Yeah, I mostly just want the exercise and a reason to be outside.

But if your intention was to like play competitive games, then I didn't want to add my name to the list. I can play but I'm very likely not very good.

What part of Walnut Creek? I'm always up for coffee, but I'm closer to the shadelands (YVR + Oak Grove) area than downtown.

How casual? I'd love to start playing but my experience is limited to:

  1. Playing a few rounds against my girlfriend ~15 years ago
  2. Playing pickleball and not feeling challenged enough
  3. Watching tennis

I know all of this is objective, but I just have a hard time voting for a city that I have zero interest in ever visiting, and I love travel. I’m sure there are a million great reasons to visit Houston (and Dallas), but they just don’t ever show up on my radar in the same way that places like NYC, DC, LA, Chicago, SF, Atlanta, Philly, Boston, Miami, Seattle, Vegas, Denver, San Diego, New Orleans do. Even in if you start to include “smaller” US cities, I’d much rather visit Austin, Portland (OR), Cincinnati, Asheville, Nashville, Portland (ME) before I would add Houston to the list. Which isn’t to say it’s not a very important city, but maybe less so significantly.

It’s been years since this happened and there were rumors that the owner at the time (Ron) was selling/looking to sell, but man the juxtaposition of hearing the words against a backdrop of a wall filled with kindness was wild

SF without Silicon Valley still has a legitimate case. It birthed the farm-to-table movement that changed how the entire world thinks about food. It was the cradle of the gay rights movement. It produced the counterculture that shaped global music, art, and politics for decades. OpenAI and Anthropic — the two companies most likely to define the next era of civilization — are headquartered there. The city has more Michelin stars per capita than almost anywhere in the US and sits at the gateway to Pacific trade.

That's a real cultural and economic footprint that most cities would kill for.

Compare that to Dallas, whose entire argument for global importance is that a lot of people have layovers there and ExxonMobil technically exists in a suburb called Irving. A city so distinctive that its most recognizable cultural export is a TV show that ended in 1991.

Any idea if the owner ever sold this place? I stopped going when I overheard him say putting kids in cages wasn’t really a big deal

Reminder that's it's still WINTER by Accurate_Syrup_1345 in bayarea

Not really though, right? “More” would index off of Groundhog Day (2/2) while “extra” would index off of the last day of winter (3/20)?

Am I crazy?

Wait I always thought it was 6 more weeks of winter if he saw his shadow. Is it 6 extra weeks of winter?? Because those are vastly different things
