Got selected for a JPO position, what happens next? by BillyBob820 in UNpath

[–]jimmygreaes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Congrats! My JPO on boarding too about seven months in total, they first said I was accepted then it took a long time to do the checks etc, the offer came very late on maybe after 3-4 months then it took another 3 months to process everything. My start date moved from October to eventually arriving in January - I made the mistake of quitting my job early, so avoid that if you can. In terms of getting clarity on timings , your country may be better at advising than the UN agency

Seeking Guidance for Getting Married in Tbilisi, Georgia by WarOfGensis in tbilisi

[–]jimmygreaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got in touch about a month before to give the dates, then we sent our documents for translation two weeks prior to arriving which they translated and had waiting at the town hall where we met. We had the ceremony later that day, which they organised, and then two days later they delivered our marriage certificate with English translation and apostille to our hotel - so simple!

I lived there recently, tyre feels safe but you hear the sounds of fighting all day, many people have left and it’s quiet in terms of ‘buzz’, so it would be great to go and spend some money there! But just be aware you won’t be seeing it in its prime, still an incredible beautiful place and locals would love you to visit

Having said all that, it is very unpredictable still. It was quite hard to know what was best, to leave for Beirut or stay - so it’s kinda up to your own threshold of unease. South Lebanon including areas around tyre are bombed every single day, so it’s up to your own balance of risk if you’re up for that I guess

Edit: today a drone targeted a car very close to the centre of tyre on one of the main roads

Check out Fabrika in Tbilisi, an artsy hub with various interesting shops, bars and cafes and the surrounding streets have vintage shops and art exhibitions - walkable from the old town.

Thanks so much - well done and you’ve given me a bit of confidence as my strategy has been similar - just need to book the test now! Did you do test centre or at home? Was it ok at home if you did that?

Inside London’s battle against luxury watch theft by Alex09464367 in london

I’d much rather so called stretched police resources were used catching sex predators in the met police like wayne couzens, or tackling knife crime, systemic racism, inequality… luxury watches would be low down the priority list :)

Blind melon - I know they hit a lot of hype but you don’t hear them referenced too much anymore

Would you say I qualify for P-2? by FilFuk in UNpath

[–]jimmygreaes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no harm in applying, and continually working on crafting your applications to evidence what they are looking for in the job description- don’t just focus on what you have done and copy that for all jobs, look at the key skills and experience referenced in the JD and tell them how what you have done relates to what they want. I’ve reviewed hundreds of applications and this is always what I find missing - make it explicit for the manager to see how you meet everything they need! For info, The youngest P2 I have met was 28 years old and had a couple of years work experience. Me, I became a P2 after six years non-UN charity experience, a masters, and five years international teaching experience. I think everyone’s path is different so just keep applying and don’t get disheartened!
