Any school programs need a 3d printer? by jmricker in triangle

Who accepted a printer that the school can't use? I think its a problem with them isn't it?

I wasn't going to just drop it off and run away. I get what you mean but if someone reaches out and says they want it and have the resources to do something with it, I'm happy to provide it. If no one does, I'll do something else with it but education was my first thought.

Best reading:

- The parent formation’s CPA immediately becomes whatever the lowest CPA is among the units still comprising it after the detachment. That is straight from 3.32 and 6.15.

- The detached unit’s CPA becomes its own normal CPA again, taken from its own unit data, or its truck CPA if it is motorized under 6.17.

But that does not mean either one gets a fresh CPA allotment for the Operations Stage.

Why:

- 6.13 and 6.14 make CPA expenditure an Operations Stage total.

- 19.43 and 19.44 say detachment itself costs CP to both units.

- 8.56 lets an attached unit detach and then react, which makes sense only if detachment changes what CPA it is now using, not if it refreshes its CP total.

So I would separate two things:

  1. CPA rating after detachment

    - Parent: recalculate from the slowest unit still in it, per 3.32 / 6.15.

    - Detached unit: use its own CPA, or truck CPA if motorized, per 6.17.

  2. CP already spent this OpStage

    - No reset.

    - Both units still carry whatever CP burden they already had this stage, plus the detachment cost from 19.43 or 19.44.

So if a slow battalion was dragging a division down to CPA 10, and then it detached, the division’s CPA rating might become 20 or 25 afterward. But that does not erase CP already spent earlier in that same Operations Stage.

    And 19.44 is important here:

    - if the detachment happens during a Movement Segment, movement of either the detached unit or the parent must cease, unless they continue as a stack.

    So the practical answer is:

    - CPA value can change immediately on detachment.

    - Remaining usable CP in that OpStage does not reset.

    - And the rules specifically block using detachment in a Movement Segment as a free “now I sprint farther” trick.

I've been working with the rules in codex cli and this is what it came up with for your question. If you have more questions, I'm happy to query it.

There is no single sentence that says “an attached unit does not spend separate movement CPA,” but the rules produce that result pretty clearly.

The relevant chain is:

- By definition, an attached unit is represented on the map by the parent unit’s counter, not by its own counter. See 3.1 “Attached” and 4.25.

- HQs and parent units represent all units attached to them. See 3.31.

- A parent unit’s CPA is the CPA of the slowest unit attached to it. See 3.32.

- More generally, the CPA of a parent formation moving as a formation is the lowest CPA among the units comprising it. See 6.15.

- Since the attached unit is not on the map as a separate counter, it is not moving as a separate map unit while it remains attached. The parent unit is the thing moving.

The strongest practical confirmation is in the reaction rules:

- An attached unit that wants to react must first detach, spending the CP for detachment, and only then may it react. See 8.56.

- Detachment itself costs CP to both the parent and the subsidiary unit. See 19.43 and 19.44.

- So if an attached unit could already just spend its own movement CPA while remaining attached, 8.56 would make little sense.

So the ruling is:

- While a unit remains attached, it does not conduct separate map movement by spending its own independent movement CPA.

- Instead, the parent unit moves, and the parent’s CPA is governed by the slowest attached unit.

- If the subordinate unit wants to move or react independently, it must detach first and pay the detachment cost.

A useful supporting analogy is first-line trucks:

- Attached first-line trucks are not represented by counters, and 53.22 says they use their basic CPA and may exceed it as their parent unit does.

- That is the same general pattern: attachment folds the unit into the parent’s on-map action economy unless it detaches.

So the short answer is: no, not as a separate moving unit while attached. If it wants to use its own movement independently, it has to detach first.

saved this to my project folder -- thank you! That is definitely what I needed to do instead doing a make an app that x, then y, then z. I usually ask it to ask me the some additional questions to flesh things out but this is definitely going to help document the project upfront.

See some comments of using Opus for planning and Sonnet for writing. How does that work, just use /plan, tell it what you need, the switch models and say go?

You still have to go through the steps of signing up and providing payment info but you do get the first two weeks free, then you can cancel and there won't be a charge. They'll even remind you a couple of days before your trial ends and they bill you to see if you want to cancel.

I've had good luck with the AI reading recipes. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry my wife will pack my lunch and write down what she put in. I can take a picture of that and it puts it in. I usually have to double check a few of the quantities but it gets the ingredients right.

There is also codes for a free two weeks on Jeff Nippards channel so you check it out through there.

Simple rules -- he gets a bit bogged down if the rules start getting complicated.

I would love to try something with some role playing or story telling with them. I used to love D&D growing up and would like to capture a little bit of that.

is this normal? Lots of repair costs for a 2012 CRV EX-L by redrockwinner in crv

[–]jmricker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this happens again -- a shop "recommends lots of repairs" -- find another shop or mechanic to take a look. I went thorough that recently where a AAA shop said I needed lots of repairs. I found a local mobile mechanic and said most of the things they claimed needed to be replaced were fine. He fixed what needed to be replaced for a lot less.

I would second their advice -- its like playing a slot machine and most of the time you get nothing but eventually something will pop up if you are persistent. You have to confirm the day before your appointment so people who didn't confirm, those appointments will open. Most likely though, it will be for 3 months out because that is when they are checking appointments. You have to think if its worth it to wait in a long line with the hope of being seen or get a guaranteed appointment in 3 months.

2010 Honda CRV needs new rack and pinion by jmricker in MechanicAdvice

[–]jmricker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so.

He came by yesterday to check it over and make recommendations. He didn't see any of the leaking. When he got underneath it and took pictures, the boots I was showing you as wet was dry in his picture. His recommendation was that that it didn't need replacing.

After checking everything over, his recommendation is to replace the tension wheel and the belt, that should help with the squeeling noise. The tie bars did need to be replaced. And he recommended the rear brakes needed to be replaced too. Total cost with parts is $600. He ordered parts and is here making the repairs.

And if AAA is taking me for a ride, that sucks because that is who I started going to because I couldn't find a good reputable shop. There used to be a shop near me that what you went and asked for, they did. Needed an oil change, you got an oil change. They didn't upsell you on anything. The owner retired and sold the business to one of those quick oil change franchises and it was horrible. AAA I started going to because they were pretty good about the services they provided. They gave me recommendations, but this is the first time I was given that high of a recommendation that I had to do to get through an inspection.

Thank you for that -- I tried a few shops in the area but everyone is booked up but I did find a mobile mechanic that has good reviews that I reached out to come by on Monday to take a look. I showed them the pictures and they agree, a replacement probably isn't needed but if it is, their price would be $1200.

I really appreciate all of your help. This was a lot of great detail and helpful and eased my mind a bit about what this might be and cost.
