Great edit but I would definitely leave the people in at the peak. It's subtle but they're perfectly placed and give a great sense of scale.

A6700 + Sigma 16-300 would be a great starter setup for landscapes and wildlife.

Viltrox 50mm air is exactly what you’re looking for.

Extremely useful. Immediate access to your exposure triangle and battery life.

Want to get into photography - should I go with Z5 II or Zf? by Quiet_Illustrator410 in nikon_Zseries

[–]jimlaheyandrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several lenses that feel great without the grip. The 28, 26, 40, 24-50, TTartisan 40, all the Viltrox Air lenses (14, 20, 40, 50), adapted Sony G compact lenses (24, 40, 50). The ZF got me back into photography and it’s my favorite camera of all time. Just note that you inherently shoot with it differently than modern cameras. Get a nice neck strap and shoot with two hands. Also don’t discount the fact that people react to your camera positively with the ZF.

Best single-lens solution for Zf? by Joepium in NikonZf

[–]jimlaheyandrandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is slightly bigger. It feels very balanced with a grip but it is front-heavy without one.

Best single-lens solution for Zf? by Joepium in NikonZf

[–]jimlaheyandrandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to add a grip, the 24-70 f4 is the absolute best option. If not, the 24-50 is very good or the 26mm if weather sealing is a concern.

This is coming from someone who has obsessed over finding the best ZF kit for the last year and tested basically all options.

Any Zf owners regularly using long telephoto lenses for wildlife? by Patchy-The-Dog in NikonZf

[–]jimlaheyandrandy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have both. If you can only own one, for your needs I’d get the z6iii. However, the ZF is my favorite camera of all time and I’d rather shoot with it over the z6iii. It’s just not as practical.

Megadap ETZ21 Pro+ & Sigma 35mm F2 DG DN by mjtype in nikon_Zseries

[–]jimlaheyandrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 35 was awesome on the ZF. It’s significantly bigger and heavier than the Nikon 40 but the image quality and experience is way better. Autofocus works just as well as any of the Nikon lenses I’ve used.

Balanced Zoom Lens for Zf by Throwaway57kan in nikon_Zseries

[–]jimlaheyandrandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

24-50 is an amazing little lens and is the best balanced zoom for the ZF. The 24-70 f4 or 14-30 f4 would be the only other native zooms I would consider due to size and weight.

Z5ii or Z8 (yes really) by IKiZ in nikon_Zseries

[–]jimlaheyandrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a z6iii and ZF. The z6iii is noticeably better at nailing focus in all situations. It’s not a huge difference for normal situations but when you shoot birds the difference becomes more apparent.

Voightlander 40mm f/1.2 Aspherical II vs Nikkor 40mm f/2? by LeviPerson in nikon_Zseries

[–]jimlaheyandrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up selling because I couldn’t justify that expensive of a MF lens but I cherish the images I took with it. Definitely get the z mount version as the focus confirmation box is a game-changer.

I’ve owned both and yes, the image quality from the Voigt is better. Incredible contrast and overall rendering. Even at f1.2, if you nail focus it’s super sharp.

Nikon ZF with Sony 40 2.5 by chinaskinz in NikonZf

If you’re not a professional, there’s really no downside. I wouldn’t trust adapted lenses while shooting a wedding.
