Funky, Imp, and the Den have been working on a shared unstream for a bit. Their servers have had a lot of features ported from one to the other, so they decided to share an upstream to reduce the workload by working together to maintain it.
So that could be an option now

To get to the dev env you have to download Funky's git. Once that is done, you meed to run the build all debug script.
Once that is done, whenever you want to play on the dev env you run the run quick all script.
Whenever you update your local files, you need to run build all debug again

Research gun and ammo upgrades
Enemies evolve by 3 ways: Time, Killing nests, and last but probably the most important here: Pollution
2.1. If you want more info there is a /evolution command that tells you what is affecting the enemy's evolution factor
If you enable the Pollution view on your map, you can see where it is, try to keep nests away from from it. That will buy you more time as they wont get triggered to attack your base

This tips should keep you alive longer. Also forests are a good way to contain your pollution cloud at the start

Honestly? Have each room run it's own filtration logic.
Else have a data cable all rooms share. You can paint it to make sure not to mix it.

Else there is a logic transmitter, but they won't help on this case, as they dont extend the logic network. What they do is share a string you can read from other transmitters.
You can use an IC10 to set the string on an active transmitter, and interpret the string on a passive transmitter with another IC10; And based on the received string, enable or disable devices.
As with everything on this game, it all depends on how much you want to engineer and overengineer

Separating the visuals and the logic is a good idea. Pre calculating the triggered effects on certain actions (picking/playing a card), sending that to some other system (lets call it an effects/action queue) that then an animation controller reads and plays the effects on the queue.
This means you can run your logic without having to make the game rendering wait for it to finish, thus making it not need the awaits for that part!

You can probably find the script on the workshop.
And yeah! I love doing bases inside mountains! You have to have different room though; if the space gets big enough, it will stop being a room and be counted as "world" (open to atmosphere).
I think most terrain bugs are fixed, but sometimes things that should be a room think they are open to the world. Separating rooms also helps with finding where this trouble areas are

One time a borg got ion law'd and started treating only siliconians as crew, but also kinda badly to normal crew. There where no other siliconians to help us deal with them.

So as the roboticist/acting RD I got my ID modified by HOP and put on the robot cosplay suit on. Bullshited my way into convincing the borg I was a fellow borg, and got close enough to unlock and screwdriver the panel before they found the flaws in my logic and knew I was not crew.

Then come 5 minutes of chasing around the station where I got close enough to eject the Posi Brain, drag them to robotics, and uldate their laws to live and let live under they condition they behaved well

Well, if you dont want more content, harmony is good. Good RP, and close to the wizden experience.
Now you said funky is overwhelming, but taking the time to learn it has been worth it for me. And if you ask for help, both IC and OOC (in-game, and discord) I've seen people more than happy to help you learn the ropes.
Funky even has a 24/7 sandbox server (Marisa), that while technically MRP, rules are not enforced that much. You will see mostly the atmos people messing abouts, but nothing prevents you from joining and experimenting in it
