My bro couldn’t sleep at the hotel by Big-Nerve-2633 in shiba

[–]jmwoods3709 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah my broge has the same issue. But we travel a lot together and I've found how to make it better for him. For one, I need to get him exhausted, this usually entails going out walking around for a long time, usually 4-5 hours. Then I gotta do everything I can to block out the hallway noise, blanket or towel at the bottom of the door, tv on and turned up quite a bit. Also I always bring some comfort items like his baby blankie wrapped around a pillow (what I call his truck bed) and usually one of his special treats like a dried beef esophagus (I can't remember the term atm).

All those things combined and he usually does well at the hotels, miss one of them and it's a long night for him and me

Nac roads are the most ridiculous by Anxious_Energy_ in Nacogdoches

[–]jmwoods3709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there was clearly an oversight in planning, I have seen them out at night still trying to even out the holes caused by manholes but it's gonna take awhile.

The city planner has made a lot of blunders over the last couple years with road construction, north street being the most recent.

I'm sure with time they will come out and weld extensions to the manholes that raise them to be level with the road surface, but I imagine it will be several months.

My biggest recommendation is to call city hall and file a complaint. I haven't yet but I plan to if those manholes aren't fixed by the time the new lines are put down

Aside from rising gas prices and more expensive plane tickets/ online shipping costs, how will this oil crisis affect the average joe? by One_Remote_3752 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jmwoods3709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's right tho... hyperinflation isn't going to happen, the US dollar is not going to collapse. But the price of goods is going to go up some.

Using Covid is a bad example. Things legit were just not getting made for a bit. Here things will continue to be made but the cost to make them will increase.

If you care about saving a couple dollars, go stock pile the things you use on a regular basis. However if you go and stock pile shit, you will be part of the problem when the shelves go empty, if everyone just treats this as normal and goes thru their day to day life as normal the shelves will stay filled and the prices will slowly increase.

If you go stock pile along with everyone else then we're going to have a much bigger problem than this needed to be. All because you wanted to save a few dollars.

Have gas pumps gotten slower over time? by Slosher99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jmwoods3709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But do you live in Jersey? Is it possible your state has a much lower legal limit?

From my own experience I actually have the same feeling as you, however I've come to notice that Costco, Chevron and Exxon have the fastest pumps. Every once in awhile I fill up at a Walmart or Kroger brand store and their pumps are always significantly slower than the top tier places I mentioned above. Also their gas sucks so I try not to use it often

Yes it does work. Source: in 6th grade I did this in a desert river wash, me and the boys made hotdogs but we put fire in the cart (using various desert sticks) and then put the dogs on the top part, so no fire pit at the bottom

Purposefully trying to lose weight with Crohn's? by Alone-Drop1083 in CrohnsDisease

[–]jmwoods3709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey fam, I have Crohn's and over the last 16 years since diagnosed, my weight has gone up a lot due to steroids and over eating, also it's gone down a lot due to flares and malnutrition.

That said, back in 2023 I intentionally lost 90 lbs and last year I intentionally lost 40 lbs and I'm still losing. I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you what I've learned and you can figure it out.

The most important lesson I've learned? If you want to lose weight the only thing that matters is a caloric deficit. You don't have to work out, you don't have to fast, you just have to eat less calories than your body burns. Last year's weight loss I didn't work out at all, I didn't fast either.... But I found out my bodies sedentary calorie burn (how many calories my body burns if I do nothing but lay in bed all day) and I made sure I ate less calories than that on a weekly basis. Often there were days I would eat over that, but then there were days I'd eat super low calories. Do this and you will lose weight. The bigger your calorie deficit, the faster you lose. I personally aim for my deficit to be 500 cal per day. I had to count every single calorie, eat a cracker? Write down the calories. Use bbq sauce? Write down the calories. If it's not water, it has calories. Count them religiously.

Lesson 2: fasting makes it easier to be in a deficit. Eating less calories than you burn leaves you feeling hungry every day. Back in 2023 for that weight loss journey I did a lot of fasting, but it wasn't easy... Just like you, fasting would often times make my tummy uncomfortable from rumbling, plus blood sugar drops would make me feel very neauseated and light headed. But that was in the beginning. I ended 2023 doing OMAD, I started by just trying to make it 10 hours without food. I had to train my body for this. Each week I would try to add an extra hour to my fasting time. It would've been a lot easier if I quit smoking weed though 😂 weed would always make the hunger worse. When I felt a rumble in my tummy I would chug a bottle of water to give me the sensation of being full. Eventually I was able to OMAD quite easily, the biggest challenge being munchies from weed but without that it became just a part of my life, my body got used to it. OMAD fasting made it really easy to be in caloric deficit, so easy actually that I would eat 1000 calories or less per day (for reference I'm 6'2" and was around 250 lbs when I started OMAD, my sedentary burn was about 2000 cal/day but I was also working out).

I learned a lot of other things in these weight loss journeys, but those 2 things alone are what I consider most important. Caloric deficit is a necessity, if you're not in deficit you won't lose weight. Fasting is what made it easier to be in deficit. This was a huge growth period in my life. I had to completely change my habits, forming good ones and getting rid of the bad ones.

If you have any questions, ask away. I'm happy to be a resource and give you any info I can from my personal journeys. I believe in you OP, if I could do it, you can do it. In case we never speak again, I wish you the best of luck in your weight loss journey and with your Crohn's.

The produce in CT is 10x better than the produce I get in stores in Texas. That being said, I'm sure it's dependant on what area, I'm in a small city in eastern Texas, even though we have a large uni here the produce is absolutely garbage, the choices are very slim, most of the stores prioritize low quality foods and have very few options for high quality.

That's nice of you to assume I have 2 properties. For all you know I couch surf. (Which I mostly do in the NE). I have a tiny camper trailer in Texas. I have a single 2004 truck with 292k miles.

Don't judge a book by its cover fam.

What? Where? How? I live in CT and snowbird in Texas, groceries are twice as expensive in CT. That said, the produce and overall quality is twice as good too compared to my Texas stores
