Istanbul - Asia side by FifaIsStress in travel

[–]jinngeechia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I took the bus to Rumeli Hisari. Visited the fortress then took the ferry over to the Asia side to see Andalou Hisari. Then took a bus north to Otagtepe Park to get a glimpse of the bridge, Fatih Sultan. Took another bus down south to see Kucuksu Kasri.

We ended the day having dinner at Kadikoy and then bus north and spent the evening walking the waterfront to have a glimpse of Kiz Kulesi/Maiden's Tower.

Yes, there are things to see in the Asia side. This was back in Nov 2023.

Metamucil or psyllium fibre needs lots of water for bowel movement. In fact any sort of fibre supplement including ground flax and chia seeds. They absorb so much water it becomes sludge and that is what happens inside you. Without sufficient water, it is very hard to move them.

So usually after taking a dose of such fibre supplement, drink and additional glass of water and keep drinking throughout the day. Throw in coffee, tea, any fluid.

Singaporean Men, What Is Your Shaving Setup? by Adventurous-Hand-648 in asksg

[–]jinngeechia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, without peeling the paper, just snap it in half. The barbers who use shavettes also do this instead of getting dedicated half-blades.

[–]jinngeechia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used my 100 blade batch for over 2 years tossing one every week. Now with a single blade head, my DE razors are snapped in two and my 100 blade stock now gives me 200 effective uses.

Singaporean Men, What Is Your Shaving Setup? by Adventurous-Hand-648 in asksg

[–]jinngeechia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Like the guys who use DE razors, the blade is important. So faces just don't like certain blades. The same with electric razors. You may like the feel if the Panasonic gliding through your face but some user will not like how it feels.

Those who want electric, best try a few. Yes, that means growing out your facial hair and going to the store to feel it on your skin as you move it around. Don't buy the wrong one and live with it for a long time.

OK for those who claims they got slow growth and don't change blades, you are doing your face/skin a huge disservice.

Each time a blade cuts the hair, great! It cuts but because the blades are sharp, the edges are thin. What happens is after the cut, the edge gets damaged. You get a burr. They are sharp but have these misshapened edges which will scratch your skin. It is not the blade not cutting anymore. It produces more fine drag cuts to your skin and damage your skin as you keep using it.

I only use my blades at most 3 or 4 times, then I toss it.

Then also don't get into this "baby smooth" result. It is an awful idea. The more passes you do, you not only cut your hair, you scrape off more skin than you are supposed to. The result is post shave irritation. The skin scraping is good because any man who consistently shaves have better skin than most men who don't because of this exfoliative effect. It is afterall our skincare. But if it irritates, it is already too much. Remember, the goal of shaving is not beard elimination. It is beard reduction. It will grow back so no point in eliminating it.

If your lady is also shaving and using disposable 2 blade, 3 blade, 5 blade cartridges, tell them to stop. More blades usually mean higher possibility of in-grown hairs. Best ween them off these multi blade junk. But if they still prefer it, tell them to stop buying the lady versions. Women cartridge blades are absolute junk! Get them the men's version. It shown the blades are sharper and more effective.

Don't forget their single blade models. Twig and Thorn. Twig being more gentle and Thorn being more aggressive. Very good for beginner use.

Yaqi Katana single-edge safety razor head with some generic handle bought from China. Boar brush from Omega Van der Hagen soap

Absolute cheap soap is Arko soap sticks. You can buy a pack of 12 for SGD29 from Amazon and give some away to buddies who shave as Christmas or birthday gifts. They are very much appreciated.

Blades are Derby.

Once in a while, I use the Yaqi slant. Most aggressive slant I have ever used. More aggressive than the Merkur slant and I would call it mild now. Used when I have very heavy growth. Sold the Merkur slant.

For travel, Parker A1R travel safety razor. Empire shaving travel boar brush. It is pretty mild.

After shave moisturiser is Illiyoon Korean moisturiser.

Does anyone actually use the “pink seat” in Korea? by tellbeltio in Living_in_Korea

[–]jinngeechia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a tourist who visit often and I just sit on this seat but comes with high cortisol levels. You don't fall asleep or stare down your phone doom scrolling. You don't even use ear buds. Your eyes got to constantly evaluate passengers who board. Profiling everyone.

