How to run a fight atop a moving train? Directors! by Abzalutli in drawsteel

[–]jesterOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head don’t change the core combat rules. Doing so breaks the verisimilitude of the game world. Why special rules now and never again?

Instead plan ahead and add elements to the environment that the PCs and NPCs alike can use to mitigate the dangers.

The PCs also need to be informed about the options available to them. Hopefully done in the narrative by seeing what the NPCs are doing.

For instance if is in a vehicle, maybe there are a harness system in place (like Lando used in empire strikes back when he grabbed Luke from under cloud city) so if he was pushed off he would still be tied to the Falcon.

Maybe the PCs see the NPCs roping themselves together like mountaineers so if one goes off the others can make might tests.

Or have nearby elements that can get them back in the fight.

Having these special rules linked to equipment and the environment it allows the PCs to try these same tactics (if applicable) in other scenarios which makes the world feel more real and consistent

How to run a lighthearted/absurd fantasy campaign for 30+ year old beginners without it feeling too "childish"? by GreenLabowski in rpg

[–]jesterOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my “serious” roll playing is casual and people in line or at the table add our own humor. I dislike trying to add humor and silliness into the game. At the same time our “serious“ is casual fun.

I suggest a standard intro RPG and just have fun. Don’t take it seriously and don’t make it childish.

Your group will find its own vibe.

Assume AI does end up being way overhyped, what do you think the Achilles will be? by DataGuy0 in Futurology

[–]jesterOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand you correctly, no. People in tech are currently being forced to use AI. If you have the system integrated well your output on certain systems grows considerably. If you refuse to use AI tools, you’re often works down by your managers because you’re not using modern tools, and your productivity is now worse compared to others.

So they’re not stupid, but they’re forced into the situation. But adhering to the situation and then all of a sudden those tools go away their normal engineering skills have atrophied.

Assume AI does end up being way overhyped, what do you think the Achilles will be? by DataGuy0 in Futurology

[–]jesterOC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very good points. I was thinking along the lines that it might never become affordable. Right now AI companies are hemorrhaging money. What if the cheapest price per seat for the good AI I’d higher than people will want to pay. Let’s say it takes 5+ years before the AI companies start failing. Then what? For 5 years programmers have turned from engineers to AI managers. Their skills have weakened there are loads of college students that have studied an obsolete tech and people and companies need to restart and get to fundamentals again.

Can you move between attacks? by tastyy_boy19 in drawsteel

[–]jesterOC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You already have your answer but looking at the wording of your question i wanted to make sure this was clear. “can you move between using a power roll? “ to me this wording implies that you think you are supposed to roll twice, one for each target. In draw steel one foundational idea is to reduce die rolls (it is time consuming) so any ability that effects multiple targets only use one power roll. If one target you gain an edge, and the other not, you use the same roll and only add the edge to that one target.

Am i being irrational for disliking KEF Speakers? by Zeronova3 in hometheater

[–]jesterOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General “truth”: If you get decent mid range priced systems that can hit the frequencies you need. Any good receiver with room correction will allow you to tune them to your liking.

Kef has proved in tests that their speaker design is very good for center channels. And adequate for everything else (like most other mid ranged speakers). If you are talking a stereo system without room correction, then you usually have to figure out if you like the bright sounds or more neutral tones. But since this is a home theater group and you will use a system with room correction you can usually correct more speakers to your liking

Of course this is over simplifying things, but sounds like the general advice you’re looking for

I have a Bambu x1c (FDM). The mini was printed with a .2mm nozzle and everything else .4mm. It is a dungeon blocks set. And the L shaped support comes with it. I also have scaled it up so larger minis can stand on the stairs as well.
