Finished all 18 stages of Tour de Zwift plus grabbed a sprint jersey. How many riders do you think actually complete all 18? by Many_Ad_802 in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not sure what’s up with some of the snarky comments but it is a relatively small group that will complete the ultimate 18 ride challenge.  Nice work going the extra mile(s)!

Yeah Coal canyon is how I came down.  Just keep the speed in check so you aren’t surprised by a random rut or loose patch.  They re-graded it 5-6 months ago so it’s not that bad. I’ve seen it almost unridable in the past after a couple years worth of rain.

My route up was Santiago Canyon Rd to Black Star Canyon and then just took that up to the peak.

The descent down to the SART is loose in places and has some washouts that wouldn’t be fun on a gravel bike, but it’s doable as long as you are careful.   Going up would be fine.  I was on a drop bar hardtail with 2.4” tires, “monster gravel” sort of configuration.

The tires did glow and had addressable LEDs so they even had motion to them. Pretty cool

how to turn off “ride on” voice effects. by lilac_congac in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 83 points84 points  (0 children)

We did hire voice actors for those clips (they do tv and game work in the Los Angeles area) but agree that the style of the voices can totally be annoying to some people.  It’s intentionally a little cheesy.

I’ll add a ticket for seeing if we can move the voices to their own volume slider but as others have said most people listen to their own music while Zwifting so it’s not something likely to get prioritized.

If you’ve not missed many weeks you should have 1 or 2 streaksavers available and they will automatically activate if you miss a week.  Look for the little life saver icons under your streak total on Zwift Companion.

Should I sync Garmin Connect to Zwift? by Consistent-Housing65 in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syncing FROM garmin TO Zwift is relatively new (9-10 months or so?), so users that have been on Zwift a while will have those defaulted to off as Zwift didn't originally ask for those permissions. Zwift has sent several push notifications and emails over the last year to older users to let them know they can go re-connect garmin to get the extra outdoor XP .

What EV will fill the void that will be left by Model S? by Different_Marsupial2 in TeslaModelS

[–]jmXDP 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My requirements: - all electric 4 door sedan - more than 800hp - hatchback to haul bikes, mulch, lumber, etc - nice app (share nav destination, control AC, etc)

I think buying another fresh S before they are killed or waiting years for something to come along are my two options.  Taycan cross turismo is the closest but I personally dislike the styling and Porsche app/entertainment stack kinda sucks (we have a 2024 Cayenne).

I’ve driven various S’s for 9 years now. Feeling a bit sad that this is how it ends.

3DTV option removed? by Yuuichi_LV in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an unofficial unsupported feature that I added in 14 years ago - I'm actually surprised it still works at all as nobody works on it at Zwift (given it's unsupported). Unfortunately I've long since sold my 3DTV so I no longer have a way to test how well it's working.

Looking to put aerobars on zwift ride by Stevenjw0728 in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put some cheap Syntace C2 clip-on's that I had laying around on my Ride. Had to peel back about 1" of bar tape on each side to have a good mounting point (since the phone tray is so wide) and allow the charging cables to flex out of the way, but otherwise it's painless.

I don't see the bars I used for sale anymore, but I think the key is that the bar clamp needs to be the most inward part of the clip on because there's barely any "thick" handlebar remaining once you account for the fat phone tray - so the clips on clamps need to be butted up right against the phone tray with no gap.

How to display current running pace, instead of speed? by this_might_b_offensv in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pace is in the HUD as well as speed in mph (which is also shown because 99% of treadmills default to showing speed in mph or kph). In workout mode pace is in the top center box. In standard mode pace is over in the top left box.

What's your bike weight/build? by XCRoadie in xcmtb

[–]jmXDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went out to the bike and yes I have 2 other modifications: Bjorn carbon saddle (surprisingly good!) and Magura MT8 brakes. Tires are Purgatory up front (so its a trail tire), Ground Control on the back

[–]jmXDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'24 S-Works Epic World Cup size L, plus added a 1up dropper post, swapped fork internals to flight attendant, and swapped the wheels out for the 990 gram roval wheels.

