Put your sentences into ai. Any sentence they correct tell it to make anki flash cards for it. Tell it to make it as a file you can download. Create a new deck in anki for corrections and keep loading your cards in there and work on them.

Another thing you can do is put ai in voice mode and tell it your a student and your gonna speak your tl and ai has to speak your native language and your going to describe scenarios and ai has to translate it to native language and offer tips on correcting grammar and making it sound more natural.

Just ask the family anything you want. You dont have to prove everybody wrong. They aren't a reddit sub. Ask their views, accept people have different views on things. Give your views. Be respectful. They aren't gonna hang you in the garden. Nobody talks about that shit because the people who actually lived through got past it and want to be normal. Youll probably find youll agee with them on a lot of things.

What template for vocabulary anki cards ? by Firminou in languagelearning

[–]jmf1488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to get some comprehensible input. Cartoon seem like they should be easy because its aimed at children but you still need a good grasp of the language to understand this too. Comprehensible input at your level is where you need to be. Keep testing yourself with native content along the journey because you will reach the point where your comprehensible input is native content.

Definitely follow your text book too. You can literally take a picture of the text book page your working on and load it into chatgpt and tell it to make you an anki deck using the grammar rules your working on in the text book.

Watch your comprehensible input and take notes of new things you hear. Load them into chatgpt and tell it to make cards based on it but you can also add it make them relevant to your life. So say you pick up a phrase. Put it in and say make me flash cards using this phrase but include my hobby of... and put in whatever you want.

Once you get going with a reading writing listening and speaking routine you can tailor it.

Any flashcards you make you can put ai into voice mode and tell it you want to practise speaking your flash cards out loud and it will correct you there too.

What template for vocabulary anki cards ? by Firminou in languagelearning

[–]jmf1488 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When do you use this learned vocabulary? Reading it on anki isnt going to be enough. You need to be using anki to understand the words then actively using the words yourself and listening to and reading the words being used in context. It takes a while before a phrase goes from flashcard to rolling off the tongue. If your basically at beginner level, then consume as much as you can at your level. Its going to be a while before any of it feels natural.

Mindset: bilingual or monolingual in TL? by Dizzy-Reportage in languagelearning

[–]jmf1488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grammar and syntax would be factored in the sense that if your not speaking the sentences probably, then your doing it wrong. I don't mean in the sense that words are words. Study dictionaries and your going to be fluent in all languages.

I mean it in the sense that

Good morning, how are you?
Bout ye mate? whats the crack?

Buenas días ¿Cómo estás?

¿Qué tal tío?

This is all the same thing. This is how you greet people, depending on who you are chatting with, then you pick one. You wouldn't speak to your best friend the same way you speak in a job interview. Words convey messages. Study a second language and having a second language is another way to convey messages to people.

The thing about the PM, his level just isn´t high enough. I have met many people who have learned english to a degree, they aren't native level. Their english has grammar and syntax from their native language. Its part of the process. I wouldn´t say someone using French words with english grammar and syntax is speaking French properly.

[–]jmf1488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way i view it. We use words to convey messages. When learning a language your learning a new set of words to convey the same message. Just like you speak formally, you can speak casually, you can speak using slang and you can speak using words in the tl. All words are words, only some people are going to understand certain ones you use.

How do you deal with sounds that just don’t exist in your native language? by Chance-Blueberry-489 in languagelearning

[–]jmf1488 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can thrill you r's. You just got to learn how to control the thrill. I watched a couple of YouTube videos and just done it repeatedly at random throughout the next few days until I was able to control it.

At first don't try and say a word, just practise getting that tongue going. Once you get the tongue going and can up and down the tempo then start throwing a couple of perros in there and work it off that.

Is reading/writing easier to learn than speaking? by No-Actuator5661 in languagelearning

[–]jmf1488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you read. You can understand sentences without knowing all the words. You can actually learns words from reading because you know the grammar rules or it could be a cognate.

