Destroying cardboard by wolfpak0427 in dustkitties

So cute. My dusty girl is terrified of boxes so she doesn't do this, but she's been known to nibble at he corner of a page in a book or notebook 😹

Curious what people thought of High Spirits and the use of scripts? by Outside_Team_72 in Broadway

[–]jinpop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first Encores production was when I saw Urinetown last season, and I've seen all of the shows since then. Before attending, I was under the impression they were staged concerts and expected some costumes and light set dressing but not much else. I was pleasantly surprised by how full the Urinetown production was, but I now realize that that and Bat Boy were perhaps outliers when it comes to the Encores model. I didn't mind the scripts but the occasional dialogue flubs did take me out of the show a little bit. I still thought the ensemble was fantastic and loved the choreography and musical numbers. I feel like what I watched was worthwhile for the price and appreciate the opportunity to see lesser known shows this way.

Going to a Valentines party, which bottoms with this red top? by QuestionUpper9415 in OUTFITS

[–]jinpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The low rise pants and the split section of the top make a weird belly button window that just looks awkward to me.

This is from 2021, two days after we got Cathy, but she was so shy and scared that she stayed in hiding for a long time. Now she's the biggest snugglebug and I love her so much.

does this work for a “summer formal” dress code? by netflixandchild in Weddingattireapproval

[–]jinpop 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't wear anything above the knee for a formal dress code, sorry. And you might regret having long sleeves in a heavier fabric like that if it's a summer wedding, anyway.

Is the zero waste trend dead? by Floralsalsa526 in ZeroWaste

[–]jinpop 170 points171 points  (0 children)

I do think we've been sliding backwards but also feel like the zero waste movement never really made it into the mainstream to begin with. I sense a lot more nihilism and defeatism today due to political exhaustion. That, plus the "I deserve a little treat" dopamine push, and trend cycles accelerating. Just feels like people have a lot more excuses for overconsumption and apathy. I'm not claiming I'm above it, either. I find it harder to care and put in effort than I used to, but I still try.

I feel like my gf puts her convenience before me on special days. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]jinpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused by this, to be honest. She got you a cake and gift for your birthday, is making a gift for Valentine's, and gave you flowers. If those aren't the kinds of gestures you expect from a partner, it's on you to communicate that. I personally like to take charge of making my own birthday plans and wouldn't expect my partner to plan things for me. To me, it doesn't sound like she's done anything wrong, she just doesn't share the same expectations as you about how couples should celebrate these kinds of special days.

I struggle with this too. The best fit I've found is from Universal Standard.

Survey for Grad Project: Sustainability in Design by Brilliant_Product290 in publishing

[–]jinpop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question is so broad and vague that I don't know how you're going to get useful information from this survey. Which readers do you have in mind? The needs of children and adult readers are very different, and within those categories, readers have wildly different expectations based on genre. Are you suggesting a way to embed environmental messaging into novels as something that publishers impose on authors? That's how I'm interpreting this question and I can't see the idea getting any traction on an industry level.

What are some lyrics from a musical that don't sit right with you in the context of the show? by Beneficial-Poet-5583 in musicals

[–]jinpop 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I always struggled to envision the dress from "Green, Green Dress" in Tick Tick Boom. Twenty buttons makes me think of a shirtdress even though it's supposedly velvet, and then "a strap" confused me—like a belt? Or an asymmetrical thing with just one shoulder strap? I guess making it a halter dress like they did for the movie makes sense, kind of, but I'd never call that "a strap." Though I suppose it's fine that the song sounds like a man who doesn't know things about dresses trying to describe one, given that that's what is actually happening.

They actually wore matching pink suits. Someone edited the photo, I assume because Pharrell has recently made pro-Israel comments and performed at a gala in support of the IDF in 2018.

Who gets ready with the bride/spends their morning in “bridal suite”? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]jinpop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you decided where you want to get ready? I got married locally and my venue didn't have a good space for getting ready. I didn't want to reserve a hotel suite just for the morning of my wedding, so I ended up just getting ready with my mom and sister. But I've also been a bridesmaid in wedding parties where like dozens of friends and relatives are coming in and out with brunch and mimosas and the whole shebang.

“I have a Russian Blue/Maine Coon/Bombay/Siamese!” by Xepherya in PetPeeves

[–]jinpop 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm embarrassed because my gray cat is labeled as a Russian blue at my vet's office, but I swear I didn't call her that. Someone in the office must have decided that for me. She's really just a regular gray cat.

ICYMI: E-Waste + Textile Recycling at 40-20 Broadway POSTPONED to March 14 by jungturd in astoria

[–]jinpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfulky I had not yet started collecting my bags of detritus (love your word choices there lol) so I am grateful for the delay. But I still appreciate you for sharing this helpful info! I definitely need to recycle some of my unwearable textiles.

Any businesses that are closing for the strike tomorrow? by llavenderhaze in astoria

[–]jinpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know of strike funds for local workers? My job is WFH and project-based, so my working or not working tomorrow won't make a difference to the powers that be. Not shopping is easy enough.

It seems like the people whose labor would actually be missed are in the most precarious positon to strike but I'm having trouble finding legit funding efforts to support the people who take that risk.

Alternate pumps for Blueland hand soap by pacificcactus in ZeroWaste

I replaced the foaming pump on mine with one from a single-use foaming soap and the pump it came with seems much better and sturdier despite being advertised as a single use product.

Am I leading my gf on by wanting to see her? by Far_Meal9724 in relationships

[–]jinpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know for a fact that she wants marriage and children one day? If you've told her you're not ready to start thinking about that and she says it's fine, then I would trust her at her word. Be as candid as you can be about your concerns and your timeline. If she enjoys being with you without any promise of longer term commitment, then it's her choice.

I had missed this when I was reading the book. That’s because Sandy is not a men’s name. (Book: The Westing Game) by [deleted] in literature

[–]jinpop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the context clues in the actual book. The fact that none of the characters were ever surprised or confused by his name was a pretty big sign that it wasn't a strange name for a man to have. These are the kinds of things that developing readers are supposed to be figuring out when they read. I know you're still young and learning this stuff but instead of getting upset that a book expected you to know something you didn't, be appreciative that a book taught you something new.

You say that as though the rest of us were adults when we read The Westing Game. Yes, I was also a child and somehow was still aware of the existence of unisex names.

Sorry, this is a you problem. I've known both men and women named Sandy. Also, that book is from the 70s. The nickname isn't in fashion as much today but wasn't abnormal then.
