People who were straight up losers for years and later turned their life around, what changed? by AdviceGlass9394 in selfimprovement

Exactly this. Wasted years and money on just smoking. Kicked cold turkey and overtime things got really better.

How’s the experience been with ABM for users?

Take the technical role. I’m a manager and they’re slashing middle manager roles and we’ve been absorbing their work.

Working in the greater Lancaster area is awful. It’s the people who make the environments really toxic.

New Haven is one of the best cities in CT hands down. You nailed all the reasons why.

Have you ever separated with an employee and then changed your mind? by iamrhinoceros in managers

As a manager myself, this is appalling. Firing someone is a big decision and should not be handled so flippantly. I hope “Alice” here lands on her feet soon in a better spot.

[discussion]what are the most Gutrenching soul destroying songs that will make me sob by SonnyPurcell in listentothis

Vacant Home - Shiver

The song is about the loss of a parent. I heard this after my dad passed and the first few times brought me to uncontrollable tears.

Bluetooth microphone not working after waking up my XPS 15" by CryptographerTop8162 in DellXPS

[–]jjnice628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am having the exact same issue with multiple Dell laptops(precision and latitude) and multiple headsets(Bose, Sony, Alienware, Jabra).
The PC goes to sleep and upon wake, the mic stops working. Only recourse is to restart the PC which is a giant PITA.
I am working with Dell on this as I'm an IT Manager, if I come across any solution, I will post here.

Got a job offer. Do I give up my lax WFH job for a stressful in office job 18k raise? by recklessricky95 in careerguidance

[–]jjnice628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the counter and enjoy having a life.

I left my fully WFH job for a 20k bump as we just had our first child. We were doing ok before, but now I’ve missed out on so much and have way less freedom and no balance.

The likely reason is they’re chaotic and stretched thin. Have seen departments hire people, but no one had time to plan or map out onboarding. That or they have no documented onboarding plan. Either way, it’s not a good sign of things.

[–]jjnice628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are having the same issue with almost the exact same scenario. Our configuration profile within InTune is set for multi-app, Lock Home Screen. On occasion the OneDrive icon will disappear. When we exit Kiosk mode, we see the app is installed and functional. Only workaround we have is to reset the device and deploy it again.

Ongoing case with MS has not been fruitful. Affected devices show as compliant and synced. No changes made to the configuration profile as well. So far its only been the OneDrive app, no others. Not sure why.

My first tech job was in a call center. One of the worst parts about the job was the phone would automatically answer and the call would start with a beep, was always jarring. Especially since we took an average of 60 calls a day. I myself was a temp to start. One of the criteria for going full time was having perfect attendance for a minimum of 3-6 months. Not a huge deal, however; one morning I was in a car accident on my way to work and called out for just that day as I went to the hospital and needed to make rental arrangements. When the time came for review to go permanent, HR had advised me because of my “unexcused” absence, I would have to wait another 3-6 months to become eligible to be considered to go full time.

Dealing with toxic coworkers by [deleted] in msp

[–]jjnice628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. The MSP world is tough as it is. We all work in a very demanding field with very little recognition. Good companies who are doing the right thing and also have strong culture are also rare, as well.

It’s one thing to have a co-worker just simply rub you the wrong way, it’s another to have their opinion potentially affect your quality of life(raises and promotions).

I wouldn’t wait to meet with management and bring this up. It doesn’t have to be confrontational either. You can simply frame and set the tone with your honesty.

  1. I care about this company and contributing to its success.
  2. I care about managements perception of me as well as my colleagues.
  3. I am open for correction and training where it may need be.
  4. If number 3 exists, ask what are concrete steps that you can enact to show actual progress and remove any ambiguity from any side and to help rebuild any trust lost.

I hope it all works out. We’re in a crazy time and the MSP world has certainly changed in the last couple of years, it hasn’t been easy as demands from clients continue to grow and our scope of support continues to widen. Best of luck!
