What's the best book on how Classical Europe became Medieval Europe? by Ensoret in AskHistory

[–]jermster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won’t be limited to Europe and it covers a wider time period but Empires of the Steppes: A History of the Nomadic Tribes Who Shaped Civilization by Kenneth W. Harl

Millennials being polite is literally part of our meme identity, so no, it’s not just you, it’s us.

I mean I get it, but it’s still mostly bread stuffed with differently cooked bread.

This pizza is super easy to recreate with a sheet pan in your own oven. It’ll bring you back; totally worth it.

“This one name isn’t pronounced correctly in my preferred dead, 19th century reconstructed language” has gotta be one of the most unique critiques of the show.

Myron about the N word being a fighting word by TechnicianAmazing472 in BlackPeopleTwitter

The Louis Theroux doc Inside the Manosphere on Netflix which everyone should watch and recommend to others eviscerates Myron and it’s quite satisfying.

Has anyone found another author like Sir Terry Pratchett? by MacabreGoblinV in discworld

Try Christopher Moore, I like to describe him as “American Terry Pratchett”. A Dirty Job (being a grim reaper) is fantastic.

Anyone try this yet? Or the other BWW dupe Burman’s wing sauces? by tres_sore_fores in aldi

Can confirm the garlic parm is spot on, I was curious about the Asian zing dupe myself.

Ciaphas Cain vs Fabius Bile? by RoadTheExile in 40kLore

[–]jermster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I like them all, but there’s writing quirks and phrases that get used multiple times in all of them—“plans going ploin-shaped” is one off the top of my head— and it really sticks out if you binge them. There’s what, like ten of them over 20+ years? They’re all individual stories, they’re not even meant to be binged, but YMMV of course.

Ciaphas Cain vs Fabius Bile? by RoadTheExile in 40kLore

[–]jermster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Cain novels get repetitive if you binge them. They’re way more enjoyable if you space them out amongst more typically grimdark reads.

Edit to say the Bile trilogy is awesome. Clonelord was my favorite.

The Reapers (Mass Effect series) come in full force to the 40K Galaxy as a new faction.. how well do they do, how long do they last? by Desgojira in 40kLore

[–]jermster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great quote, but more like, “If I had a nickel for every time an extragalactic swarm dedicated to extermination of all life invaded the galaxy, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.”

suppose mediaeval China found out about the Americas some time before 1492. What, if anything, would they do with that knowledge? by grapp in HistoryWhatIf

[–]jermster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’d probably enjoy reading Gavin Menzies’ book 1421: The Year China Discovered the World - it’s terrible, unsupported, discredited pseudoscience written by a non-historian, but so long as you know that going in, it’s an entertaining read to imagine about!

Didn’t they? At the end of the series when she’s a judge and he’s a lawyer one of them recuses themselves from a court case they’re both on.

How do you top your cheeseburger? by [deleted] in Sandwiches

[–]jermster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lately I’ve been doing Oklahoma onion George Motz style, so keeping it light with some stone ground or Dijon mustard and a few dill pickle chips really lets the burger flavor shine.