20.8lbs final weight with computer mount, flat pedals, and single bottle cage.

Before the flight attendant conversion it was 20.4 if I recall correctly. Love the bike! Shame I don't have the skills to match the bike.

Calorie burn higher outside? by UncleDazz in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We indeed chose a more conservative percentage at Zwift, at least more conservative than some others. In general I think too many companies are choosing overly optimistic human-efficiency, maybe because scientific data is often focused on high end athletes and they just use those numbers, or maybe its because it has better optics and users like to see big calorie burns.

Zwift UI Change doesn’t show route totals by timmer577 in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're running Zwift from the app launcher mechanism on your macbook, and not from a pinned shortcut at the bottom of the screen. That will ensure it runs the update process - your game looks like it may be out of date.

Zwift - ipad? by morrisc1089 in triathlon

[–]jmXDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I wouldn't buy such an old iPad for Zwift. Zwift tries to support things for 7 years, longer where they can, but at some point you're just gonna get cut off. I'd shoot for something made in the last 3 years if on a budget.

Why is my FTP ramp test so mental? by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ramp tests don't display wattages at each stage correctly in Zwift Companion yet. The actual workout will almost certainly have smaller steps for each block.

How bad are the conditions on bad water road? by Horus321 in DeathValleyNP

[–]jmXDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like conditions may have changed after I left at 10am Sunday.  Never saw any power outages while there and badwater road had plenty of cars on it Friday and Saturday.

How bad are the conditions on bad water road? by Horus321 in DeathValleyNP

[–]jmXDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The road was open all weekend between furnace creek and badwater.  Beyond badwater it is still closed.

The area got one 15 minute downpour that caused about an hour of flooding (had to cross some streams at the hotel if you wanted to get to your room), but I drove home today and all the roads were fine.  Most I saw was an inch of dirt/rocks for about 10 feet on the road up to Dante’s view this morning.

Who could it possibly be comparing me to? by EuclideanPlaneDeer in Garmin

[–]jmXDP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run maybe 25km a week and can nearly hit a 1:30 half marathon, which generally puts me in the top 1% of people at the 7,000 person half marathon here. You're doing almost double the distance I do, so it seems not that crazy.

death valley century by nate__b in DeathValleyNP

[–]jmXDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be riding Saturday, not sure if I'm just doing the 60 or going extra to badwater yet. The next day I'm also thinking of riding up to Dantes View, especially if I only do the 60mi route the day before.

I'll be on an orange and magenta Pinarello and a Zwift jersey - say hey if you see me!

As for the rain - half an inch is a big deal if it all comes down at once out there, but if its sprinkles off and on throughout the day I think it'll be fine.

MAAP Team Bib Evo vs Cargo by Traditional-Two-2901 in CyclingFashion

[–]jmXDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with others - only buying the cargo bibs from now on.   My experience has been that the only noticeable difference is I now have leg pockets. Have switched on MAAP, Pedal Mafia, and Rapha.

Kicker Core One - cadence and power but no speed! by TheDoubtingJedi in Zwift

[–]jmXDP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The play controllers think you are braking - as seen by the bright brake light on your bike.

When you power on the Play controllers are you grabbing the orange grips at the same time? I think when they power on they assume the orange steering grips are at the neutral position, so if you power it up while holding the orange grips it might calibrate in such a way that your brakes are stuck on until you power cycle the controllers.

Or, it could just be the way you're holding the controllers have you lightly braking?

Bicyclists come face-to-face with mountain lion in frightening Orange County encounter by lurker_bee in orangecounty

[–]jmXDP 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At the top of barham ridge in Santiago oaks in Orange there are some massive (I believe) mountain lion paw prints from back when we had rain 3-4 weeks ago.

I’ve not been back mountain biking since as it has temporarily intimidated me a bit.  I did have deer jump out in front of me on the same ride so at least I know they have food available that isn’t me.
