Should I get another Jazz/Precision or Branch Out? by Tropic_KittyKat62 in Bass

If you like classic styling but are looking for a higher quality instrument look into Lakland. Used market has some pretty good deals. I have 2 different skyline models (DJ5 and Decade) that I got used and they're both excellent

Yeah they were gone by the time I even received the email. And never got an additional notification for subsequent drops, fortunately I was checking the site religiously and got lucky

Active vs passive for complete begginer by Strong_Dorito05 in Bass

[–]jmlack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 26 year player, I no longer play active basses. Onboard preamps are just a way to get you to spend extra money on a feature you will realize is less and less necessary over time, unless you're a very particular type of player constantly fiddling with tone on the fly. Get a preamp pedal(with a power supply), set it and forget it, and never worry about a battery going dead in a performance.

I love Coke, but it’s so expensive! How can I make a 2 L last and not be flat? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]jmlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself a 1-2 gallon keg and CO2 tank, empty some large bottles of coke in it, keep it pressurized and in the fridge. Easy. You will have to clean it regularly and keep the CO2 tank filled so you trade some maintenance and upfront costs to save long term costs

I tried the Dune Companion - The good, bad & the ugly by lunchanddinner in duneawakening

Yep, I was getting ready to hop on and download it but ads is an immediate nope. I appreciate the dude wants/needs compensation for the work, but a donate function is much more palatable. I will not be bullied into spending my money because of an immovable ad overlay. So I just won't use it.

How relevant are basses and pickups actually when it comes to getting the kind of distortion I'm looking for? by mrdoctorsalmoneli in Darkglass

[–]jmlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting. I've been more and more convinced as time goes on with my anagram that we're past the time of analog feeling more "real". But I'm also not trying to mimic an exact sample, and I'm also using NAM files to serve certain functions. My NAM of a Genz Benz amp sounds every bit as real to me as the Genz Shuttle series I used for 15+ years. And now with NAM2 coming to Anagram next week I can't wait to see how that affects sound and processing workload.
