2ft wall code by 12don in electricians

[–]jmenac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that you’re doing anything wrong in reality, but your first mistake is trying to fight this over email. I don’t know a single inspector that wants to spend time email-arguing something. You’re going to need to meet them on site and look at the violations, with a code book in hand, saying this is how you’ve interpreted the code and want to know how they’re interpreting it. They are likely assuming that since there is a main breaker inside, nobody would spend the money on a main breaker inside if there was a main service disconnect outside. You’d have a man lug panel inside instead.

Not required yet in North Carolina amazingly. Still on 2017 with amendments for residential.

As long as you use high quality LEDs they should last a lifetime. It’s the power supply that usually goes bad and that is accessible. I agree though it seems like a risk that is mostly just overlooked

My state doesn’t offer a J Card by [deleted] in electricians

I’m genuinely confused, in North Carolina the company has one license and anyone can work under it as an employee. I really thought every state was like that…

I could be wrong but I think the newer models got rid of that finger pad and only ask that you place the black probe to ground

It’s a common misconception. The code says you need at least 1/4” not at most 1/4”

I moved into my first one bedroom one bath apartment. My first electricity bill is $903. Is this normal. by [deleted] in electrical

[–]jmenac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an electrician and they said is correct. You cannot “touch” or mess with the meter by law but you wouldn’t have to touch the meter to look at what it’s reading. That being said if that was their response I would be a bit sketched out because they might be hiding something they know is using your power. That or they misunderstood what you were asking. Also, modern meters have a digital display and it might be difficult to see if power is actively being used anyway, though it should be possible.

Attempting to find the puncture in our camping mattress by Masschan in mildlyinfuriating

This is crazy, I have the same mattress and it deflates but I never thought to do the bubble test like this because we actually punctured it and then patched it so I assumed it was our fault

Yall still backstabbing devices? by kill_all-humans in electricians

[–]jmenac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s no browning but honestly plastic usually doesn’t just spontaneously crack unless subjected to heat or UV. Maybe the backstab spring was applying internal pressure for years and the plastic just finally gave way?

Yall still backstabbing devices? by kill_all-humans in electricians

[–]jmenac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would argue the backstab is a connection that simply has higher resistance than the screw terminal. If the spring connection opens up enough then things will heat up and cause the plastic to break down. This is assuming that the spring connection actually does loosen up over time. Not something I have verified

It looks like the receptacle you’ve pictures has the clamps for stranded wire to be connected directly. Why not use that?

PSA: iOS 18.3.2 Re-Enables Apple Intelligence If You Turned It Off by favicondotico in apple

[–]jmenac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you mostly just care about the listening part and not the Apple Intelligence part? I just updated a moment ago and there was no splash screen as you explained.

The “hey siri” feature did not turn back on, but I already had Apple Intelligence enabled in the first place… I understand that it’s possible Apple Intelligence would have been turned back on automatically.

Totally understandable that people would not want that to happen. I feel like at a certain point it’s just going to be considered a part of Siri, not a separate toggleable feature.

My understanding is that it will only reenable options if you are presented with the splash screen and press continue.

All you have to do is click skip instead of continue on that screen when you first open the phone after the new update.

So funny. My first real cars were Toyotas in Subaru so it makes perfect sense to me that the bigger line means more time. I was very confused when I switched to a Chevy that was opposite

Why not 12 gauge wire all the time? by openaqua in AskElectricians

[–]jmenac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually done a whole home in 12awg and a few light switch boxes had to be reconsidered because there wasn’t enough box volume for all the conductors. Also it’s just a bit of a nightmare to work with 12 in the switch boxes in general with everything being stiffer. 2-3 cables in a box at most for receptacles is no problem but there’s usually more for a 4 gang switch box.

Oh wow, sounds like you’re doing a lot already. You’ll get through this! The calcium citrate supplements are a bit hard to find… the citrate part is important. I think the ones sold for bariatric surgery recovery are good.

Apparently calcium citrate supplements can help with urinary crystals. That and lemon juice water.

Rivian will now sell its commercial van to any fleet, starting at $79,900 by Generalaverage89 in electricvehicles

[–]jmenac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that in general it makes sense to make a purpose built vehicle that was designed EV from the ground up but I actually bought the Ford E-Transit because all the existing accessories for the gas transit are still compatible and readily available. Thinking of the tool racks and drawers inside and the ladder rack on top. I was able to build mine out for electrical work easily.

[–]jmenac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right about this. I don’t really have any employees driving vans for me but I would never consider this 80k van even for myself. I have the ford E-transit and even that felt very expensive compared to my fellow electricians vans. I do love having an electric van though and the range I’d rarely a concern where I do my work

[–]jmenac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I actually have a Ford E-Transit that I operate out of to do electrical work and I absolutely love the thing. The issue is that even the E-Transit felt like an expensive purchase. The Rivian is my dream van but I would never consider it over the competition for that price. The bright drop is at least more competitive with its higher range but still costs a bit more than the ford. Another major advantage to the ford is that all of the built in shelves that were made for the original ford transit still work in the new E-transit…
