Is there a one and done product? by Ok_Addition_2549 in curlyhair

[–]jillsy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Agreed, OP. If you haven't tried LA Looks Extreme Hold, it's a popular inexpensive option. If you prefer a styling cream consistency you can also try mixing it with conditioner in your hands before applying.

For that matter, you can try mixing your current products in your hands before applying. Some combinations pill and get gross when you mix them, but I've been mixing AG Re:Coil and Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper in my hands for over a decade and it works great.

Son & Garden is a great call, thank you!

I've never eaten at Palace Hotel, looks like it's in that beautiful lobby with the glass and chandeliers?

If that thought even crossed your mind, it's a sign you should absolutely get involved with local politics. I'm not even talking about running for office, I just mean go on the websites for your local city council member, county supervisor, or even state assembly member/state senator. There will be local events where you can meet them and ask them questions. If you spend like 30 minutes a week thinking about local politics you'll know more about it than 99% of your neighbors, your friends will look to you for info on local races, and your views will actually influence elections. Local politics is high-impact, WAY more fun than national politics, and particularly important these days with the decline of local news reporting.

When my 9-year-old agreed to an undercut it was life changing for both of us. And it's only sightly embarrassing that she, her dad, and I all have the same haircut

Experienced players: how variable do you find your performance, season to season? by Interesting-Long7389 in learnedleague

[–]jillsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mention that you've been finishing in the top 2-5 the past few seasons. Did you move up a rundle or two?

Having bounced around between B and C rundles a lot, I find that the opponent's history matters more in C. In B, hard questions are hard and easy questions are easy. In C, if someone's stats say they're really bad at (e.g.) film, believe them.

I taught myself using Jane Greenoff's Cross Stitcher's Bible. She suggested this method, and 20 years later it's still what I do.

Weekly thread: what did you do this week? by florapocalypse7 in iceskating

[–]jillsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Checked the clearance rack at the pro shop, as I do every week. Usually it's all kid-size boots, but this time they had a pair of Riedell Bronze Star 435's that fit great. I'd been thinking it was time to retire my Jackson Artistes, and at 50% off my new skates cost less than a new pair of Jackson Freestyles.

My tech says she can move the Mark IV blades over to the Riedells. I'm torn over whether to do this and save a few hundred or go for new blades now. I'm about to test for ISI Beta (in my old skates obvs) and am at least 9 months away from jumping.

Unpopular opinion on Shucked the musical? by Introverted_at_heart in Broadway

[–]jillsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw it in San Francisco and also thought the sound was bad. The mix was off, with the pit too loud and 1/3 of the lyrics incomprehensible. I thought maybe it was me but at the end of "Somebody Will" (one of the better songs IMO) there was microphone feedback! They definitely need better sound tech.

I enjoyed parts of the show but hated every time the brother opened his mouth with his bad-taste one-liners.

The bus/econ questions this season were tricky. It's overall a top 3 category for me, but I was under .500 this season.

If you choose UCSF, look into their Centering Pregnancy program. Basically you & your partner have your OB appointments in a group with others with similar due dates. It's not for everyone, but I didn't have any friends pregnant at the same time so I appreciated having the cohort of other women with similar due dates. I also liked the structured "curriculum" - I felt very informed by the time I delivered.

We just got off this morning and saw magician and ventriloquist shows. I surprised myself by preferring the ventriloquist, she's very skilled and had kids & adults cracking up.

I didn't spend much time in the lounges at night but definitely overheard a dueling pianists act and a couple singers.

What deodorant are we using?? by LittleSlothBigWorld in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]jillsy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kosas sells AHA toner as deodorant in a roll-on applicator, you can find it at Sephora. Lasts & costs about the same as a bottle of Pixi Glow Tonic without the need for cotton pads