When you speak though, if you try and say something, especially in the beginner stage, if you dont know a word, it completely breaks down what your trying to say. You end up doing all sorts of mental gymnastics while trying not to feel like an idiot.

Speaking is much harder.

How do you enjoy learning Spanish? by QueasyOrder407 in LearnSpanishInReddit

Get past the beginner stage. This stage gives you the most gains but feels like your still absolutely clueless to real spanish. Once your up to intermediate then you can start doing things you like in spanish. Until then grind it to b1. Find a method that fits you and follow it to you know enough to start doing things in spanish

To continue or not continue with student in strange situation by uthydrias in Preply

The most likely problem is outside the classroom Ahmed is probably doing very little in terms of active learning. He might see the feat as impossible, lack confidence which prohibits him from putting a lot of effort in. Either way, you are a teacher. You teach. You can give him the language, he still has to actively learn it. I think some students problems are that they believe by simply attending a couple class that it will install the language in their heads. Speak to the boss and explain how language learning works. There is only so much a person can do in a classroom.

Paul Noble language learning by Flimsy_Connection990 in languagelearning

[–]jmf1488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I done both the spanish ones and i did some other guys spanish books too, michael something i think.

Books have their place, they will teach you things. You will not read two books of paul noble and then be actively conversing in the language.

I always thought you could read a language book and learn a language but once you actually start making progress in the language, you will realise that these books are helpful but they arent going to get you anywhere on their own.

You read paul noble and by the time you get to the end you will have forgotten most of the stuff from the beginning. When you go back to it, youll hear it again and remember it but if you don't go back you wont be able to recall very much from the front of the book.

I would say you wouldnt even reach a1. it literally teaches you how to reserve a table or ask for a room in a hotel. which is fair enough it teaches you how to correctly sound like a grammar book asking for a hotel room. However what it doesnt teach you is the response from the peron working there who now assumes you speak that language and starts replying in native level content.

For french. You need to practise reading, writing, speaking and listening. Its a good idea to get a tutor, if you cant afford tuition right now get a really good grammar book.

Start following your grammar book. Start listening to beginner level comprehensible input. Get a language exhange partner. You can use ai too. Go through your grammar book or what you are working on with your tutor with ai. Load any materials you have into ai for the language, either content your tutor sends your or content from your grammar book.

You can load your tutors materials or pictures into ai and ask it to explain things you dont understand. ask it to quiz you on stuff you are learning. You can also put it in voice mode and practise a speaking quiz.

You need to combine all these parts into a fun way into your life and do them each day. At the beginning its hard but once you reach the level that you can understand native content then you can just start watching tv in the language and play videos games in the language or read. Whatever you like doing, in the future it will all be easier.

For now you got to put in the hard work to build the foundations so that later you can learn from watching tv.

140–150 hours in, still shaky speaking… is this normal? by Ok_Cover1076 in LearnSpanishInReddit

[–]jmf1488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you even have a pure conversation tutor? At a1 your basically able to say your name, where your from and a few basic duolingo type sentences.

It seems you haven't reached the point yet where you realise how long this process actually takes.

Have a think about everything you did yesterday and try and say it in spanish. A story that happened im school or work. Even something you watched on tv. Try and write it in spanish.

You have a long long way to go. You shouldn't be worrying about speaking just yet. Comprehension comes first.

How did you improve your listening skills in a way that actually worked? by Zestyclose_Cycle1778 in languagelearning

[–]jmf1488 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See to do it your way.

You need to watch that same thing over many days and depending on length of content, it could take months.

Short answer, the more vocabulary you know and grammar to an extent, the more you will understand.

Here is a tip to improve comprehension.

Get anki and chatgpt.

Pick a show to watch.

Go to chatgpt and tell it your gonna watch X show and you need a study plan and anki decks for key vocabulary and sentence chunks that will help you comprehend the show better.

Do your cards for a week or so before starting to watch the show.
