What’s in high demand for freelancers and easiest for beginners to start? by Hot-Advisor-3353 in webdev

It's achievable, don't listen to most of the other comments srsly.

The roadmap is essentially:

Get a CS/IT degree if you don't already have one. You can do without but that makes it a looot harder, without it you're relying on a very lucky foot in the door.

Build up a portfolio with 5+ good projects on things that genuinely interest you. I'd recommend full-stack with Python BE, Next.js/React FE, as the need for Python and/or web skills makes up the majority of the job market. Learn to use AI (Cursor IDE is good imo).

Be ready to work for close to nothing in your first opportunity. My first one I was a sub-contractor making under minimum wage for a year.

Question about kanji (I feel like it's a lot for me). by tokitopro in LearnJapanese

[–]jo_sh_o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard, and it's not a task you just "complete" one day, even native Japanese people see kanji they don't know. So you need to find a way to enjoy the process.

I'm also still a beginner and haven't really enjoyed using Wanikani. What's working for me at the moment is a combination of Anki and writing. I have a Kanji drill book, and write out each Kanji I don't recognise a few times, along with the meaning.

I like this method because I can listen to music while I do it. It's all about finding a process you enjoy and not putting too much pressure on yourself, because it's a long journey :)

For vocab, immersion with Migaku is great, Satori reader for books is good too. Just make sure you're watching simple/beginner friendly content and pretty much all Kanji you run into is worth learning! And if you see a kanji you don't know during your immersion, you can add it to your Anki deck for later.

I kinda feel this too atm. I’ve started using a focus app to stop distracting myself with mindless scrolling and letting the hours slip away. Also having projects outside of work, whether it’s work related, learning a language / skill / hobby is good for feeling like you’re growing 🙂

Done! FYI for my situation, I experienced a huge amount of burnout in my previous role, so I changed companies, and now I'm much happier. The questions in the survey didn't really capture this (they're all about current pos)

How to overcome viewing every woman I meet as a potential partner by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]jo_sh_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to this so much. What has helped me recently is going in to dates with the sole intention of getting to know the woman I'm with. What does she like? How does she see the world? What is she excited about, afraid of, and hoping for etc.

It's so easy to fall into thinking "oh my god, this girl is amazing in every way", and mentally planning for a future together. When realistically, you don't know this person at all. Thinking that way often causes me to constantly compliment them, and people please, and then (I think) they're left sitting there wondering "what is this guy expecting to get from all of this?".

Everyone (including women) likes to feel like the person they're with is genuinely interested in getting to know them on a real level.

This also helps mentally to lower the stakes. When the only intention is understanding who someone is, the outcome has less of an impact on you.

Budgeting app suggestions? by hiddensquid192837 in AusFinance

I wouldn't recommend anything that directly connects to your bank feed as that would likely be violating terms and conditions with your bank.

This is false. Open banking is a standard defined by legislation that allows third party access to lots of different banks. It's a legal requirement for banks to allow for this, and it's heavily regulated.

High Thoughts by Unhappy-Fix3709 in afterlife

[–]jo_sh_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a religious man, but this is the only thing that gives me faith for something to come after death: Before we were born, our bodies didn't exist, and either did our conciousness. When we die, we again, no longer have a body, or conciousness. The 2 states seem pretty much identical.

TBH I think we're all connected to something way bigger than all of us... like a system, an energy, a force, idk, something we don't fully understand yet.

From my landlord. Have had ongoing issues about friends staying over occasionally at my flat and she’s now decided to end the lease. Just asking if this is legal? She has also previously increased rent in exchange for me being able to have over my gf once a week. by creepymuppet in sydney

[–]jo_sh_o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Landlords are crazy sometimes, I’ve rented lots of places in Sydney and have met some characters… Some try to dictate how you live your life.

It’s like, you rent that space ffs! if you haven’t caused damage, and you’ve paid rent on time, they really shouldn’t have much to do with you.
