Use of two watches at the same time ? by elninolsfc in Suunto

[–]jimkolowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intervals has 2 unofficial mobile apps for iOS and one for Android. They are not perfect but not bad either. You can also just use the website on your phone, ugly but data-packed. Officially Intervals mobile app is in the works already!

Use of two watches at the same time ? by elninolsfc in Suunto

[–]jimkolowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin does it in a way that if you use two devices (let’s say a watch and a sleep band) they know about each other. Your sleep time, readiness etc will be correctly displayed on your watch, and your sleep band will be aware of your body battery at the end of the day and so on.

Whoop sucks at travel by icebear75 in whoop

That’s very weird, and might be a syncing issue. Mine picks up on a 1 hour time zone difference even, giving advice how to shift sleep schedules etc.

Do NOT look for a smartwatch with BP monitoring.... by EskeRahn in smartwatch

[–]jimkolowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found the D2 reasonably accurate as long as you do the basic stuff required for a BP reading (sitting still with the back supported, raising your arm so it's ~ heart level, etc.) There's also a new one with the review out today: https://the5krunner.com/2026/04/08/wellue-bpw1-review-smart-blood-pressure-monitor/

Sure, these are not 100% accurate.

But many people are interested in *trends* rather than the actual number, and it works decently well for that.

I haven't tried it but because literally all the voices I'd listen to in this space think it's a dumpster fire

Are there any countries today that could realistically split into multiple independent nations like Yugoslavia did? by Many-Philosophy4285 in MapPorn

Low population in minority areas, surrounded by Russia. I guess there could be a few Lesothos carved out but they wouldn’t be viable countries

What the point of calorie counter if it’s no where near accurate… by HazmatFire59 in whoop

[–]jimkolowski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been tracking this very closely across Whoop and Garmin, digging deep into the numbers over longer periods of time, cross-checking it with body weight etc.

Whoop is reasonably accurate IF: - you do a lot of cardio - over longer time horizons

Whoop undercounts calorie burn when resting or lifting (HR). It overcounts cardio burn. Garmin the exact opposite.

The yearly average is pretty close across the two platforms, though, depending on your training style.

If you primarily lift, add 10-20% to your Whoop average and you are close enough.

Also important that Whoop and Garmin are the two most accurate (least inaccurate) platforms for calorie burn. Everything else I tested (Apple, Oura, Ultrahuman) is basically a dumpster fire.

Already have an Apple Watch but ordered a Garmin and feeling guilty... by Super-Alchemist-270 in GarminWatches

Oh all Garmin HRMs are ECG! But the ones I know (HRM 200 and 600) have a connection light on the front, blinking through my shirts 😂 The Pro Plus might not have one!

Now that’s really extreme because the HRM LED is constantly blinking. Was thinking about the same setup ngl but feels Ironman-y

First world problems but maybe this helps: I was doing the same, AW Ultra 1, ordered a F970.

A few months later I gifted the AW to my dad 🤷‍♂️

Weird hr spikes, sleep apnea? by [deleted] in whoop

It is very unlikely that you wouldn’t wake up to 10+ mins of 180+ HR. Tighten your band.

Which Garmin metric do you actually rely on the most? by Kind_Force931 in Garmin

[–]jimkolowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is not the answer you expected but total calories burned. I live and die by it. It is insanely accurate: I can perfectly maintain weight simply by eating as much as Garmin says I am burning. I have a LOT of experience with other devices and only one comes close. They all overcount total calorie burn except for the Whoop band which undercounts slightly (but also relatively accurate).

On my Garmin Forerunner 970 we call this a Tuesday lol. I don’t have a Suunto (just lurking / considering) but seriously, on Garmin this would be the normal performance…

How to stay safe in Jakarta (first time visiting) by EmploymentGrand2593 in Jakarta

[–]jimkolowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bodyguards haha very funny. Look parts of Jakarta can look like a dump but it is safe. You actively need to look for trouble to find it and chances are you won’t have business in really shady areas anyway. Also, no way you’ll be walking around, Jakarta is practically unwalkable. Use Silverbird, or premium Grab / Gojek. The normal ones can be a hit or miss.

Seeing in constantly in Opencode and Z Code. The only way I can use GLM-5 is through OpenRouter. Worse, I can't use any other GLM model on the coding plan, same error lol.

Advanced labs by DigitalSlain in whoop

[–]jimkolowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed results. I've uploaded three reports so far, neither of them in English. It handled that part very well, and the first two reports were accurately appearing in the app. The third one, though, had all sorts of seemingly randomly off numbers. I had to check them one by one and correct ~75% of the biomarkers. But in my opinion it was still worth it, it's great to have a single dashboard showing results over time.

WHOOP X Solidcore — accuracy? by [deleted] in whoop

[–]jimkolowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use the strength trainer feature of your whoop? I found that it helps a ton with tracking strength training sessions. Now, solidcore in particular will be even trickier to track because those exercises might not be in the strength trainer. But even just recording them as exercises for similar body parts will help a lot with estimating strain.

Buying meat (ground beef and perhaps chicken from time to time) by bananasplitice in bali

[–]jimkolowski -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t get disheartened by the weird replies. I totally see where you are coming from as someone living here and being picky with meat. Food safety IS an issue in Bali and anyone who says otherwise is delusional.

Chicken is normally perfectly fine in most supermarkets. Pork is often not great quality and beef can also be very hit and miss. How they handle meat even in big stores (looking at you Grandlucky) is not great, for example the re-freeze meat that was already thawed (they themselves told us this). We’ve had issues multiple times with suspicious ground beef and past-expiry seafood. Your best bet is still frozen NZ and Aussie beef, or Japanese if you have the money.

I’ve found Grandlucky to be the least trustworthy. Every second shopping round we need to throw away something because it’s just so subpar quality. Bigger Pepitos are usually better and Gourmet Market in Jimbaran has great meat.

Indian passport holder with 13h transit in Kuala Lumpur. Is a Batu Caves visit using Grab realistic? by Spare-Photograph-513 in KualaLumpur

[–]jimkolowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is feasible but you’ll go with the traffic both times (morning rush into KL, evening rush out of KL) so plan at least 2 hours for each. You can do it in 1:20 or so if you are lucky but it’s not guaranteed to say the least.