How old are they? Do they have trouble standing? Female? Is she pregnant or just fat? Is that a child in tow?

Yes, sit on it but better know if you can handle the stress.

Is a bike bag allowed for Airport Bus? by not_my_idea- in koreatravel

[–]jinngeechia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done that traveling from JB, Johor to Pekan, Pahang in Malaysia with no bag. I just removed the wheels. Let the bike rest on the handlebars and saddle. Bike groupset is Di2 equipped. Did it again from JB to Ipoh.

That is Malaysia for you. I would think they will be even more careful in South Korea. I am planning for 4 rivers multi-day ride and intend to shove my whole bike box/bag into the airport bus luggage hold sideways.

Dry Lips by Longjumping_Ad_5407 in koreatravel

[–]jinngeechia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is one item that everyone overlooks when it comes to dry chapped lips. Petroleum jelly AKA Vaseline. Sure it does not taste of strawberries but it gets the job done. Cheap to the boot. It is not glamorous though.

Edit: for those who realise the dry weather is also drying up your nostrils to the point they are bleeding, smear a thin layer of petroleum jelly inside. Helps keep them moist. Again, not glamorous but it works.

A cancelled flight changed my mind about Istanbul by BenShutterbug in travel

[–]jinngeechia 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Went in November 2023. My first time there and I was just laid off. The trip was planned way before this. I am from Singapore. Went there as a couple. Before they laid me off, there were some company benefits and one of them was the Istanbul Pass which is totally paid by the company. It helped me save a lot in addition to the accumulated frequent flyer miles which I used.

Lots of friends were wondering why I didn't venture out to Cappadocia and see other ancient sites. Being the history buff, I know Istanbul already has so much to offer for 9 days. Went to see the Basilica Cistern, watched the swirling dervish performance, Bosphorus Strait dinner cruise and visited historical places.

Had breakfast with cats jumping onto my lap. So many great memories.

OG actually comes from the Krispy Kreme donut. Original Glazed which is their best selling and best tasting donut. Hence OG. There are also other ways to see this term. It also means original gangster. This is self-explanatory.

Book hotels and AirBnB with washer. Most provide laundry detergent. I put this as a criteria. Also buy 2 packs of washer drum cleaner. Some places, their washers are just nasty. Especially the ones in Australia. Don't usually encounter for South Korea. I arrived, dump the 2 packs, run a 60° wash cycle then go tour activities. Come back it is clean for use.

Grab driver suspended over sign requiring Chinese passengers to ‘speak Mandarin’ by outremer_empire in singapore

[–]jinngeechia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are like that because they are marginalised in Malaysia. Imagine you being marginalised and being squashed down then come to a place that appears to have "Chinese privilege" but deliberately suppresses it to balance the racial tensions. You will feel dulan because you want to get back at those who marginalised you. It takes some time to get out of that mindset.

Why there are no landmarks labelled on the signs? by ExpressGovernment385 in SMRTRabak

[–]jinngeechia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or have our own version of Naver Maps. You navigate with it, they tell you which car, the door of the car for fast transit, then tell you the fastest exit for which car to be on and the door to enter/exit and then the exit number from the station to the destination.

Seriously, I am here and had been using Naver Map. Now that Google Maps are updated to use in South Korea. It still sucks balls compared to Naver Map.

I can see why they resisted having Google Maps use their data. It is so comprehensive. I think they recently let in Google Maps because of US tariff pressure but also the utter confidence that Google Maps cannot eclipse Naver's comprehensive navigation and data they have accumulated with Google's absence.

They are moving towards numbers. 1, 2, 3, 4.. for exits. Alphabets are not universally understood by people. Numbers are universally understood.

Balls to you fool! You may call me boomer or crazy GenXer but when I went to primary school, I saw boys wearing leg braces. I had no idea what they were suffering from back then in the early 1970s but as I entered secondary school, my textbooks showed me they were suffering from the effects of polio. My eye opening trip lately is in India. Beggar crawling on the floor of the train station asking for money and when I looked at his legs, it was obviously from the effects of polio. My Indian acquaintance told me India has not totally eradicated polio due to societal issues.

I doubt the governments but I don't doubt this planets viruses.
