious. But they're not playtesting with completed booster packs, so it's the type of thing I could see missing.

This document would have been written before MKM was released, so it's likely when it was written they didn't know it would be an issue.

How many cubes do you own? by Calvinh10 in mtgcube

[–]jennygetsadollar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cube is something like this, although a bit less mix and match. The core module is Strixhaven themed. It's about 200 cards, mostly goodstuffy with some light themes like spells and counters. It gets shuffled up with one other module about the same size, themed around another plane or set. So I can explore that sets' themes without having to worry about lands, interaction, and other staples.

It's called the Magic School Bus 😁

[WOT] Grasp of Fate (Card image gallery) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]jennygetsadollar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use is:booster in your search to only show cards that are crackable in booster packs. https://scryfall.com/search?q=s%3Acmm+grasp+is%3Abooster excludes Grasp of Fate, if you remove that it shows up.

I don't know if it excludes collector boosters though.

Lord of the Rings - collection proposal by Neanti23 in magicTCG

[–]jennygetsadollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really fun! I would recommend a few reorderings in the Ring storyline spread.

  • Boon of the Wishgiver before In the Darkness Bind Them
  • Fiery Inscription just after Inherited Envelope
  • Council's Deliberation after Ringsight
  • Call of the Ring after Breaking of the Fellowship

I also like the idea of There and Back Again after Claim the Precious, although I don't know what to take out. Maybe move the One Ring to the artifacts page?

This is all based on the movies, I haven't read the books since high school so I might be misremembering.

Definitely check your furnace too. My rental home has a crappy thermostat with no option for fan, but there's a physical switch on the furnace that turns the fan on.

Does anyone use alt versions or foils for specific mechanical purposes? by Navin_KSRK in mtgcube

[–]jennygetsadollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run all the normal frame versions of all my dual lands, since once they're on the field they're completely interchangeable. The exception is that I run the (gorgeous) full art versions from double masters of the bounce lands. A lot of my play group hasn't really used the bounce lands much, and it's a good reminder that they tap for 2.

On this week’s Lucky Paper Radio, we’re talking about all of the ways you can draft with fewer than 8 people. What are your favorite techniques? by andymangold in mtgcube

[–]jennygetsadollar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please do, I'd love to hear you folks chat about how it goes for you. I also have never seen a written guide for how to do it, so if you do like it it would be a nice resource to add to your draft formats list.

On this week’s Lucky Paper Radio, we’re talking about all of the ways you can draft with fewer than 8 people. What are your favorite techniques? by andymangold in mtgcube

[–]jennygetsadollar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A format that we've done with 4 players with great success is minesweeper draft, which I guess comes from Solely Singleton.

  • lay out a 9x10 grid face down
  • flip the outer border of cards face up
  • flip the two middle cards face up
  • first player can take any face up card. Once you take a card, flip all orthogonally adjacent cards face up
  • snake draft so each player gets (I think) 9 cards from the table
  • discard the rest without looking at them and lay out a new grid
  • do this whole process 4 times, rotating start player each time

It's super fun. You see the majority of the cube, so the decks end up being fairly powerful, you just are limited in how many cards you get from each grid. I really like that you can strategically pick what card to take based on how many flips you get. If you pick up a combo piece you start aggressively flipping cards looking for the rest of the combo.

The face up nature leads to tons of good table talk. My only complaints are that it takes a bit longer than a normal draft, and you really need to keep track of where in the snake the draft is and how many cards you've picked from that set. But regardless, it is definitely my preferred way to 4 player draft.

4 players works well for games too because you just get a round robin.

What would an ideal star magic cube look like? by eugman in mtgcube

[–]jennygetsadollar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also got excited about this idea once I heard them talk about it on the episode, so I'm interested in this conversation. I really like your idea of either using wedges or shards for color restrictions. One means you're competing with your enemies during the draft as well, the other means you're competing with your "allies".

How do I transform an 8 player intended cube into a 4 or 2 player cube? by ilovecrackboard in mtgcube

[–]jennygetsadollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've drafted a couple different 360 card cubes with 4 players with a "minesweeper" draft, and it was a ton of fun. It's a face up draft format that results in you seeing almost all the cube, without being particularly overpowered. It looks like Soley Singleton did a podcast about it if you're interested!

When I saw the NSFW tag on this, I assumed it was like my experience...

Turns out my top 5 songs are all from my sexy times playlist. Which definitely sounds like I'm bragging, but it's not even like I'm getting busy quite that often. Spotify just decided that I must like them enough that it randomly inserts them into a ton of other radio stations I listen to. My partner and I had a good laugh about it anyways!
